In fairness to Birmingham City, they are shit and probably won't exist in their current capacity for much longer. They've been for sale for several years and have been in and out of administration in recent times. I won't miss them if and when it does happen.
Shawn Donnelly @ShawnDonnelly9 1m1 minute ago Landon Donovan: If US loses, fire Klinsmann http://es.pn/1VCXael LD has huge ax to grind, but he also has a good point... #usmnt #usavmex
He does make a great point, but im over the Jurgen/Landon beef and sick of Landon taking shots at every opportunity.
he's being paid to be an analyst you can't be mad when he makes a great point. it's not like this is unsolicited stuff he's tweeting out at random.
Honestly watching the video I felt like he was trying not to sound like it was just him being bitter so didn't want to just come out and say he should be fired if he lost. He wasn't saying this game is why he should be fired if we lose but was just saying the cumulative of the Gold Cup, how bad we looked against Brazil and then losing this match Frankly he did make a good point. If France looks poor in the Euros next Summer then plays one of their worst matches under DeChamps in a friendly shortly after what is his situation?
I agree there should be heat on JK with a loss but I don't agree he would be fired from say Australia if he got out of the group at the world cup and then had some struggles transitioning the squad. The USA isn't at France's talent level or really any of the top Euro/South American sides so not an apples to apples comparison. The gold cup is not the Euros though....World Cups are what matter here and building the program. Landon wants to fire JK for the loss to Brazil yet leaves out the wins over the summer @NED and @Germany? Kind of odd.
Tim Stillman @Stillberto 13s13 seconds agoView translation Tim Stillman Retweeted Plantão do Futebol Juan Carlos Osorio leaves São Paulo to take over as Mexico's new manager.
I think the point was that Jurgen wants the approach around here to be like that of the top Euro countries. Landon specifically mentioned the quote from Jurgen about wanting players to feel like they can't go out to the store the day after a loss without people questioning why they didn't play well.
I used Australia because it's a place that passionate about Sport. There would be heat on JK there and the players with poor performances but the board would have a bigger picture view.
The Gold Cup is the Euros for America, or at least the Confederations Cup is. Obviously the World Cup matters most but how many teams shit the bed in regional Cup competitions then go on to dominate in the World Cup? The way you build a program is by first dominating your region.
I don't think it is fair to compare the every 2 years gold cup with the Euros. You build the program toward the World Cup and the US doesn't always prioritize the gold cup because it is the year before and after a world cup. Dominating the region, I agree that should be the goal and they have for the most part.
Except if they lose this weekend it'll be 2 confed cups in a row they won't have qualified for. I don't give a shit about friendlies where the other team is playing their B or C squad and the US should qualify for the World Cup every time no matter what.
they did prioritize this Gold Cup though. you can't only judge the guy on 3-4 games every four years.
If anything I'd say we didn't prioritize the 2013 Gold Cup when we won 2015 we had some injuries but we called in the strongest lineup we could (By Jurgens top choice guys)
Here's the Gold Cup roster. I was thinking we had injuries but maybe not. I've tried to block it from my mind. That is making it a priority
Plus when I watch our games my eyes tell me we aren't any better than we were when he took over. I see the same stagnant attack but an even worse defense than when Bradley left.
Im more concerned with Jurgen as technical director + seeing through that we qualify for the U-23 olympics than I am our result on Saturday. Jmo. But I think all the criticism Jurgen is facing in both of his capacities is warranted at this point. Just think if Sunil was going to make a move, it would have been done asap after the Jamaica match.
I'm still a Jurgen supporter and agree that the Olympics is more important but I do think missing Confederations Cup again coming off a bad Gold Cup is bad and he should be feeling some pressure if that happens
yes, totally agree. I'd judge him on the entire body of work including World Cup qualification matches, friendlies, Gold Cup and the World Cup with varying degrees of importance. I think there are many things JK can do better but I take issue with Landon Donovan cherry picking a small sample and mentioning a friendly against Brazil while deliberately excluding other friendly results.
Sure, because we have the same players from the Bradley era from the most part, they're just older. The USMNT is between generations right now and Jurgen can't just create American players for our player pool out of thin air (although he is trying by checking every German birth certificate for evidence of US DNA). It also doesn't help that many of our best players left Europe to come to MLS against his wishes. They're not getting better playing MLS, they're getting worse. I'm not saying Jurgen doesn't deserve some criticism, especially all the lineup tinkering, but he has a few things going against him that he can't control. Bob Bradley or Bruce Arena wouldn't do any better.
Guys like Bradley and Altidore should be in their prime now and they look like they haven't progressed at all. Clint Dempsey was in his late 20's for a lot of Jurgen's run. These aren't guys that are in their mid-30s
I think that this... Would cover that. There's a reason Jurgen has been so critical of the move to MLS by the guys you say look like they haven't progressed
That isn't giving Jurgen a free pass just saying you're quoting a post talking about guys coming to the MLS and getting worse then saying well those guys don't look like they're progressing. That was part of his point
JK as TD is just a title. People who are actually involved with youth development in this country will tell you that JK has had basically zero involvement with it. Youth development in this country will be led by the MLS academies.
Jurgen's involvement is overall positive because at the very least, it adds some sort of critical credibility to US Soccer. Not many other people available could come in that the public would look at and say "yea...this guy understands there are top-level philosophical problems that need changing".. Now...is he the best "X's and O's" tactical guy? Probably not. But who else can come in, criticize US Soccer, and people would listen? And by people i dont just mean within US Soccer but even Joe Schmo youth soccer coach guy. I just think Jurgen has influence so let his message continue to get out. I dont know why anyone expected such a radical change with the same players when we all know our system needs work.
No earthly idea. But at least they probably know who Jurgen is and are at least probably paying attention. Maybe maybe US Soccer should be publishing more guides "COACHING WITH JURGEN!!!" or something for youth coaching with his German ideals. I dont know. But he absolutely has more influence than anyone else you could think of bringing in. It shows US Soccer is at least serious.
this is totally random, but I think it's a microcosm of what is wrong with the youth coaching in this country. I had a guy I work with, who was a pretty good player in his day and is now a successful high school and club coach locally, call Mesut Ozil "a poor man's Berbatov" yesterday. granted, he's a United fan and it was partly sour grapes from the weekend, but I didn't even know how to respond it was such an absurd comparison - especially coming from someone with so much experience in soccer. I pressed him on it a little bit and he just kept getting back to lack of hustle and lack of goals as if there is nothing else an attacking player can offer. and like I said, I know for a fact the guy is a successful coach. he probably has his teams play a very practical style that gets results and has little creativity. he's probably produced some solid defensive players and maybe a center forward here or there but very little attacking otherwise. I think this style is probably very common in the youth ranks throughout the country where results are deemed so important. I don't want to say go the t-ball route and not keep score or anything like that, but I think style of play needs to be emphasized more than results. in that way I think the size of the country creates a huge problem because it's hard to have one style or even reach most of these coaches. it's a cultural issue more than anything and I don't know what Jurgen or anyone else can do to change it. sorry for the rant just some thoughts brought up by a ridiculous comment.
thats the money sentence. coaches probably love acting smart and brag about enforcing a 4-4-2 wide diamond formation for their son's U6 team.
I coach u6 for a fairly large club who has partners with euro clubs. As a volunteer coach I'm basically given direction from the European leagues and guides. No mention of the USMNT or US Soccer has ever been mentioned. We "don't keep score", but the parents and kids do (we are undefeated in 3 seasons by an average score of 15-3....humble brag...yes it's my son's team. Yes it's co-ed, yes half the team pick's their nose and dances in circles.

AJ out 3 weeks with a hip injury : / Aron Johannsson won't be playing any time soon. The forward has been diagnosed with a nerve irritation in his right hip and will keep him out for at least three weeks. There is no timetable for his return. Johannsson hasn't played since September 22 because of the injury to his hip. The problem kept him from being selected to the United States team for the CONCACAF Cup and, this week, Werder Bremen sent him to Berlin to be looked at by a doctor. The diagnosis of a nerve irritation is a complicated one and doesn't have a hard and fast timeline for recovery. Werder Bremen said that Johannsson "will be treated in a conservative manner" and ruled him out of their next two matches against Bayer Leverkusen and Hannover. How long he will be out depends on how his hip responds to treatment. He could be available again in three weeks or this could become a long-term problem. Johannsson had two goals in his first six matches for Bremen until suffering his injury. With the forward unavailable, Jurgen Klinsmann called in Jozy Altidore, Clint Dempsey, Chris Wondolowski and Gyasi Zardes for the CONCACAF Cup, but Zardes has been used more on the wing than up top for the U.S. If Johannsson is out for an extended period, it will test an American forward corps that is thin to begin with.
Think US soccer worked with former players because they've been retweeting a bunch of guys today who are doing throwback Thursday pics of themselves vs Mexico in dos a cero matches Chris Henderson Taylor Twellman Brian Ching Brad Friedel Alexi Lalas Marcelo Balboa Claudio Reyna Brian McBride Brad Evans did one and the Columbus Crew tweeted that they know a few things about USA vs Mexico with a pic of Gregg Berhalter who is now our manager Pretty cool and worth a look at the US Soccer Twitter account
@SoccerByIves: Klinsmann confirms Alejandro Bedoya can't play vs. Mexico due to illness. Bobby Wood replaces him . #USMNT
