I guess the only situation depends on if he becomes really good, what country he goes to and establishes residency and constantly turns us down.

Once he plays in an official competition like say U-17 WCQ, then he can only appear with the U.S. or El Salvador for the rest of his career. It's how Subotic could never represent Germany.

    Pro Prospects: American at PSG

Article Written by J.R. Eskilson, ESNN
    Updated: May 9, 2012

Piakai Henkel has never appeared with a U.S. youth national team, played in the Development Academy, or followed any traditional path for player development in the U.S.
Yet, the teenager from Northern California finds himself at one of the most prestigious youth academies in the world, Paris Saint Germain.
And how he arrived there is a bit serendipitous.
    [IMG]Piakai Henkel
“In 2010, I was in Paris on vacation when a PSG scout saw me play,” Henkel told TopDrawerSoccer.com. “He immediately scheduled a try-out with PSG. I spent three days at the academy and after that they offered me a spot on the team.”
Henkel thanks his mother for the chance, as she is from France and regularly brought her son with her on trips back to her native land. She now lives with Piakai in Paris.
Henkel is one of the first from the U.S. to join the academy. Current UCONN Director of Soccer Quality Control Brian Clarhaut holds the distinction as the first. He was a member of the French club's youth system from 2002-03.
Currently, Eric Fabre, a defender from Southern California, also is a member of a PSG youth team. Fabre currently plays center back for the U19 team, and will be attending Stanford in the fall.
As for Henkel, the 17-year-old midfielder is in his second season with PSG’s U17 squad, which is top of the table in the Championnat National Group F and recently won the Al Kass International Cup in Qatar.
“Our first game was against Al Ahly an Egyptian club, we won 7-0,” Henkel said. “I had a goal and an assist in the second half.”
Henkel added that all of the games from the event were broadcast on television both in Qatar and in Europe.
“I remember watching TV in the hotel room after the match and seeing my goal getting played over and over again,” Henkel said. “It was a special feeling.”
PSG U17 recorded a 2-2 draw against Barcelona in the second game of the event, and advanced as the top team in the group. PSG beat Kashima Antlers in the semifinal before topping Juventus in penalty kicks in the final.
“Once our last penalty kick taker made his shot, we all sprinted to corner flag and proceeded to crush each other in a huge dog-pile. Epic! Afterwards, under gold confetti we were awarded the tournament trophy, which looked very similar to the world cup trophy. I remember thinking, that this is why we play sports, to experience things like these.”
It has not all been good news for Henkel; the midfielder suffered an injury shortly after the tournament, which kept him out for a month.
His team is still cruising to another league title, despite his absence, with a 20-2-3 record on the season and an absurd plus 54 goal differential. Henkel estimates he has chipped in two goals and seven assists this year.
“Not too great, but still solid. I would say that because of my injury, it was still a difficult season.”
Given FIFA laws on the signing of underage players, Henkel has been put on a year-to-year scholarship with the Paris club, but that will soon change.
“However, next year that will not be the case because I am leaving the club,” Henkel admitted. “Next season, I will be integrated into the AS Amiens U19 squad.”
AS Amiens played in Ligue 2 in 2011-12, but did not fare well with only four victories, and will be relegated to Division 3 for next season. The club’s U19 squad is third (out of 14) in Championnat National Group A behind PSG and Rennes Stade F.C.
As for his national team future, Henkel has been frustrated by the lack of attention given to his plight in France.
“One of the problems is since there are no scouts in Europe, they can't see me,” Henkel said. He went on to say that there is a possibility he gets a look at the U18 Men’s National Team this summer.

Miami teenager talks about training with Real Madrid
Tomer Bitton gained notoriety last summer when he seemingly came out of nowhere and earned a trip to Spain to play with Real Madrid's academy as part of the adidas ITP tour.
The high school junior, who plays for Boca Raton Community High School and Boca United, was also surprised by the opportunity.
“Honestly, my dad called me one day while I was on vacation in Brazil, and told me that I had an opportunity to go to Real Madrid,” Bitton told TopDrawerSoccer.com.
So on August 21, 2011, Bitton began a weeklong training period with Los Merengues.
“The experience was amazing,” Bitton said about the opportunity. “It gave me a new perspective on soccer and it changed the way I play. I think I could have done better but of course I didn’t know anyone, I don’t speak Spanish, and the style of play was very different.”
Still, the teenager left a good impression on the coaching staff, which invited him back for another trip to Spain this summer.
“They invited me to go again this summer, but I need to talk with my parents about it.”
The 16-year-old said his preferred spot is center mid, and likes to ‘play smart and simple.’
Bitton was born in New York, and lived there for 10 years before moving to Miami. He is a product of Manhattan Kickers FC.

Center back from Tennessee tries his luck in Germany
Everything seems to be going Tanner Dieterich’s way recently.
The towering defender from Tennessee recently shined on the Region III ODP trip to Mexico. Prior to that, he was part of the Sunrise Elite U14 squad that won Dallas Cup in early April.
Last summer, thanks to his club coach Ajit Korgaokar, Dieterich went on trial with FC Koln’s youth academy.
“The experience was a wonderful opportunity for me, as a young player, to see what it is like for kids my age playing in Germany,” Dieterich told TopDrawerSoccer.com. “Training was very different from my own club. In Germany, you get a sense that you are being watched and evaluated at all times.
“Training was very intense. I even got to spend some time with the Koln youth players and when they are off the field they like to have fun but as soon as they lace up their boots it’s all business for them.”
The center back, who was called into camp with the U14 Boys National Team last year, added that the main thing he realized from his time in Europe is how physical the game is there.
“The main thing was aggression and physicality,” he said. “My first match back in the U.S. was very frustrating for me because of the change in officiating style.”
He had plans to return to FC Koln in April, but could not make it. He does intend to return in the fall for another trial.

Raheem Taylor-Parkes’ successful trial with Arsenal could lead to spot in academy
It all started with a YouTube video, but it very well could end up with Raheem Taylor-Parkes becoming a YouTube sensation.
    [IMG]Raheem Taylor-Parkes (right)
Taylor-Parkes, a 14-year-old forward from Brandon FC [Florida], had a whirlwind last few weeks, which included a trip across the Atlantic for a trial with Arsenal FC’s youth academy.
Now, the London club is inquiring about his long-term services.
His path to England began last year with a highlight video posted online. The film caught the eye of a scout at Pro-Goals Sports (PGS), a management firm for athletes.
“We first saw Raheem in a few online videos in the latter part of 2011,” a PGS spokesperson told TopDrawerSoccer.com. “Then, PGS scouts saw him play games for his club team in January and February of this year.”
Impressed by Raheem-Parkes’ “pace and technical ability,” PGS’ managing director Romel Wallen used connections in Europe to setup up a weeklong tryout for the youngster with the Gunners.
The U.S. U14 Boys National Team member seized the chance, and made the most of his time in England.
“The experience was amazing,” Taylor-Parkes told TopDrawerSoccer.com. “The level of play was very fast – one and two touch – and very technical which is the Arsenal style of play.”
Wallen said that the speedy attacker made a good impression at the world-famous youth academy.
    [IMG]Raheem Taylor-Parkes
“Raheem has done very well for himself at Arsenal,” Wallen told TopDrawerSoccer.com over email. “He has proven to the technical staff that he can play among their best U15 players, and even standout in certain areas.
“His pace and general enthusiasm are his biggest assets, and all parties agree that a young player with Raheem's natural ability would benefit tremendously from early exposure to the elite European environment.”
The U.S. youth international is obviously thrilled with the prospect and the feedback he received from the club’s coaches.
“The technical staff said they liked my technical ability, speed, and aptitude to learn from the coaches,” Taylor-Parkes said. “Arsenal and Pro-Goals Sports are trying to work out a deal to keep me there on a permanent basis.”
Given the tricky nature of underage players joining international clubs, there are a few hurdles in the way for Taylor-Parkes, but PGS is well-versed in such areas and believes there is an opportunity for the youngster to join the English club.
“There are realistic avenues being explored that could allow Raheem to stay in the UK on a permanent basis, and thus play with Arsenal,” a spokesperson from PGS said. “Although it will be a challenge, PGS is confident that we can make Raheem's permanent move to England a reality.”
Raheem’s mother, Jennifer Taylor, told TopDrawerSoccer.com that she is open to relocating if her son was invited to join Arsenal’s youth academy.
“Since he was very young, he has wanted to be a soccer player,” Taylor told TopDrawerSoccer.com. “He gets in trouble at school for looking up soccer news and videos all day.”
Taylor is originally a track and field athlete from Jamaica. Raheem’s father is from the U.S. Neither played soccer growing up.
Raheem was born in Canada, but moved to Tampa by age 10.
Taylor also revealed that PGS is meeting with the family on Wednesday to discuss the next step for the young star.

U-20 FW Jerome Kiesewetter has left Hertha Berlin and signed a 4-year pro deal with Stuttgart.

Gotta like that our 4 top FW prospects at the moment for this U-20 cycle are all pros: Omar Salgado, Villyan Bijev, Johnathan Top, and Kiesewetter. Not too mention Jack McBean and Jose Villareal with the Galaxy. A couple others will probably come out of nowhere too.

Also, Bijev will probably have to go on loan again because he won't get a UK work permit.

Gil probably #1, then you also have the guys that probably weren't released like Salgado, Brooks, Cunningham, and Kiesewetter. Jonathan Top has been on the bench for FC Dallas the past few games. Ocegueda might be our top LB prospect in the entire youth system.

These are all 93's too, there's 94's also for this cycle like Guido, Pelosi, Gulley, Fehr, McBean, Stevie Rodriguez.

Pro Prospects: Another path to pro soccer

Article Written by J.R. Eskilson, ESNN
    Updated: May 30, 2012

Perhaps Irvin Raul Parra is just another player who slipped through the cracks of U.S. youth soccer or maybe he is a success story for U.S. Soccer Federation’s Development Academy.
    [IMG]Irvin Parra (green)
The midfielder from Inglewood, California is a relative unknown on the national landscape with no appearances on any youth national team.
His story is all too common in U.S. Soccer’s scene – a technically sound player who does not triumph with athleticism, but truly understands the game.
    He fell through a crack.
Last week, Parra, at the tender age of 18 years old, led FC 08 Homburg to the league crown in Oberliga Sudwest.
While the fifth division of German soccer is not what dreams are made of, Parra is living his dream despite some setbacks along the way.
He was a starting member and key piece for Pateadores U18 Development Academy squad last year, which was due to a partnership established between South Bay Force [Parra’s original club] and Pateadores.
The deal allowed South Bay Force’s top players to play in the Development Academy, an opportunity they would not have had without Pateadores.
Thanks to the contributions from the South Bay players like Parra, Javan Torre, Jose Villarreal, and others, Pateadores U18 won the 2010-11 Development Academy National Championship.
The title also marked the end of the road for the South Bay players with Pateadores, as the deal between the two clubs expired at the end of the season.
South Bay’s players moved over to Los Angeles Galaxy Academy, which had struck a new deal with the non-Development Academy club, and promptly signed Villarreal to a professional contract.
However, the new team did not work as well for Parra. The midfielder had trouble cracking the starting lineup.
“I didn't have playing time,” Parra told TopDrawerSoccer.com about leaving the MLS Academy. “The coaches wouldn't give me time to play, they didn't let me show what I can do.”
Thanks to his previous success with Pateadores, Parra, who has a similar style of play to Toronto FC’s Luis Silva, had already been scouted by an agent in the Development Academy and signed to an agency following the National Championship run.
His agency gave him the chance with FC 08 Homburg, where Parra signed his first professional contract earlier this year, but moving to a new country is rarely easy on a young player.
“The difficult part of moving to Germany is just that I’m young and I miss my family,” Parra said. “But I stay strong and keep doing what I love to do which is play the beautiful game.”
Parra is excelling in the competitive environment of German soccer.
“Every time [on the field], its competition and I like when I have competition because it can get me better,” he said. “It has been a fantastic season. It has made me grow as a player and as a person.”
The Southern California talent notched six goals and four assists in 16 games during his first season with FC 08 Homburg.
The most meaningful of those goals came two weeks ago when Parra found the back of the net in a 1-0 win over SV Alemannia Waldalgesheim. The victory clinched the league crown for Homburg and secured promotion for his club to the Regionalliga next year.
“It was just a great experience,” Parra said about tallying the game-winning goal. “After the game, Josue [Joe] Liotte, the team’s captain, told me, ‘I believed that you were going to score today.’ It was a special feeling.”
Initially, Parra signed a contract through the end of this season, but he has since renewed the contract and will be with Homburg in Regionalliga Sud/Sudwest next season.
He hopes that the promotion will help draw the attention of the U.S. Soccer Federation for a camp call up in the future. Parra is eligible for the current U20 Men’s National Team cycle.
“I’m working, playing, and doing everything I can to get a call up to the national team,” Parra said. “[Hopefully], I can get more of a chance now that I am going to play Regionalliga this year.”

Former ACC stars score for their professional clubs in Sweden
On Monday, former North Carolina Tar Heel standout Billy Schuler scored his first league goal for Hammarby.
The winger hit a swirling effort that deceived the keeper and nestled into the net in a 2-2 draw against Falkenberg.
“I did not hit it completely in the corner,” Schuler told HTV after the game. “But I got enough bend on it to fool the keeper.”
Hammarby is currently in third place in the Superettan, which is the second flight for Swedish soccer.
In the Swedish top flight, former Virginia attacker Brian “Cobi” Span also scored his first league goal in Djurgarden’s 1-1 draw with Helsingborg last Wednesday.
Djurgarden is 11th in league standings after 12 games, as it has suffered through a spell of five draws in a row.

Ben Lederman and FC Barcelona Alevin reach semifinals of Torneo Alevin Futbol XIX
U.S. youngster Ben Lederman helped FC Barcelona Alevin [U12] reach the semifinal round of the Torneo Alevin Futbol XIX last weekend. Lederman notched a goal in the first game for Barcelona at the event against Sporting Gijon, which you can see here.
Lederman also featured in the other games for Barcelona, which can be viewed in full here.
Barcelona's run in the seven-a-side event came to an end in the semifinal round with a 1-2 loss against Atletico Madrid. The club from the capital went on to win the event behind the stellar play of Fede and Salomon Obama, brothers from Equatorial Guinea.

Canouse becomes latest American to sign pro deal at Hoffenheim

The American influence at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim continues to grow.

According to Fox Soccer, 16-year-old U.S. youth national team midfielder Russell Canouse signed a professional deal with the Bundesliga side and will join the club's U-19 side this coming season after spending one year in the club's youth academy. He emerged as a standout defensive midfielder for Hoffenheim's U-17 team, earning academy Player of the Year honors.

Canouse, a Pennsylvania native, was most recently a part of the U.S. Under-18 men's national team that participated in the Lisbon International Tournament. He joins Daniel Williams, Fabian Johnson and Joe Gyau as U.S. internationals under pro deals at Hoffenheim.

"Russell is one of our top prospects in the academy. He has adjusted quickly to our environment and requirements," Alexander Rosen, Hoffenheim's academy director, told Fox Soccer. "He has a true professional attitude on and off the field and he has a bright future if he continues to work hard."

The U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team will participate at the Northern Ireland Milk Cup 2012 from July 21-26 in Ballymena, Northern Ireland. Head coach Tab Ramos will lead his squad against Denmark and Turkey in the first two matches.

“The Milk Cup will be great preparation for us in the development of our team as we move forward to qualifying for FIFA U20 World Cup in February of next year,” Ramos said.

The U.S. faces Denmark at 7 p.m. local time (2 p.m. ET) on Saturday, July 21 at Scroggy Road in Limavady. Two days later, the U.S. faces Turkey on July 23 at 8 p.m. local time (3 p.m. ET) at the Showgrounds in Ballymena.

Also participating in the six-team tournament are hosts Northern Ireland, Chile and Mexico. The playoff games to determine final placement in the event, including the final, will take place on Thursday, July 26.

Well, winning it last time proved to be worthless for WC Qualifying.

I guess at age 12 that is still possible.

You can't just expect people to scout your son randomly though. No idea where you are from, but just get him playing at the highest level of competition possible and people will notice if he really is that good.

if you have him in ODP then he will be fine. If he's good enough he'll make it.

What sucks about Vegas youth soccer is that there's no USSDA team yet. It starts at U15/U16 currently, so there's a few years for a club to get their shit together and try to get invited.

Tell me about it. I don't see much changing though unless US soccer dramatically increases the number of teams. A couple of good clubs in the city have applied every year but no luck. US soccer training center has only been here once.

Pro Prospects: German star open to U.S. call

Article Written by J.R. Eskilson, ESNN
    Updated: June 13, 2012

Julian Green, a rising talent at Bayern Munich, only lived in the United States for two years before moving to Germany, but those couple of years might be pretty significant in the near future for the player and the U.S. Soccer Federation.
Green was born in Tampa Bay, Florida, but left for Germany at the tender age of two years old. He still makes an annual trip back to the Sunshine State to visit his father, but spends most of his time scoring goals for Bayern Munich youth teams.
The striker netted 17 goals in 25 games last season for Bayern Munich U17, best on the team and top four in the Bundesliga Jugend Südwest.
The impressive season was enough to get him a couple of looks with the Germany U17 National Team in November. Green came off the bench in two friendlies against Azerbaijan.

Last season, the youngster appeared in four games with the German U16 National Team. Fittingly, he scored in his debut.
“A very special moment for me was when I was called up to play for the German Under 16 National team,” Green told TopDrawerSoccer.com. “It was a game against Cyprus in which I was also fortunate enough to score.”
Despite the appearances with the German Youth National Teams, the Bayern Munich academy standout had not closed the door on a possible future with the U.S. National Team.
“I have both the German and the American citizenship so I am still eligible to play for both nations,” Green said. “We will have to wait and see what will happen.”
Earlier this year, U.S. Soccer inquired with the Bayern Munich U17 coach about potentially calling the striker into a U18 Men’s National Team camp – the follow-up call never happened.
“Then they said they would notify me directly, yet since then three months have passed and nothing has happened,” Green added about the current situation.
While the reason behind the delay is unclear (the Federation typically does not discuss potential youth team call ups), Green's talent is undeniable.
His dynamic change of pace and ease in front of the net has made him one of the more promising prospects passing through the World-renowned academy that produced six members of the current Germany Men’s National Team.
Reports from German media outlets have said that nearly one in four players from the Bayern Munich Academy make it to first team level. Green was unsure if that figure was indeed accurate, but said he does not let the pressure that surrounds such a competitive environment get to him.
“That could be, yet I try not to think about these statistics too much and rather look at what I can do to improve my game,” Green said. “I believe in my strengths, which takes off a lot of the pressure that is put on me. One can only judge later if it was enough.”
Green, who dons the No. 10 jersey, has excelled within the demands of the academy. His 17 goals in league play clearly showcased his abilities, but he also performed exceptionally well during the Aegon Future Cup in the Netherlands in April where his team finished fourth against the likes of FC Barcelona, Ajax, and Manchester United.
Despite the acclaim, he did not have a definite opinion about whether this was his best season with Bayern.
“If it has truly has been my best season, I cannot say. I have already had a season at Bayern Munich in which I scored 28 goals in all competitions.
“But it is getting harder and harder every year due to the rise in ability the higher you advance in the youth system at Bayern Munich. Therefore, I am very pleased with the course of the season personally.”
The years at Bayern are adding up for Green, he started with the club at 12 years old after being scouted with a regional-select team.
“I have an ‘Ausbildungsvertrag’ (development contract), which states that I will pass through every Bayern Munich youth team up to the amateurs. What happens after that, we will have to see.”
Next season, Green will join the Bayern U19 squad, as he continues to climb the ladder of the club toward the first team.
While the goals seem to follow the dynamic striker everywhere he goes, U.S. Soccer fans are left wondering why the camp call ups have not come at him with the same frequency.

    Updated: June 13, 2012

U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team head coach Richie Williams has named a 24-player roster for the Copa Saprissa Internacional tournament in San Jose, Costa Rica. The U.S. will hold a domestic training camp in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., from June 17-21 before departing for Costa Rica on June 21.

The U.S. U-17 Men are scheduled to play up to seven matches during the 12-team tournament, beginning on June 23 against Linafa U-17 Select, a Costa Rican club team.

Other scheduled opponents for the U.S. are Honduras (June 24), Costa Rica (June 25), Panamanian club side Chorrillo FC (June 26) and Mexico (June 27), as well as two possible playoff or friendly matches on June 29 and July 1.

A total of 16 players on the roster traveled to the 40th Mondial Minimes tournament in Montaigu, France, in early April. The U.S. earned a fifth-place finish in that tournament while winning three-of-four matches.

Nineteen of the 24 players are part of U.S. Soccer Development Academy clubs, with New York Red Bulls Academy sending four players.
