Looks like Janssen is finally done... http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/live/36413835 We mentioned earlier (10:39 BST) that AZ Alkmaar are reportedly close to agreeing a fee with Tottenham Hotspur for striker Vincent Janssen. Now, the striker has spoken to Dutch paper Algemeen Dagblad and confirmed the switch: "I am glad that it is now almost complete. For me it was from the beginning that I wanted to go Spurs. "It is a beautiful club with a fantastic new stadium and heaps of potential. Anyone in my shoes, would make this step. "
since late may. had a conference there last weekend and was visiting my old man in barcelona in may, so I decided to Airbnb the interim in Lille rather than flying back and then doing the whole thing again in six weeks
It was awesome. Scored tickets to Germany - Ukraine and enjoyed that immensely. Really cool experience, the whole thing. I left with Spurs sympathy. Love the navy kits like our homie from Santiago said. The homes would be perfect if the AIA was in navy. The third kit doesn't bother me at all, actually.
people smarter than me what do you think about the idea that pochettino's style leaves the side knackered late in the season explaining the collapse? just a way to blame the boss or a flaw with his approach? tia
We had no depth and were out two very important players (Alli and Moussa) because they got stupid suspensions. An increase in squad depth and hopefully some growing up by the players would totally solve that problem.
cliffs on summer signings to add depth? the spurverts video seemed to think janssen would fall through but now it sounds like he's a done deal?
Two years ago the end of season drop-off seemed like it was caused by physically exhausted players. This past season they didn't look physically tired, but they did look mentally tired. The pressure of the title race was intense and once they dropped out it seemed like they didn't have much to play for. Losing Dembele (who was our best player for most of the year imo) and Alli (who had one of the best seasons in the world for young players) and having to replace them with below average subs definitely hurt, but we still should have been able to at least tie Newcastle. It also seemed like Poch slightly reduced the intensity of his press from last year which may have led to them having more energy at the end of the season.
So far we've signed Victor Wanyama as depth for Eric Dier in our defensive midfielder role. Dier hasn't offered much in the attack, and Wanyama will probably offer even less, but their main job is to stop the other team's attacks. Wanyama had two pretty good seasons at Southampton before dropping off this past year, but most people seem to think that's because Southampton prevented him from moving to Spurs last summer and he was kind of disgruntled about it. He's not a super star, but he's a proven premier league player and gives us depth at a position where we didn't have any. Janssen seems like it's just a formality now. He's coming from the Eredivisie (the Dutch league) and it's always hard to project how players who haven't played in the PL will adapt. This also means that not a lot of people have seen him play. But from what people do say, he sounds a lot like Kane. An extremely hard worker, really good finisher, and (most importantly) someone who has a great feel for the game, but more of a good all-around athlete instead of someone who is going to physically dominate you with speed, quickness, strength, etc. These are the two minimum signings we needed. Another striker and another defensive midfielder. I would also like us to sign another central attacking midfielder to provide depth and competition for Eriksen and, depending on how Cameron Carter-Vickers* is progressing, another right footed center back so Dier doesn't have to also serve as Alderweireld's back up at right center back. I also wouldn't mind a third striker signing or a clone of Dembele. *Cameron Carter-Vickers (CCV) is one of the top prospects in Tottenham's academy. He's an American and son of a basketball player, but grew up in England with his mom. All reports are that he should be at least a serviceable premier league player for Spurs in the future. It just depends on how fast he develops.
I would say our next group of potential needs assuming we sign Janssen are box to box midfielder, CB and CAM. CAM could be helped by our young guys if they progress, CB could use another body and I think we definitely should sign another solid midfielder to back up Moussa. At CAM N'Jie and Pritchard need to get healthy so we can see if they can play. Onomah is still crazy young having just turned 19 in April. Chadli and Son are solid backups who I hope we don't sell. Dele could play the box to box role but he is at his best when he's in a more attacking role where he can create chances. If no one is sold from this group we could roll with it as is especially if Poch has faith in N'Jie, Pritchard and Onomah. At CM Mason and Carroll are flat out not good enough and one if not both will likely be sold. Bentaleb is still only 21 but even when he wasn't hurt last year he struggled to make the bench. Wanyama was a great addition but can only play CDM. Winks is only 20. Another body is definitely needed here, especially if Mason and/or Carroll are sold. At CB we can't count on having another almost injury free season. Our top 3 are damn good quality but after that there isn't really anything. Dier can play there but he needs to rest on his off days rather then backing up at CB. CCV isn't turning 19 until December. Fazio I assume will be gone. If they can bring in another cheapish youngish player like they did with Wimmer last year then I would feel a lot better. He can get occasional PT in cup games and be there for emergencies. FB is set with us being two deep at each position. Can afford to sell Yedlin () with the depth we have. GK is set with Vorm an ok backup, Hugo being an absolute boss. F finally has some depth assuming Janssen is signed. Wouldn't mind another F signing but at least we finally (hopefully) have someone to back up Harry.
From all of the quotes from Janssen himself there is no way that he doesn't end up here, IMO. I just don't see how even Levy could manage to bungle this over a few million. He seems like he will fit in perfectly with our top lad culture. http://www.spurs-web.com/spurs-news/janssen-ive-always-wanted-spurs-move/ Vincent Janssen expects to shortly complete a move from AZ Alkmaar to Tottenham after suggesting that both clubs are close to reaching an agreement. Janssen – who scored a penalty for Holland in their 2-1 win at Wembley in March – had returned for the start of pre-season training, but in an interview with local media suggested a deal was now close. The 23-year-old who was the top scorer in the Dutch league last season with 27 goals said his goodbyes to his team-mates earlier today and is now set to travel to London to finally complete his move which is now said to be close to AZ’s asking price of 17million Euros. Quoted by Algemeen Dagblad, in an online article including photos of the player apparently saying his goodbyes at the training ground, Janssen confirmed: “I won’t train with AZ any more. The clubs are now really close to an agreement. I will go home and wait for the phone call to go. “I am glad that it is almost complete. For me it was clear from the beginning that I wanted to go to Spurs. “The competition appeals to me and the plan of the coach is similar to the plan that AZ boss John van den Brom shared with me a year ago at AZ. “It is a beautiful club with a fantastic stadium and heaps of potential. Anyone in my shoes would take this step.” Tottenham are aiming to reinforce their attacking options to help alleviate the pressure on main frontman Harry Kane ahead of a Champions League campaign. Janssen is sure he can work alongside the England striker and help bag the goals for Spurs. “Harry Kane? People can say what they want, but I am not afraid of (competition from) anybody. He is a great striker, but we naturally will see how it goes,” the Dutch forward added. “We can complement each other, I think I can learn a lot from him.”
Hot rumor of the day has us going against BvB for Gotze. If that is the case I suspect he will remain in the Bundesliga. I thought Iron Mickey had proclaimed his allegiance awhile ago, could be mistaken though.
Him joining the Tottenham fanbase would be akin to Durant to Golden State. Complete overkill for what is already the most talented group of posters on TSB.
Who is everyone backing to be the academy product who breaks out this season? We have a lot of talent in the pipeline, so there are more than a few possibilities. It will all depend on where we are able to strengthen over the summer and any potential injuries we may sustain early on during the season but I wouldn't be surprised to see one or more of Onomah, CCV, Shayon Harrison, or my personal favorite Marcus Edwards start to emerge a little bit. At the least they should get some run during the early rounds of the cup competitions, with players like Onomah possibly establishing themselves as solid bench players. I was impressed with him more than a few times last season before he seemed to fade a bit. If we don't bring in another center back this summer then CCV may be the 4th option at center back heading into the season. Taking into account Jan is sidelined and hoping we manage to offload Fazio permanently. Dominic Ball is an interesting prospect, he played well for Rangers last season in Scotland. He can play CB and defensive midfield. Looks like a pretty strapping lad.
Janssen supposedly arriving in London this morning for his physical. Waiting for confirmation from Ryanair before I believe it.
anyone have any idea what the ticketing situation will be like if they're playing in Wembley? old lady and I are thinking of going to London this winter and the options look like fighting a motherfucker for Chelsea tix, going away to Watford, or shooting early for Burnley. wasn't sure if wembley would make it harder or easier to get tix.
Victor Wanyama makes first Tottenham appearance in 3-0 friendly win over Nottingham Forest http://www.skysports.com/football/n...-forest?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
Not sure about the actual ticket situation, but wembley has a higher capacity, so it should be easier. I would shoot an email to the ticket office to get the process started. They're pretty helpful.
apparently only CL matches will be in Wembley, so PL matches will still be at WHL... I'm an idiot. I'll shoot them an email tho.
We supposedly held two meetings with his father over a potential transfer during Euro, color me skeptical.
Was reported in a German paper Bild. Are their papers as tabloidy as English ones? Devoted a page to it. http://sportwitness.co.uk/mario-gotze-to-tottenham-father-meetings/
From what I read, Bild is a tabloid and is only ok on Bayern news, and even then, they used to be more in tune with the team than now. Not sure how to feel yet.
