I know this won't go over well in this thread, but I've never been able to do conventional squats for whatever reason. I feel like hip flexibility is the main issue, so that's probably something I should work on. I went with front squats at just 135 for the 3×6 and leg press more aimed towards hamstrings/glutes for the 3x8-12. I know this is unacceptable, and I'm prepared to take my lashes.
I've recently started doing this every morning. I'm busy, so it works well with time constraints. Haven't been doing it long enough to notice a difference yet though. http://roglawfitness.com/the-minimalist-guide-to-mobility/
First, buy a foam roller and a lacrosse ball. Use them regularly on your hamstrings, quads, and hips. Follow these tips on warming up/stretching in general. Stretch daily multiple times a day. If you sit at a desk for most of the day like me, stand up and stretch your hip flexors every couple of hours. Your hips are probably super tight and short. Lay face down with a lacrosse ball between the floor and the front of your hip and roll around both sides. Do these for a couple minutes at a time (hip flexors, lacrosse ball, etc...). You can also "third world squat" throughout the day. You should start to see a noticeable difference quickly if you follow this stuff. also work on ankle flexibility.
Hip flexor has been tormenting me for weeks now and I always stretch and warm-up. I'll try some of these. Any recommendations for an intense experienced workout regimen (6-9 weeks). I have all summer to make gains.
I'm shooting for PR of 275 lbs on squats (3x6) and 305 on deads (2x6) tomorrow. I'mma hopefully fuck shit up.
Bodybuilding mostly. I've been working the same exercises for a while now. I can find something suitable on my own, just curious if anyone has a good program in mind.
Check out my friend's Instagram page - peopleoflafitness - it's pretty hilarious. This douche is happening right now.
Welp, guys. I need to put that one behind me. Nothing seemed to really go right this morning. Firstly, I didn't get the best sleep last night. I need to get more sleep in general. Secondly, I got to the gym and it was probably 85 degrees. By the time I got done with my warm-up, I was hot and sweaty. From there, I never felt comfortable or confident under the bar. Last week 270 lbs went up nicely on squats. This week 275 lbs took me for a fucking ride. I think I psyched myself up too much going into the workout and then felt deflated with the above issues. By the 4th rep of each 6-rep set, I was grinding a lot more than I thought I would need to. The 6th rep of my 3rd set was a 3-second grinder. I DID get all reps though, so I can't complain too much. Deadlifts are another story. Squats took me for everything I had. I felt very weak going into deads. I did my warm-ups all the way to a single at 275 before getting into my working sets of 300. First set of 6 I got 5 (fail) and none of it felt good. Legs weren't as involved as I would have liked and low back felt tight. Decided to do a back-off set at 275 lbs just so not to completely throw the workout out the window. I got 2 fucking reps. TWO! The second rep felt awful, so I said fuck it and decided I didn't want to risk injury. I think this is a definite sign that I need to take a deload, as I've been going hard for probably 16 weeks with only a half-week deload about 10 weeks ago. I'm on vacation starting Thursday and I've decided I'm not going to lift a weight until next Thursday, which will still be a light day. I'll hop back on the strength June 1.
I went to the gym one time and a storm had come through and done something to knock the power out. There are windows so it wasn't dark but fuck it got hot in there. Was an awful lifting experience. /first world lifting problems
Interestingly enough, we had a major storm last night. Hmmmmm. Did mother nature have a hand in wrecking my lifts?
Saw a guy with one of those masks at LA a month or so ago. First thing he does? Calf raises. Second thing? Calf raises. Third thing? Machine bench. Clearly his workouts sans mask just weren't intense enough.
This is me. Almost completely skipped yesterday. I can't get my damn head screwed on right, lately. That volume
I haven't looked it over yet but hopefully it's pretty solid. I've been so lazy about mobility and things. Motivation has been jack shit for a while now so lifting has been a struggle, by itself. Eating, mobility and recovery have all been poor. Thanks for the share
Unless you plan on competing in anything, front squats are more than a good replacement. If you can do them pain free, that's your lift. Back squats aren't really a good hamstring developer anyway so it's not like you're missing that.
Elevation mask, cuts your ability to breathe so theoretically your body will attempt to compensate thereby making you even more efficient during normal conditions. I don't see how they help when doing something other than an aerobic workout, which he may be about to do since he has a pair of nanos on.
There's a black guy at my gym who looks like he should play MLB for ths Steelers that wears one, so it obvi works.
I don't know, I think that is all his shit under the weight bench there..looks to me like bro is about to bench with the bane mask on.
Nah, dude has borderline cankles. He's never squatted to form more than 3 plates. Nothing wrong with that, typical bro though. Bet he can curl and dumbbell bench/fly with the best of them though.
I meant to start a tangent asking how much you guys sweat? I am usually good and lathered up by the time I'm done with warmup squats so I'm always drenched after an hour and a half. Therefore I usually smell like a used bag of assholes. Cliffs: sorry for that smell Vader.
I'm dripping sweat ATM. I guess I just don't understand how people instantly start smelling like shit
Oh it isn't instant for me, I think they came to the gym with some funk already built up if it's going on that fast.
I'm not talking about somebody having to get up close to you to smell you. Shit like people can't be in a 15 foot radius of you. Why do you small like that? You have a gland disorder or something?
I don't really sweat much at all unless I'm doing intense cardio. I usually only wear one set of gym clothes for the week, so I do probably stink by Friday.
