Janssen looked really at home with the rest of the attacking players today as well. We were pinging passes in and around the box with absurd precision. His 1-2 with Dele on his goal was awesome. He had a tiny finish on his goal and started the move which resulted in Harrison's as well. I think he and Kane could do a lot of damage on the field together, doesn't necessarily have to be an either/or type of thing. Full highlights.
Not hard to see why Icardi's wife is shopping him with that Inter squad, woof. Perisic looked good on his goal, didn't realize he was that quick but he got behind Walker who never recovered.
What would be everyone's ideal lineup if you were in charge for the Everton match? Feel free to use a different formation than our standard. Ive been toying with different ideas, and wouldn't mind us going with a very attack minded set up for the opener, especially with Dembele out. -----------------------------Hugo-------------------------- Walker------------Toby----------Kev---------rose ---------------------Dier--------------------------------- --------------------------------Alli------------------------ --------Lamela----------------------Eriksen-------- -----------------------Kane------------------------------ ---------------------------------Janssen---------------- With Dembele out I'd slide Alli alongside Dier for the time being, with freedom to go forward. He is better when playing in the hole but for the sake of trying to fit in other players I think he would still have a big impact coming from a bit deeper. I think Eriksen could perform that role as well. Pairing Dier and Wanyama would be a bit too defensive as neither has the ability of Dembele to glide past defenders and kickstart an attack with regularity. Kane likes to drop deep and receive the ball anyway so I think he could be great playing slightly off Janssen when we have both on the pitch. The two have similar games and could complement each other very well, alternating who is furthest forward to keep defenders guessing. This isn't the lineup I think we go with, but it'd be one I'd like to trot out. Against weaker sides we could really pile on the pressure with this group of lads, with the full backs providing width per usual.
Paul Mitchell resigned. That definitely concerns me. If his role is what I think it was in identifying talent over the last two years then it is a bad loss.
that is incredibly concerning. if it's because of his relationship with levy, that makes me really nervous. of course this happens now
It gets worse. WTF is going on? head of player identification Rob Mackenzie has also left club, as well as recruitment head Paul Mitchell
Those two positions seem like they would be pretty tight. I bet this bottlecap I just popped that they end up at the same club.
The club is just a business for Levy, he has no interest in allowing our staff to make big splash signings intended for immediate impact Every manager we've had over the years has become frustrated as shit with him The deals for N'Jie and N'Koudou are now off the table
I hate Levy, always have and always will. I give him no credit whatsoever for the team last season and will give him all the blame if we don't finish top four this year. His unwillingness to spend any money when the PL is printing it is infuriating.
Sure but aren't we trying to chill so that we can pay for this stadium? I want to see a good product on the field of course but who do you really want to go out and get to insert into the starting XI? I know others are splashing big time but I don't know who I would want to bench from last season's starters. We were good enough, if Dembele hadn't been suspended, to finish 2nd behind a team that refused to drop points playing an infuriating style of football. So I believe in the players we have now and the system we have in place. Adding depth, as we have done, is fine, but you don't add depth by signing players in the 40m+ range.
I don't have the history with the club that some do, but I am not sure how anyone can hate Levy. What he has built and the philosophy that he uses to run this like a business has been nothing short of brilliant and what you want from the guy controlling the purse strings. Anyone can spend like Mourinho on talent that everyone is aware of and then make mistakes land cover them up when the club has money. $100 million for Pogba...seriously? He may not even be a top 10 player in soccer, and maybe not even in the league. He may not even be the best player on his own team. By contrast, Levy has balanced the budget and funded a stadium project that will provide so much more financial flexibility in the future. He has the long game down and he is winning it. He is a strategic thinker with a long-term plan. That is what it looked like this club needed and got with him.
Levy's always been a twat, save for actually caving in and spending the Bale money which to his defense mostly blew up in his face (notably Soldado).
he might be a twat, but he has done great things for spurs he has his shortcomings with managerial relations, but he seems to have found someone he trusts in poch
Does anyone know if Poch and Levy like the same brand of cereal? Levy is saving us money and is a tough negotiator, almost to a fault, but no one is gonna fuck us over.
Yeah I'm sure Levy will actually spend money when the new stadium opens He didn't do shit to improve the team last time we made champions league and he didn't do anything this time either. While our competition are all out improving their teams we're simply hoping everyone stays healthy and plays as well as they did last year. Not the best strategy when the amount of points we scored last year usually finishes 4th or 5th.
last time we made champions league, he managed to sign rafael van der vaart for like 11 mil, sandro from inter in brazil, and got william gallas on a free from arsenal (who ended up playing a HUGE role in UCL play). this year we've signed vincent janssen and victor wanyama, which are filling two positions which fans would likely agree needed the most bolstering. what would you like to be done? another AM, sure, but who was going to pay gotze's wages? to say that he didn't do anything to improve the team in 2010 is absolutely insane to me
Isco He's on less than half the wage that Gotze is on (same age also) But Isco is easily a 45mil signing and we don't do that
That is an impossible question for me to answer, because of positional differences and how players fit into different systems. i would wnat these guys ahead of him without question. The next tier is more balanced and subjective. It's not an exhaustive list by any means... Ronaldo Messi Bale Neymar Suarez Ibrahimovic Again, none of these players play his position, so it is different.
We've done a better job developing our own epl stars than almost any other team in the league recently. Better to give others coming up a chance to break thru then block their path to the starting 11 with high priced mercenaries imo. Also Alli and Dier both cost 5m and had a bigger impact than any 30m signing could have.
Heard it on a podcast so it may or may not be accurate, but we got Lloris, Eriksen, Alli, Dier, and Alderweireld for the same price City paid for Stones. Obviously fees have been inflated recently because of the new TV contract.
And he's in the starting lineup today Jan has made it back to health fairly quickly, surprised to not see Wimmer on the bench though. Very young bench we've got this morning. Dele is switching to using his first name on the back of his jersey. God I wish Harry would do the same.
Let go boys. Need to get 3 today against a weakened Everton side. Wanyama and Dier in midfield is a little defensive so hopefully Poch is ready to make some offensive subs if we're not winning in the second half.
