Apparently it becomes more obvious later but I can see it through book two. They're obviously way too close. The main thing through book 2 that I've read is where stannis says renly's new bride will like stay a virgin in renlys bed
just read that part. Stannis straight up called him a fag pretty much. and then later in that POV Renly sent everyone away so he could sleep and told Loras to stay back and help him "pray". I had the benefit of seeing the scene in the show first, but it's pretty obvious once you realize it.
in one of the books a certain character tells Renly he'll shove his sword somewhere in a place that Renly never found. I'm not being specific in case someone gets pissed
They also talk about how Spoiler pissed Loras becomes after Renly is killed, and Loras gets all cold to Sansa when she talks about Renly. Somewhat subtle, but after previous mentions it only strengthens the point.
There's a mention of Loras in a later book where someone refers to him as "Renly's flower" when he's brought up in conversation.
well fuck. i guess i missed all of this. i think i missed a whole lot because i started reading them after the 3rd episode of the show and read each book in like 4 days, took a week off, then repeated the process. dumb of me.
I just finished re-reading the books. I totally whiffed on it the first time through. It's a good deal more subtle in the books than the show, where dicks are actually sucked, but it's there.
Since I watched the show before I started reading book 1 I did notice that Littlefinger was making fun of how nicely Renly dressed and how much he cared about his clothing in a the scene right when Ned gets to King's Landing.
