Shia LaCrap is out. Marky Mark is in. http://movies.yahoo.com/blogs/movie-talk/fans-react-mark-wahlberg-star-transformers-4-185556891.html Fans react to Mark Wahlberg as star of ‘Transformers 4′ By Claudine Zap | Movie Talk – 5 hours ago It's official: Say hello to Mark Wahlberg as the new "Transformers" star. Director Michael Bay confirmed that the 41-year-old "Ted" actor will replace the 26-year-old Shia LaBeouf for the fourth movie in the franchise based on the Hasbro toys. And fans on the Web seemed to have had a role in the decision. After first denying rumors that he was working with Wahlberg on a different film project, director Michael Bay appeared to reconsider. He wrote on his website, "Mark is awesome. We had a blast working on 'Pain and Gain' and I'm so fired up to be back working with him. An actor of his caliber is the perfect guy to re-invigorate the franchise and carry on the Transformers' legacy." Bay added a hat tip to fans on the Web: "Let's say that very internet chatter gave me some ideas…so I'm here to say thanks internet chatter." Predictably, there was plenty of Internet chatter on the Wahlberg news. Total Film opined, "Perhaps now all those Shia-haters will have a leading man to rally behind." Tart comments on Entertainment Weekly included Gerry's "You're welcome, Michael Bay. Now please, stop making these." Heather added, "I don't even like these movies but I'll go see this one just for Mark!" Over on IMDb, BVictor1 wrote: "Bay called Wahlberg the 'perfect guy to re-invigorate the franchise and carry on the Transformers' legacy' How about a decent story line." Marc Valenzuela posted, "I'm OFFICIALLY game! Let's see Mark Wahlberg take the robot reigns in which Shia LaBeouf stepped down from. I have the utmost respect for both of them." But Judy Thompson was disappointed at the switch in stars. She wrote, "No more Shia? I probably won't be seeing the next one, then!" Ricardo Cardoza imagined Wahlberg's dialogue in the movie (inspired by Andy Samberg's impression from "Saturday Night Live"): "Hey Bumblebee, so you don't talk huh? I like that! You're made of steel huh? Yeah, so are my biceps! Say hi to your mutha for me!" Screen Rant added a thought on plot: "With an Academy Award-nominated actor front and center, as opposed to Shia Lebouf's permanently flustered Sam Witwicky, the reports of Transformers 4 telling a darker story carry a bit more water." Ted Consolacion on IMDb added, "Maybe Wahlberg is the older Witwicky." Whatever the direction of the next film, Bay has good reason to keep the sci-fi franchise going. The last movie, which opened in 2011 — "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" — made over a billion dollars worldwide and became the fifth-highest-grossing film of all time. The fourth movie will hit theaters on June 27, 2014.
Fuck me I'm a tasteless asshole but I genuinely enjoyed watching sports cars turn into badass robots 3 movies and will gladly do it a fourth.
I've never understood people's complaints about these movies. Like I'm sorry Martin Scorsese doesn't direct your cartoon inspired alien robot movies...
Would rather this just be a complete reboot but finally seems that Bay and Kruger are out of the franchise. The Transformers writers room has just gotten a little bigger. Deadline are reporting that screenwriting duo Andrew Barrer & Gabriel Ferrari have joined up with Paramount Pictures to help bring to life an expanded universe for the multi-billion dollar franchise, including prequels, sequels and, of course, spin-off movies. While they aren't likely to be recognizable names yet, the pair did help re-write Ant-Man for Marvel, in the wake of Edgar Wright's departure. Barrer & Ferrari join fellow MCU scribes Zak Penn (The Incredible Hulk), Art Marcum & Matt Holloway (Iron Man) in the Transformers writing room, alongside Jeff Pinker (The Amazing Spider-Man 2), The Walking Dead's Robert Kirkman and Akiva Goldsman (I Am Legend). So far it is unclear which writer will be working on which film, but Deadline have claimed that Barrer & Ferrari expect to be working on a live-action feature. The site also believes that one of the titles in the works at Paramount is an origins story set on Cybertron, with the working title of Transformers One.
Watched all of the other knowing they would be pieces of shit, will watch this one too. At least I can be somewhat hopeful for now
The tagline for the Transformers films should be: "We make awesome trailers, but shitty films. Come give us all your money."
if the movie is actually that dark, it could reignite trauma that has been buried deep for 3 decades, since the cartoon Transformers movie. Optimus executes Bumblebee? whoa nelly.
Paramount planning more than a dozen Transformers films Love 'em or hate 'em, the Transformers movies make lots and lots of money. That fact obviously hasn't been lost on execs at Paramount, where the franchise has flourished through four installments—with a fifth, The Last Knight, due this summer, and a spinoff in development. According to director Michael Bay, what we've seen so far is only the beginning of the studio's plans. MTV (via ScreenRant) caught up with Bay at CinemaCon, and took the opportunity to ask him about the future of the Transformers franchise—and whether he might be willing to go back on his oft-stated promise that The Last Knight is really, truly his final film in the series. As it turns out, there might actually be a way for Paramount to lure Bay back into the director's chair for a future Transformers project. "There are 14 stories written and there's good stuff," said Bay. "I would like to do one of them, though…a Transformers spinoff." The fact that the studio would really like to keep cranking out Transformers blockbusters really isn't news—Paramount announced plans to build a cinematic universe around the robots in disguise two years ago—and prior to vowing he'd walk away after The Last Knight, Bay threatened to quit the franchise more than once. Still, it's something of a surprise to learn that there are already more than a dozen ideas for Transformers movies in various stages of development, and it's hard not to wonder which of them is intriguing enough to tempt Bay into a return. Fans will just have to wait and see what Paramount has planned for the Transformers franchise. In the meantime, The Last Knight is due to arrive in theaters on June 23—and the saga's first spinoff, a film focused on the adventures of the noble Autobot called Bumblebee, is in the works with director Travis Knight at the helm. It looks like they went back to the roots somewhat. I’m intrigued by this one. As much as I loved transformers growing up they lost me on the movies. They sucked for the most part. Still remember the trauma from the 80’s anime movie when the decepticons were dumping autobots in the molten lava or whatever it was.
I agree. Love the original look of the transformers. I’ll be a diehard fanboy of all the movies even though Bay did what he did with them.
Where does this bumble bee movie fall in the timeline? Is this supposed to be after the marky mark one, or does this go back to the beginning?
I wish it was a completely new universe but its a prequel to the original transformers from what I read.
Takes place in 1987. Sounds like there’s plenty of great odes in this movie to the 80’s animated series.
Fun movie. Loved that they used the classic designs of the robots (especially the brief moments Shockwave and Soundwave are shown) and could distinguish them apart during the fighting.
Those fucks killed off Optimus Prime like 30 minutes into the movie and made Hot Rod's bitchass the new leader. Most likely so they could sell more toys. I will never not be mad about that.
Bumblebee movie has heart and Hailee Steinfeld yes. 80s greatness galore. Soundwave’s short scenes are an animated series boner. They can completely reboot this franchise from this movie. Give the franchise to Phil Knight’s son, who grew up on this and obviously has talent.
The Transformers movies lost me when they dumped Duhamel and Tyrese. The unintentional (and maybe sometimes intentional) comedy of that duo kept me entertained through the first three shit movies. They brought Duhamel back in the 5th but dumped Tyrese so I don't count that.
beast wars was a fucking awesome show loved watching it early AM growing up for like the 2 seasons it was aired
