The homegrown contract can only be used on players that come from your academy. The initial contract doesn't count against the salary cap. The club can also recoup a larger percentage of transfers fees should the player be sold. Carleton's deal was a little unique. It actually doesn't start until 2017. It last until Carleton is 19 or 20. Carleton doesn't have the option of going to Europe until age 18, so this deal is structured to allow him to play with ATL United and be sold to Europe when he turns 18 and allow ATL/MLS to have leverage to get a transfer fee.
Just got US citizenship, but has been in US since age 8. Dad is former MLS MVP David Ferreira. Obviously is a boss to get signed at age 15. Some say he will be the best player on U16 team
Advocare is all over the MLS, they should really ditch that pyramid scheme and get some legit sponsors
It was just such a good opportunity with growth potential. I've heard they're trying to sell the USL and NASL on joining the Advocare team.
Taitague got named one of the top 60 under 18 prospects. Only US player this year. Haji continuing to be productive for Schalke's academy
U20 Girl's WC is going on. U.S. vs Mexico and there's twin sisters playing, one on each team. We obviously got the better one.
The U.S. U17 Men’s National Team is taking on Portugal, Turkey, and Brazil as part of the 2016 Nike International Friendlies in Lakewood Ranch, Florida this week. The U.S. opens up the event against Portugal on Wednesday. Check back with TDS throughout the week for exclusive coverage from the Nike International Friendlies as well as the Development Academy Showcase. U.S. U17 Men’s National Team Roster for the 2016 Nike International Friendlies GOALKEEPERS (3): Alexander Budnik (Sockers FC; Arlington Heights, Ill.), Carlos Joaquim Dos Santos (S.L. Benfica; Philadelphia, Penn.), Justin Garces (Kendall SC; Miami, Fla.) DEFENDERS (9): Carlos Asensio (Atlanta United; Roswell, Ga.), Ethan Bartlow (Crossfire Premier; Woodinville, Wash.), Sergino Dest (Ajax; Almere-stad, Netherlands), Christopher Gloster (New York Red Bulls; Montclair, N.J.), Jaylin Lindsey (Sporting Kansas City; Charlotte, N.C.), Carlo Ritaccio (BW Gottschee; Westbury, N.Y.), James Sands (New York City FC; Rye, N.Y.) Arturo Vasquez (FC Golden State; Mira Loma, Calif.), Chandler Vaughn (D.C. United; Woodbridge, Va.) MIDFIELDERS (6): George Acosta (Weston FC; Hollywood, Fla.), Isaac Angking (New England Revolution; Providence, R.I.), Christopher Durkin (D.C. United; Glen Allen, Va.), Blaine Ferri (Solar Chelsea SC; Southlake, Tex.), Rayshaun McGann (Philadelphia Union; Royal Palm Beach, Fla.), Indiana Vassilev (IMG Academy; Savannah, Ga.) FORWARDS (6): Ayomide Akinola (Toronto FC; Brampton, Ont.), Andrew Carleton (Atlanta United; Powder Springs, Ga.), Zyen Jones (Atlanta United; Clarkston, Ga.), Bryan Reynolds Jr. (FC Dallas; Little Elm, Tex.), Joshua Sargent (Scott Gallagher Missouri; O’Fallen, Mo.) Timothy Weah (Paris Saint-Germain F.C.; Rosedale, N.Y.)
Can't answer the first or last questions but he is good. Any time I have seen anything of him he looks fantastic
Weah has been playing and scoring a lot with PSG's U17's since he barely turned 15 iirc. Looks really good but from what I read it may be tough to pull him from France.
Also Josh Sargent has certainly been scoring a lot lately for the U17's. Anyone know what kind of a prospect he is?
U17's get Turkey tonight at 7 eastern. Portugal currently up 1-0 on Brazil. Question: Is this the same tournament from a couple years ago that slingshot Pulisic into elite prospect status?
Livestream: Back line has been sloppy and gave up an early goal. But we've been controlling play and just tied it up. Carleton has been really good on the ball and Akinola looks pretty fast and has good feet.
There are a lot of good athletic players on this team especially up top with Carleton (ATL), Sargent and Akinola (TOR) and Weah. It allows them to play the high press, force turnovers and create goals. Ferri and Durkin (DC) are really good in midfield as well. Durkin was a boss as a #6. U17 typically do really well in the Nike Friendlies and also won a Tournament in France. The performance of past teams seemed to peak around Nike Friendlies and go downhill from there. Hope this team is different. Last U17 had a ton of talent as well and barely qualified for WC and bombed out with Pusilic, Wright, etc.
I'm sure this team will draw comparisons to the 2013 team since that's the last team that won this tournament, (though they lost a game that year iirc and didn't look near as dominant) so it'll be interesting to see what kind of opportunities some of these guys get in Europe over the coming years compared to that team. Think that'll be the better gauge for this age group anyway. Obviously unlike Pulisic I don't know that there's anyone able to get a European passport- so it'll be a while- but of that team, you have Pulisic at dortmund, Olosunde at Man U, Perez at Fiorentina, Haji at Schalke, De La Torre at Fulham. Not sure if I'm forgetting anyone else.
U20 WCQ roster named. Probably had some Euro clubs that didn't release some players.
