Yeah, the audio clip that leaked was pretty bad. The translator from Neogaf had it right. No real clues as to who it was. Shit ending to what I thought was a fantastic episode. Was like a 9.7/10 for 63 minutes and 50 seconds then dropped to somewhere between 0 and 1 for that final 10 seconds or so.
Also, the leaked audio had a lot louder screaming. Seemed to me you could hear the women screaming very prominently. I thought the screams on the leak were pretty chilling. Should have left them in there. Would not shock me if it was Abraham with the way he bowed up to Negan and the way his storylines with Rosita, Sasha, and Eugene are going. He obviously escaped his comic book death earlier.
Thinking Eugene. Or Abraham. Eugene coming full circle, being a "survivor" kind of puts the end chapter to his character. And Abraham telling Sasha he would be good with having kids in this world. Foreshadow jinxing. But yeah....cliffhanger not necessary at all.
Based off that little snippet, seems pretty word for word reenactment minus all the F bombs. Said "shit" multiple times though
So if they start off next season with showing the person getting their head bashed in, it won't have any impact?
I don't get the hate for that episode except for not showing who got bashed. Oooooh, I hate commercials. Great analysis
http://www.avclub.com/tvclub/walking-dead-season-finale-swings-misses-234745 The Walking Dead season finale swings, misses Oh, I’m sorry, the 90 minutes. Because sure, this is definitely a story that needed extra time to tell. A better edited hour might have made it harder to notice how absurd this all was, or make you wonder how in the fuck the Saviors knew when to pull out the stops on their magic roadblocking plan (I’m sure they have scouts, but that’s a lot of work to pull off in a very short space of time), or how the Saviors have gone from being a jittery, sluggish bunch of incompetents to genius psychic ninjas practically overnight. As it was, there are minutes upon minutes of emptiness to contemplate the foolishness of all of this. I wonder who got killed. Carl? (It’s not Carl.) Rick? (Ibid.) Someone else? (Yes.) Maybe the writers will have an ad campaign where we can vote on it.
Yeah, like I said, it was as close to a 10 as TWD will probably ever get until the ending. But that really messed it up. And I am fairly certain that the cherry on top of this shit sundae will be when it's revealed that it was an ancillary character who got pounded to a nice mush. As for Swim Cantore's post, the way I took the sudden competence of the Saviors was that they have a lot of people. That was obvious. Rick's group was an unknown entity that may have been underestimated at first so the Saviors' A teams weren't deployed. Until now. Like Negan said in his speech, a lot was invested in this day to ensure that they were all well aware of who he was an what he's actually capable of. The end result should have been us wondering how Rick and the remaining members of the group were going to recover and deal with this massive new threat and new way of life that they will most definitely have to embrace for at least a little bit until they get their shit together. Instead it was reduced to a hashtag moment wondering who the victim was. I'm actually surprised at how many of the show's most adamant defenders over on TWD's subreddit turned. When I read that it was a cliffhanger over a week ago I wasn't pleased but I figured the general audience would just deal with it and there would be a vocal minority that was very upset. Mostly comprised of comic readers. But even the general audience seems pretty unhappy with it and while I'm glad that's the reaction to a cheap gimmick ending to one of the most important scenes in the entire comic it sucks because there's no fixing it. Even if they do kill the person who was killed in the comic it's just not going to have the same effect as it would have it was ended properly last night.
Also, in the spirit of full troll mode, I would actually get a hearty chuckle if the writers just conveniently inserted another no-name Alexandria resident as the one who got brained, as they've done in the past numerous times.
"You... are... it. Wait a minute, we've got a surprise guest. BRING HIM OUT, BOYS!" Someone we've never seen comes out of the RV. "Yeah, that's right. We got Clark. We know how important Clark is to y'all. And now we're making an example." Much in the spirit of Gene Wilder saying "Stop, don't, come back" in Willy Wonka, Rick's group "pleads" for Clark's life. "No, please don't." Glenn yawns. "Yeah, what he said." Negan bashes Clark's head in. Sasha pretends to faint. We see her open an eye to quickly check and make sure people saw it. Negan and his group leave. End series.
Not for me I'll be watching Sunday Night Football. I actually like the guy playing Negan and his scene was awesome but they should have gave us that holy shit moment kinda like the red wedding. Ive put years into wanting to like this show if we would have gotten that oh shit scene it would have been worth it.
I don't know. I guess I could see being all upset if they don't show it next season or as others said if it's some random ancillary or lesser character. Otherwise, they just didn't reveal who died when you want them to reveal it. Big friggin deal. I thought it was pretty impactful, and while I do feel there were issues with the episode, I also thought it was pretty damn good.
I will say that after watching the YouTube video of the comic, the ending of the episode definitely should have been done differently. Still enjoyed the episode though. Especially the last scene before the shitty cliffhanger.
Is there a channel that does comic and show comparisons without future spoilers? I mean, I know who gets the bat in the comics. But not much more after that.
Probably waiting on Internet people to decide who to bash in on episode 1. Figure they will film flashback scenes to keep everyone on set for a few weeks
They are getting way too cute with their cliffhangers....ever since that bullshit with Glenn. It's just shitty, lazy writing.
Or just trying to stretch out a cash cow as long as they can. Done right.... They would easily be coming to the end of their source material.
No way. TWD is the most watched show on cable by far (which makes you wonder why the fuck they felt they needed to do the cheap cliffhanger) and last night's episode correlates with the 100th issue of the comic. They just broke the 150 mark on issues recently and there's no real end game for it. The Saviors main arc could easily take up another season and a half on its own.
I am glad I haven't read all the comics. Seems like those of you who have are pretty fucking miserable. Thought the episode was good I enjoyed it. And in case you guys haven't noticed they've a cliff hanger in just about every season why would this one be any different?
people keep saying this but i don't know of any series that put a 6 month break in the middle of the most important scene of the show/source material and it was considered to be a positive thing
Didn't say it was a positive. Just not a shock that they did it. It certainly isn't their "who shot JR" moment like some ITT were saying.
What they did was the equivalent of the showrunners on GoT making the Red Wedding a "cliffhanger". Some scenes are truly more powerful when displayed in their entirety versus trying to inject some cheap suspense at the expense of the moment at hand. I would challenge you to read the youtube link I provided last page and then make an argument for the way they handled it last night.
It absolutely is their moment or attempt at that moment. They took the most notorious scene in the series' history and turned it into a cliffhanger in a way that the comics never did, and they undermined the effectiveness of the moment in doing so. They took the short money over the long money, and it sucks.
If you can find were I said it was handled correctly then I will read what you posted again. All I said is that it shouldn't have been a shock to anyone because that's what they've done almost every year. But, I will say that if I didn't know what I knew before hand I wouldn't have had an issue with how they filmed the scene.
Except it is a shock when they disregard the impact of maybe the biggest scene ever in the comics. None of the other seasons ended with their interpretation of such an important scene within the canon.
Yes they mishandled it but you only know that because you've read the comics. If you didn't you probably wouldn't have an issue. That's why I said I am glad I haven't read all the comics.
It's not just comic readers who are upset though. The most adamant defenders of this show, even when it was absolutely awful, reside on the show's subreddit. And I haven't seen more than a handful of people over there who are really even contemplating being okay with the ending. And there are over 250k subscribers on that sub. I'm honestly surprised at how universal it is. There isn't a single other Walking Dead episode on IMDB with a rating below 7.0. Last night's is sitting at 5.8 as of now.
a cliffhanger isnt surprising - if they showed negan kill somebody, then had the saviors leave with the group sitting there in shock that would be a quality cliffhanger the way they decided to do it is absolutely a surprise. what a weird thing to defend.
How The Walking Dead's showrunner/writers would have handled other TV series' big moments... Obviously if you haven't watched shows like GoT, Breaking Bad, Dexter, etc. you won't realize the comparisons but they were pretty spot on. It's still hard to wrap my head around the fact that they did what they did last night.
I laid off this season because I was tired of being annoyed and was tired of habitually asking myself, why am I watching this crap. I was curious to see what the TMB thought about this season so I did some scanning. It seems like more of the same ole shit. My advice for those who are on the fence, drop the show. You will appreciate the time back in your schedule to watch something else.
It's possible the scene isn't as big of a deal as in the comics, depending on who the decided to kill. Regardless, it's still cheap.
Personally I don't have an issue with it, providing next season kicks off with showing that scene from another perspective. You still get the scene, and then it serves to really jumpstart the season. The showrunners basically described it as "everybody getting captured and meeting Negan is the end of that seasons story. Who died and how the group deals with that and the new order of things is next seasons story."
From someone. I'm waiting to see if other crew members give random names just to leave everyone guessing
