Not seeing any real back work outside of deadlifts and facepulls. Throw some rows on deadlift day and bench day imo.
I always feel like im not doing bb rows right. I don't really feel it too much in my back tbh. Not using too much weight. I've watched a couple youtube videos on form to no avail
Imagine pushing your elbows up as high as possible. Same with a pulldown, imagine trying to touch your hips with your elbows.
When I first started working out in the mornings, I was taking Melatonin every night. That worked like a champ and eventually I built up the habit of sleep early (by 10pm) and up early (by 5am) and don't need it anymore.
Bros with quads and glutes. I need some recommendations for boxer briefs that don't bunch and ride up. Annoying as shit when I'm at work and I have to try to sneak in a tug around my junk to get things straightened out
I didn't get on the exofficio train back when it seemed like the whole board did but I have recently joined it and it is glorious. Love the boxers for every day wear and the boxer briefs are great for working out/physical activities
I got on board back then and they are terrible. Only positive is their anti bacterial material and can rinse them out in long trips to save space.
Try pendlay rows from the floor. I like em better than from a hang. When I get heavy my form goes to shit and don't contract my back/shoulders well.
Lululemon. They're expensive but my girlfriend got me a pair and they're the best thing I've ever worn. I went back and bought an entire weeks worth of them afterwards.
I have these and love them. http://m.eastbay.com/?uri=product&sku=6899102&model=179281&cm=GLOBAL SEARCH: KEYWORD SEARCH
I haven't been able to wear boxers in over a decade. Boxer briefs ride up, too. When I train or compete, I wear regular briefs. When I'm not training or competing, I'm going commando. I should mention that my thighs are 29" while my waist is 33". I have to buy jeans in a 38 waist just to fit my thighs in them. Nothing short of custom tailored skivvies or jeans will ever fit me properly.
I no gymnast or anything, but my mobility/R.O.M. is better than most of the guys on my rugby team and far better than most of the strongmen I compete against. My speed isn't bad, either. In sprint training, I got into the "cheetah club" when I maintained 20 mph for 10 seconds. That was a few years ago, though. The guys on my team give me shit because I still wear the old school rugby shorts that are about the same length as a pair of Daisy Dukes, but any other pair of shorts chafes like you wouldn't believe.
Speaking of jeans, I'm no lhprop1 but does anyone have any recommendations for some jeans that fit bigger quads but taper from the knee to the ankle?
Im thinking about getting a pull up bar at home to build up as right now i can only do a handful at a time at bw. Would it really harm that much if i did them in addition to lifting? I'd try to do some every day except when i do a back workout
so with all the crazy that's been going on i went another week only lift 3x. this week i missed mon, tues, tonight i took 2 caffeine pills and skwat 375 for 2 and benched 285 for 3. im all out of sorts. i have no set work schedule. my sleep cycle is toast. and ive been eating whatever i want. this was supposed to be my last week on GZCL UHF. im not sure if i can DL tomorrow but ill try to pull a max. Havent done so in a long arse time.
www.bestbelts.net make some very high quality belts in addition to the ones above. Single prong closure though so just depends on what you want
I don't really have a personal preference. I'm getting to where on DL and Squats that I feel irresponsible lifting that much without a belt.
Same. I don't DL a ton of weight (325x6x4), but I feel like I'm getting to the point where I worry about screwing up my back.
I do basically all of my lifting without a belt; the only time I put one on are max attempts or very close to max reps. I personally think you can get too dependent on a belt and know a guy that belts up even in his light working sets and actually won't deadlift at all without it that I think fits this category. In my uneducated opinion I think it's good to work without it regularly so that you can get used to proper breathing/technique without relying on the belt, and then adding it in at a later point
I have no idea what my max is for any of my lifts. I should probably get around to figuring that out at some point.
have a lower back disease that's given me lumbar pain since middle school and used to be like the guy TJOSU is talking about. Started doing hyper extensions this year and have gotten to where I don't have any pain at all down there when doing DL/Squat without a belt. Only use it when doing heavy now
Properly using your belt actually increases your strength without a belt. A belt allows you to increase intra abdominal pressure through use of something called the Valsava maneuver. In doing so, you improve the all around strength of your midsection and can achieve maximal core strength and stability. Belt up, lads.
correct me if I'm wrong here but this maneuver sounds like something people need to know how to do? if people are using the belt as a crutch, as seems more likely since I doubt most bros have heard of a Valsava maneuver, it seems unlikely to help them achieve maximal core strength
I used fancy words to describe a simple act to make myself seem smart. It's as simple as taking a deep breath in and pushing your diaphragm/gut into your belt. Most people already do it without knowing they're doing it. It's the same method used to pop your ears when you're on a plane. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valsalva_maneuver
This is assuming you're using a belt correctly though since most people don't wear their belt tight enough, right?
I can't say I've ever taken a survey of how people wear their lifting belts, so I don't really know. I just assumed that common sense would lead one to wear it tighter than the belt on your jeans, but not so tight that your eyes pop out.
90% of people I see wearing belts wear them their entire workout regardless of whether their doing curls or calf raises in commercial gyms.
Right, that part makes sense. It seems counter intuitive to me though that wearing a belt all the time would create strength, as opposed to learning to breathe properly and create that pressure without the belt. Disclaimer: anyone reading for belt advice, I'd trust lhprop over me, I'm just stubborn
He had them on there, but didn't have much bar for them to grip and when the bar started whipping they popped off
I've heard the athletic cut of Levis is one we bigger legged fellas should look into that still has a taper. the 541 I think? I haven't looked into them myself but am in the exact same ballpark. I need thigh space but I don't want my pantlegs drooping over my shoes.
I think I'm just going to go the Svend Karlsen route. He was making yoga pants look good long before the sluts of today were doing it.
