I tweaked my right knee yesterday at the gym. I thought I was just tight when I was warming up so I went ahead and did squats and my whole workout. It didn't really hurt, just kinda felt like I had the old man aches, so I just powered through. I never had any real pain with it, but it feels like I slightly twisted it or something today. I've taken an extended break from deadlifting due to pain in my lower back. It was pretty bad a couple months ago and it's gotten a lot better, but I'm still taking a break from them so I don't make it worse. My right shoulder hurts every once in a while on some stuff and it will "give out". I have tendinitis in my left elbow. I'm fucking falling apart.
Speaking of shoulders, my split currently is 1. chest/tris 2. legs 3. shoulders/bis 4. back I was reading the other day (may have been on here) about how some people skip a dedicated shoulder day entirely, and only do overhead press without any secondary work in one of their other dedicated days because the shoulders get a ton of work on other days and having a day solely for shoulders could overwork them. Anyone skip dedicated shoulder day? I'm thinking about it.
I currently do legs /shoulders-tris/back-bis-calves/chest-abs/then legs again. I never do bench press anymore now that Im solo so after some incline db's i do a lot of flys at differing angles so not a lot of shoulder involvement
Just incline. I do a ton of overhead barbell and db press and then incline press. I do incline flies and decline flies along with some hammer strength combo, but really just keeping tension the whole time.
Contest report from Saturday: This contest was at a county fair about 45 minutes from where I live. I took third at this contest last year and was looking to improve. Truck Pull Luck of the draw had me going 2nd in this event. Typically, guys who go later in truck pulls tend to do better because the axles have time to warm up. It was only an F250, but it was slightly up hill and I knew I had to do well in this if I wanted to have a good day. I started out strong, but about 20' from the finish line, the shoulder strap on the harness snapped. Not only did this make it more difficult to pull the truck because all of the weight was concentrated on one shoulder, but the loose strap dangling down was getting really close to my foot, which could have caused me to slip and eat pavement. I turned to the time keeper walking by me and said "Harness broke." After notifying her a few times, I had to be more concise and tell her to pick up the goddamn strap so I didn't step on it. I finished in 28 seconds, which was ok considering the circumstances. The judge asked me if I wanted to go again because of the equipment malfunction and I told him I'd wait and see how my time held up. I ended up finishing 5 seconds faster then the guy who took 2nd, so I decided to stick with my time. I've historically been fantastically mediocre at truck pulls, so a win in this event was a great start to the day. Here's a picture that was in the local paper today, broken harness and all. Farmer walk/tire flip The event was an 80' farmers walk with 230 lbs/hand into an 800 lb tire for 4 flips. Winning the first event gave me the advantage of getting to go last in this event. The first 4 or 5 guys did the farmers walk just fine, but weren't able to flip the tire. I was starting to wonder if someone misjudged the weight of the tire, but then the next few guys completed the course. I knew I was going to have to go ham if I wanted to do well. It was already pushing 90 degrees and humid as hell and it was only 11:00. Sweat was going to make getting a grip on the farmers and tire an issue. I finished the course in 33 seconds, which was a full 5 seconds ahead of the second place competitor. Keg Press As far as kegs go, these were on the lighter side. There were 5 sand-filled kegs ranging from 120 lbs to 200 lbs. I'm not the greatest presser, so I knew that with two event wins already under my belt, I just needed to not fuck up and get a decent finish to maintain my lead in the overall standings. I finished all 5 kegs in 42 seconds, which was good enough for 2nd in this event. Super yoke Going into this event, I was confident that I was going to do well. It's one of my best events and anything less than a win would be disappointing. The weight was 610 for 80 feet and one of the guys who went before me put up a time of 11 seconds and change. I knew I was going to have to step it up and be borderline out of control if I wanted to post a better time than him. My start was fast and I quickly accelerated to top speed. About half way down the course, I could tell that I was on the verge of being out of control, which was necessary if I was going to win it. About 10 feet from the finish, I pushed it too hard and lost control. I quickly picked it back up again and crossed the line in 13 seconds flat. It was good enough for 2nd place, but had I not dropped it, I would have won my 3rd event of the day. I was disappointed, but whatever. Stones Going into the stones, I had a 4 point lead in the standings over the guy in second place. Not to brag, but I'm one of the best and fastest stone lifters around so I knew that only a freak accident was going cost me the overall victory. I went and sat in the shade with my family and relaxed while they got set up. The guy sitting in 2nd wasn't so smart. One of the things I've learned over the years is not to put your tacky on until the last possible minute before doing stones. (Tacky is the pine resin that we use to help us get a grip on the stones). If it's hot and you put it on too early, the ridiculously sticky tacky will turn into slime by the time it's your turn to step up to the platform. Mr. 2nd Place got a little too ambitious and started putting all of his tacky on about 30 minutes before he had to. When it was his turn at the stones, his tacky was like goo and he wasn't even able to get the first stone to his lap. I got the first 3 stones in something like 10 seconds, which was already enough to win the event and the contest. I went to load the 4th stone and then realized there was no reason to tear a bicep or hamstring, so I let it drop harmlessly. It's mathematically impossible to lose a contest if you win 3/5 events and take 2nd in the other two, so I guess it was one of my more dominating performances. I finished 10 points ahead of 2nd place. It's been a long time since I last brought home top honors and it was even more special because both of my kids were there to watch the whole thing. I celebrated with a few beers at the beer garden and some awesomely greasy fair food before going home to cool off and nurse my sunburn. It was fun while it lasted, but it's back to the grindstone tonight.
They head back home thinking 1) Dad really is Superman and 2)I better not fuck with Dad. Pretty damn cool, man. Congrats.
Saw that. Fucking wild. It's not inherently bad, perse', but I really wish that would've stayed behind closed doors. I don't particularly care, it doesn't matter at all to anyone outside his circle and I really didn't want to know.
Congrats lhprop1, that's awesome. Rest up Where Eagles Dare, hope it's not serious. This morning I set a huge PR for me on my last day of squatting for this training cycle. Got 295 lbs for 4 reps. Weight felt awesome. I have a good bit of confidence under the bar right now. With me getting 4 reps (top reps for today's programming calling for 1-4 reps), this means I will increase my projected max of 305 going into this cycle by 1.09x for a new projected max of approximately 335 going into my next cycle. Next week I travel for a few days for work, which coincides with a light deload so that works well. Looking forward to starting another 6-week cycle the week after. Based on that next cycle, I'm not expecting to break a new PR until week 4, so I'm a good 5 weeks away from that. My goal at the beginning of the summer was to put 3 plates on the bar by the end of the summer. Goal still achievable. Cheers, gents.
The guy in Gold spot, Jose Castillo, was just busted for a failed PED test for his 2nd time. He now faces an 8-year ban and possible lifetime ban. This makes Brett Gibbs the champion of the 84kg class at Worlds.

Sucks to see guys competing in natural feds while using. Just sack up and compete with the other guys using. Nobody cares if they use, they only care when they try to cheat with it.
We have a protein shake machine at the school where i work. I can drink it for free daily. Would this work as a weight loss supplement?
I joined Lifetime Fitness because it's right by my office, open 4 am to 12 pm (my irregular schedule is what I started using to blame for not going to the gym), and incredibly nice. When you join, you get a certain number of "Lifetime Bucks" which can be applied to different services from personal training, group classes, etc. You can also use them for their "90-day Challenge," which runs across all of their gyms. A $10,000.00 prize is given to the male and female winners of the "body transformation" and weight loss competitions. (See: http://www.lifetime-weightloss.com/90dayrules/). I'm three weeks back into regularly (5x a week) working out (glad to be back, bros), and the challenge starts on August 11. I think I'm going to join the "body transformation" part of it. I know it's a short timeframe, but I'm far enough removed from working out that I still think I can get some "beginner gainz" again. Thoughts/suggestions on a strategy? Should I approach it with a bulk/cut plan, or is that even possible to do in ~115 days? What would be the most efficient lifting program to follow for that kind of time period?
The "beginner gainz" idea is centered around the idea that you body does not know how to properly recruit the muscles for the lifts and such. It seems as though if you already know how to lift, the neurological adaptations would be much more muted. But why the hell not try for this competition?
New PR on deadlift yesterday..wasn't feeling all that great heading into it..always nice when that happens.
wouldn't waste money on any kind of competition like this unless they tested for PEDs srs. One thing I've noticed in the last ~7 years of working out at almost a dozen different lifetime/24/golds/LA locations is that roid use in average joes is rampant these days. If you're doing it for motivational factors to get in good shape though it's a great idea since you are essentially getting to enter the contest for free.
There's like 2 little guys that juice at the LA Fitness I go to. They're both "chest and arm" guys and look and lift like garbage and all the juice is doing for them is giving them some wicked backne. There was this one huge ass fucker that was most likely juicing but this dude looked like a damn WWE wrestler. Gold's/World gyms are where you find the roids.
Golds is definitely the worst for it. Hell two of the trainers at the Golds by my office don't even try to hide it anymore
Eh, why should they? In all honesty, unless it's against your employer policy I don't see any reason for someone not using them if they want too.
It's not completely data-driven, so I don't think roids will be that big of a problem. Here's the dude who won the last one: http://www.lifetime-weightloss.com/90-day-challenge-vote-eduardoa/
that before pic is pretty funny. let me see how fat i can make myself look. slouch poke out stomach smush chin down bert face profit
What are your current height, weight and what's your previous training experience? With any quick "body transformation" type deal, I'd recommend a high volume, bodybuilding style routine and eating around maintenance. That will allow you to lean out and probably put on some muscle since you're relatively "untrained" at the moment. Building muscle while maintaining body fat will reduce your body fat percentage as it is so I'd def go in that direction. You could and probably should also add some cardio in there as well. Lower calories on off days, if possible. That's all pretty general but meh, should help give a little direction to start
Because it's illegal. It's literally against every single employer policy out there. Whether they enforce it or not is a different story but unless you have a legit rx for it (which would only constitute TRT doses so you're still going to get in trouble), it's illegal and charged far harsher than it should be. Pretty sure it's considered a class II narcotic or some shit which is charged the same way heroin and similar drugs are. When I was in high school, some jack ass at Gold's try to sell to me and I told him I wasn't interested. He was so open and brash about it that one day he unsuspectingly talked to a cop about it. 2 months later he was arrested... and 100% fucked.
I don't know where you work but I've never seen that tested for in a drug screen for employment. I understand athletes or whatever being tested for it, but if some desk jockey wants to do it then I don't see what's wrong with that. For what? It's not cheating if you're not in a competition for anything.
Went to the gym at 5:15 the other day. Not really by choice, fiance shattered a pint glass in the kitchen at 4:30 am so I had the pleasure of cleaning that up. Figured I wasn't falling back asleep and knew I was busy after work so I went for it. Actually really enjoyed it, whether it becomes a habit remains to be seen.
If you do decide to enter the contest, you can get a bit of advantage by sodium loading. Eat a ton of high sodium stuff like Chinese food and gorge on water the day or two before the contest starts. If done properly, you can be rockin' 10+ lbs of bloat for the initial weigh in that will vanish as soon as your body purges the sodium and extra water. Life hack.
That was kind of my plan. I'm a little under 6'6" and 264 this morning. I've lifted a good bit (religiously for HS football, off and on for 8-9 years, then back seriously from 2012-2013, then got hurt and really quit all together). I have significant hardware in my left wrist, so I can't do certain lifts well anymore. But, I know how to do most/all.
