of course you can, I just didn't particularly find the nexus between influential and this dude thinking they are unlistenable compelling. I'll stay out of it though, as I have no dog in the fight, that music isn't my cup of tea but I certainly wouldn't call it unlistenable and would probably sing along if back in black came on the radio.
I don't really like listening to the Beatles. But I can understand the huge importance that they had on the music that came out after them. Sort of the way I feel about old movies - If you go back and watch them they can really suck by today's standards. But you have to appreciate that we wouldn't have what exists today without them.
Yeah that's another for me as well. I like some of their songs here and there but they don't blow my mind but they blow a lot of people's mind that I respect their opinion
I had a meathead moron football coach who loved AC/DC so it played incessantly in the weight room for 4 years so it's mostly a me thing. I still can't help but unconsciously connect their music to the worst ~50-60 year old white guy you know.
this is how I am with a lot of the culture I take in, I don't really care as much for the source or influence but I appreciate that they were there to help along the stuff I do like today.
the environment and atmosphere are part of the sport and experience. If you’re saying the level in which the games are played well duh of course they are but there is more to the sport than just the product on the court/field.
The biggest reason why I prefer college sports over pro sports is that college sports represent something bigger than the team. College athletes are representing a school or, in the case of many large public universities, a state, and that means something to people. The team is not separable from the institution. Pro sports claim to be like that, but they aren't really. The Knicks would leave New York tomorrow if they thought they'd make 30% more money in Branson, Missouri. Of course, they wouldn't, so they don't leave, but it's hard to really feel like a sports team represents anything other than a large corporation once you've seen a handful of teams pack up and leave the city they claim to represent. That's part of the reason that large market teams tend to be more popular than smaller market teams.
the reason I personally prefer college to pro is simple. I attended UCLA it will always be part of me and my experience on earth. I understand how nerdy that sounds but if you know my life story you’ll know how big a deal it was for me to get accepted there and finish. On the other hand I’ll never play for the Broncos. I can say we when I refer to them but my connection to the team and the city is minuscule.
And that's all I'm getting at. UCLA the athletics program represents UCLA the institution of higher learning. The Denver Broncos are a franchise of the National Football League that happens to be located in Denver. The rest is just marketing.
this reminds me, i find pure random chance events leading to loyalty weird af like being born somewhere
are you loyal because you were born there or are you loyal because that was the team available to you in your formative years? the team you saw live, the team that was on your tv at night, the team your dad liked, your friends liked, everyone talked about...
sports fandom is inherently silly, i'm talking more about insane state based, regional, or even country based fanaticism
In general Southern Miss is my favorite thing to cheer for of any level, but as a whole I prefer pro sports. I guess since I have a real connection to the university it makes them my favorite team at any level. But I’m watching more random pro sports than random college teams play.
The NFL is trash. I watch it because I’m a sports junky, but if it went away tomorrow, I would hardly blink as long as CFB still existed.
Team Bo Pelinis. He said ACDC is unlistenable; I agree because that shit has been run in the ground. Yeah they made some classic songs. Doesn't mean I want to listen to it. Also, they're a bit formulaic...
The fact that you still feel bombarded with it 41 years after their biggest album came out kind of proves my point of its cultural relevance
Ok that doesn't change the cultural impact. I don't really get how you can't differentiate personal taste with cultural impact. It's really inarguable.
Cultural impact doesn't really mean much to me tbh. Larry the Cable Guy created a phrase that almost everyone in the United States knows and he sucks.
I shotgunned out a bunch of takes yesterday and really didn't think AC/DC blowing goats would be the one that caught the most flak
I think most people won't know who he is in 10 years. I don't think a lot of people know now. Anyway I think it's ridiculous to think your opinion is the only one that matters.
I don't think that and I've never said that. If you love Angus you listen to Angus until the cows come home. I just don't think cultural relevance is any sort of valuable metric. Lots of culturally relevant things are/were awful.
I literally did not and in fact said it was a me thing toward the top of the page Redav if you love AC/DC so much why don't you marry it
Saying you don't care about cultural relevance and that most people's taste sucks is like exactly that. Sorry it's just sort of a pet peeve of mine with music that a lot of people do and I'll stop blowing up the thread.
It’s wild AC/DC was able to find a second singer that sounded just like the first guy. How many leather lung voices are out there like that
Because I think AC/DC sucks. I didn't say you can't like them. And I said most peoples' taste sucks because cultural relevance doesn't matter to me. That's like saying people love Coke. Yeah I know but that doesn't tell me anything. I still might think it sucks but that's ok man we all like different stuff. Like, I also think Maroon 5 sucks and am also bombarded by their music and know people like them I assume
His voice is completely trashed now. He had one of those voices you could tell wouldn't age will but like his entire high register is gone. I mean he's like 70 so I guess it stands to reason
Do people actually go to Applebees because it tastes good? I always figured it was just because they weren't paying attention and didn't realize what they were doing until it was too late.
