Wicked Weed Green Man Asheville Brewing Burial Brewing Highland Brewing was actually really cool Wedge Brewing is an awesome out door spot My favorite was One World. Had a great time playing games and meeting locals and listening to an acoustic set there. Really cool people. Wife and I went to Salsa right there on Patton and One World is in like a basement right behind it.
First time at sushi/pho/Chinese/craft beer joint. Think the 15 was a touch better, but really splitting hairs.
Going to Chicago for (coincidentally) the first weekend of Chicago Craft Beer Week in May. What are the must see places. Have noted so far beer bars Hop Leaf and Map Room and breweries Half Acre, Pipeworks and Revolution.
Not sure if you noticed the canned date on the NoDa beers but they've had a problem with older beers for quite a while. I'm drinking one tonight that was canned on 3/1 and it doesn't taste as good as the first one I had that was canned 3/17. It seems like they have a 3-4 week window and then they fall off quickly. All the Hop Cakes was canned 5-6 weeks ago so it's probably not as great. I had my last one this weekend it was just OK. I had heard they were going to fix that once they got the new location and canning line going but it's clearly still an issue. We actually ran into Chad, NoDa's head brewer, at CCB when we were down for Huna Day and I wanted to ask him about it, but I wimped out. And yes, Birdsong's Jalapeno is fantastic.
Had the Waterfront Brewing Co. IPA last night while grilling out some steaks and maybe it was the entire situation but I thought it was a fantastic beer. Not too hoppy of an IPA and even had some tendencies/taste of a wheat background in it (which I am a big fan of).
How was this? Literally just got released this week and I'm happy Alabama breweries are easing into the sour game.
It's good. They've had it for 2 years as a seasonal but only on draft. Really happy they're canning it now
duc15 Buoy's IPA has become a regular part of my rotation...so good Any word on the '16 Ft. George Threeway IPA?
Looks like Jolly Pumpkin & Tired Hands are collaborating. So that's awesome. Ron Jeffries @OfficialRonJ 46m46 minutes ago Jean @tiredhandsbeer discovers we sell Bam Biere by the pitcher @null_taphouse @jollypumpkin
7th sun is nearby and awesome, so that should definitely be an easy trip. Cigar City and Coppertail are close to each other, so that should definitely be a trip to make. Coppertail's taproom is ridiculous and the beers are getting better. Cyle, Cage Brewing and Green Bench are also close to each other and all make good beer (have not been to cage, but heard good things).
With spring games coming up: What do you guys drink for easy drinking tailgating situations? I tend towards some nice hefeweizens. Stuff like König Ludwig is my go to in those situations.
just bumped into the guy who owns the fill station I frequent...he says a rumor for this year's 3 way is Ft.George-Barley Browns-Melvin Brewing
Big fan of that beer. Wife got me into saisons/farmhouse ales and that's a good one. Can find it around here for 7.99/4 pack; well worth it
This OG appreciates the help. I will try to hit up everything that was listed. Thanks gents. Beer tax:
The suggestions from the previous thread are great ones. It really depends on what area you will be in. If you end up in the Wrigleyville area, specifically on Clark Street, which is a major party area and can be quite the sloppy mess that I would recommend avoiding - there is salvation at Sheffield's which has a great tap list at all times. I would also recommend checking out Local Option. If you make it to Half Acre (you absolutely should), Bad Apple is across the street and would be worth checking out their tap list as well. Side note on Map Room - I used to live one block from there. While it's a great beer bar and they certainly know their stuff, the tap list seems to focus on a lot of beers from around the world (hence the name Map Room) and doesn't seem to take advantage of the great Chicago and Midwest selection they could be offering.
Awesome, thanks. We're hitting up the Cubs game Saturday, but that will probably be my only venture to Wrigleyville. Got a pretty sweet airbnb in Old Town, plan on spending most of my time in there, Lincoln Park, and River North/Mag Mile/Loop area
Hopleaf is my favorite beer bar in Chicago but it also pretty far out of the way. Great belgians, Zombie dust, etc. GF's family lives up by Fox Lake, I normally try and stop at hopleaf on our way down in to the city. Maproom was also a cool a bar and I think is easier to get to. I also really like the architecture boat tour and I would make it a point to do it.
I'm not as familiar with the Old Town bars but Old Town Pour House is a good option from what I remember. When downtown, would be worth checking out Haymarket. If you are looking for great food (albeit a little pricey) - The Girl and the Goat is a half block from Haymarket. They are probably booked up for reservations for two weeks in advance, but if you go right when they open at 4:30 I think, you will get a table.
The boat tour also has Revolution Anti-Hero on tap on board. By no means difficult to come by in Chicago but a nice choice somewhere you wouldn't expect great selection.
Best Portland breweries? Gonna be there for 4 days but no way I'll be able to hit all 65 or whatever the fuck it is they have. Staying near Cascade so that's a given.
Near you there's a few if wanting walking distance. Base Camp, whose owner just tried to kill a homeless person with a sword and has pretty poor beer is right there. Only one I've been to so can't speak for the others. Cascade is legit tho, pretty expensive but worth it. Up on Mississippi is Ecliptic (great beer + food) and Stormbreaker. Both worth going to if wanting to wander Miss Ave area. Downtown Deschutes is a great lunch stop, probably had their beer before but for a huge company they do good work. Great food. Heard good things about 10 barrels location down there but haven't been. Bailey's Taproom is a good beer bar. Would be my #1 over everything I mentioned, their tap room is one of my favorite places to eat/drink, but it's 1.5hrs from Portland.
Ones I enjoy visiting: Upright (favorite) and The Commons, because I'm a farmhouse beer slut Hearing good things about Great Notions but haven't tried yet, think Hazy IPAs and Maple Stouts
10 Barrel has a sick upstairs deck and fantastic ice cold brewksis but is absolutely packed 24-7. Would recommend Breakside and Ex Novo, both in NE. Also Migration is another brewery with nice outdoor seating.
Thanks, guys. Staying in SE Portland (21st Ave, close to Division it looks like). Hopworks Urban Brewery looks to be pretty close. That worth checking out?
Not a brewery but make sure to go to Belmont Station. Great bottle / Growler / Drink at the bar stop.
Hair of the Dog isn't far from Cascade and is worth going to. There's also a beer bar called Green Dragon or something like that, that is pretty cool
