I'm just letting myself totally buy into sweet Lou's old saying about the progression of a program under a new coach; first you lose big, next you lose close, then you win close, then you win big. We're just in phase one
We lost power for most of the day Saturday. No other damage. Came into the office this morning and there's a tree down in our parking lot. Not lucky enough for it to hit a power line and give me an extra day off though.
You guys need better depth on the DL, and your LBs are a weak point right now. The defense played very well, but teams that can run the ball, will push that envelope all game. Not sure what the time of possession was, but it felt like your defense was out there all of the time.
Our entire defense needs better talent and depth, but muschamp has them playing great football for the most part
Yeah, the assignment discipline was very good. The DBs were always well positioned, and the LBs looked good in coverage.
How does giving up 300+ yards rushing equal "great football"? Eason was airmailing open receivers who were just standing in vacated zones, you couldn't get any real pass rush, and they nearly had three different runners go for 100. East Carolina had a bunch of stupid redzone turnovers but had like 500 yards of offense. East Carolina.
If you can't see that our defense has drastically improved in the short time that Muschamp has been here, that's fine, but it really only confirms that you're every bit as stupid as everyone thinks you are. Rise above, Tboone. Be better.
After speaking with more than one source on Tuesday, I believe the Gamecock coaching staff is on the verge of turning toJake Bentley as quarterback for the second half of the season. I anticipate Bentley getting a lot of work with the first team this week, and it would not surprise me to see him get the nod against UMass and be the starter the rest of the season. I think the staff is considering going this route for multiple reasons. First off, they obviously need an offensive spark and Bentley is the most gifted signal-caller on the team. Secondly, they have to give recruits a glimpse of what the offense will look like going forward and Bentley has a chance to not only help the passing game but indirectly help the running game as well if he becomes a legitimate threat to make plays down the field with his arm. For those who worry that Bentley might not be happy with only playing half the season and not getting to redshirt, I can tell you that is a non-issue. He did not graduate from high school early to redshirt. He wanted to compete from day one and has done just that. He has not spent time running the scout team, but rather the staff has continued to prepare him just like the other quarterbacks even though he has not seen game action yet this season. Given all of the offensive issues, I would caution the fan base to temper their expectations for Bentley. While he is very talented, he is still a true freshman who did not enroll early. Like any quarterback under that scenario, he will likely make some mistakes and look like a true freshman at times. He will also likely show the fans and his teammates why the staff is so excited about his future as times, too.
The idea that Bentley is eventually going to be a RS-Jr on the bench while McIlwain is a starting Sr. is far-fetched. And really that's the only reason we'd want to redshirt Bentley. In the fullness of time you can expect one of them to transfer.
and if we redshirt him while McIlwain gets playing time, it becomes unlikely Bentley will stick around long enough for that redshirt senior season to come to fruition
Okay, but wouldn't that be a good problem to have? Like that either means that McIlwain figured it out, or that Bentley wasn't good enough to beat him out. Either way, Bentley transferring out isn't that big of a deal.
Who is old enough to tell the story of Tanneyhill's freshman year where they had a "players only" meeting midseason and made him starting QB and they won out?
If McIlwain is better than Bentley, we wouldn't play Bentley. But we won't really know who is better until Bentley gets some playing time. Not necessarily. A QB won't develop without playing time. My concern is that Bentley could be the better QB over the long term, given sufficient reps -- but that if McIlwain gets all the reps, he'll perpetually remain the better short-term option.
Does anyone in here watch Luke Cage or Jessica Jones on Netflix? Found out today the dude who plays Cage is a USC alum https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Colter
Bentley is better than Mcilwain and would have beaten him out next year anyway. No need to redshirt especially when he can help this year.
Microbrewery OK’d for Innovista Area Columbia Craft Brewing Co. Has Trademarked “Famously Hopped” Spoiler By Eva Moore Wednesday, October 12, 2016 Share Tweet Share Pin Share Current view of the Pulaski Street side of the warehouse The city’s zoning board has given a thumbs-up to a microbrewery slated for a rapidly developing area near the corner of Huger and Greene Streets. Columbia Craft Brewing Co. would occupy a converted warehouse on the site that used to house Columbia Flag and Banner (now Columbia Flag and Sign Co., which has moved to West Columbia). The site also briefly served as the Columbia office of Marco Rubio’s presidential campaign. The microbrewery will include a 3,500-square-foot 15-barrel brewing facility, an 1,800-square-foot tap room and an outdoor beer garden. Two existing buildings, which used to serve as the retail part of the flag shop, would be knocked down. The warehouse behind them, meanwhile, would be refurbished and converted into the brewery, with a “rustic warehouse feel,” per architect Dan Sherer. The facility would be a microbrewery, not a brewpub — state law makes a distinction — and while it might have some limited food offerings, dining would not be the focus. Inside the not-yet-converted space. Photos courtesy City of Columbia The Columbia Board of Zoning Appeals must approve all “drinking establishments,” and city staff decides the brewery’s tap room would count as such. However, Columbia Craft investor Richard Strauss notes that the brewery does not plan to stay open late — brewery tap rooms usually close by 10 p.m., and often earlier — and would only be serving draft beer. “We don’t serve wine, and we would not be serving any liquor drinks,” Strauss told the board. “We’re not presenting ourselves as a late night bar.” Strauss, a certified public accountant in Columbia, is the named investor in Columbia Craft; he has the property under contract. He tells Free Times the company has already hired a professional brewer, and has other investors lined up, none of whom he wants to name. “It’s a combination and a collaborative effort of people who are interested as business owners, investors and as brewers,” he says. The brewer, per Strauss, would be relocating from another brewery in the Southeast to head up the production brewing operation. “He really becomes the face of the brewery,” Strauss told Free Times, raising expectations that the brewer may already be well known through his work at another brewery. Columbia Craft has already trademarked the phrase “craft beer famously hopped” and a logo, according to a letter Strauss sent the city. “We have also protected names such as … ‘Famously Pale,’ ‘Famously Gold,’ ‘Famously Stout,’ and ‘Famously Red’ for an initial lineup of beers,” the letter reads. The proposed site backs up to one student housing complex, Greene Crossing, and would be near several others. The Gamecocks’ baseball stadium is nearby. Hospitality businesses in the area include Thirsty Fellow and Uncle Fester’s. The microbrewery would also have a front-row seat to the redevelopment of Greene Street, part of a long-running joint vision between the University of South Carolina, Richland County and the City of Columbia to expand development in the area, dubbed Innovista. Greene Street is currently cut off by a railroad track just east of Pulaski Street; under the construction plan, a bridge would extend Greene over the track, creating a passage from the Colonial Life Arena to Huger Street. Richland County’s penny tax includes funding for the project, the first phase of which has already begun with the streetscaping of Greene near the Darla Moore School of Business and the construction of an urban square near the arena. http://www.free-times.com/news/microbrewery-okd-for-innovista-area-101216
i get hoping this, but he has like 1.5 years of experience being a starting qb we have no idea how well bentley is going to play out
Can someone explain the legend of Rico Dowdle again? I count 77 yards rushing with a long of 12 yards in two games on the season. Is there another Rico Dowdle on the roster with better production?
