Today I learned that this guy is Tim Russ, most notably Tuvok from Star Trek Voyager I miss you Joe_Pesci
US voter turnout in the presidential election was ~80% til about 1900 Then dropped to ~60% from 1900-1970 Has hovered between 50-55% since Bonus: Voter participation has only dropped below 50% once. What year? Spoiler 1996 Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voter_turnout_in_the_United_States_presidential_elections
He was supposed to be on the plane that crashed but gave his seat to someone else on the tour because they had the flu. Pretty sure it bothered him for the rest of his life.
Most definitely. When I learned he was Buddy's bassist, I read that sad story too. But it's cooler to call it quits at being buddy holly's bassist.
I learned that Norway has cheaper prescription drugs than the US due to Norway having one buyer for all scripts, and that buyer exercises negotiating power. The biggest US buyer, Medicare, is forbidden, by statute, from negotiating prescription prices.
I also learned that in 2008, the FCC accidentally sold the frequency that the B-2 Stealth Bomber uses for it's low probability of intercept radar to a commercial user. The result is that a lot of money has been spent to install new radar arrays to replace it.
I found a site called http://www.cardpool.com/ and mailed off two gift cards I will never use, ever. The original amt of the two cards was $200 and cardpool "I hope" will be sending me a check for $155.50. I now believe this site is a scam now and I will never see the returned check after reading various reviews online (I know I should have done this prior to shipping them). Some of them include: KELLYTASH 1/5 2015-12-01 "RULE #1 OF THE INTERNET DO NOT EVER TRUST A WEBSITE WITHOUT A PHONE NUMBER ON THE CONTACT US PAGE. IF THEY DONT HAVE A PHONE NUMBER THEY ARE NOT WORTH IT AND ARE A SCAM. CARD POOL IS A SCAM. CARDCASH IS WAYYY BETTER I HATE CARDPOOL." Tak123 1/5 2015-11-24 "I sent in $1,000 worth of gift cards 3 weeks ago and I still have not received a check from them. They said they have not received yet the cards yet. I have never heard of 3 weeks to deliver a envelope. I would never sell to them again and I am hoping I see my money soon. If you do choose to sell to them them, make sure you do not use there label, spend the extra money to track your package." belgiumeg6 1/5 2015-06-26 "Cardpool sucks don't waste your time said they would get things to you within 3-7 business days but its more like 3-7 business WEEKS. After taking more then 10 percent of what you sell the least they can do is provide tracking numbers but nope another 3-7 business WEEKS they said. I don't think ill ever get my money should have check the BBB website first. " So in short FUCK.
IIRC there's an app that is made for the purpose of selling gift cards and is legitimate. Once these honest people give you your giftcards back with an apology letter, just download Raise App
They have a machine in my supermarket that does the same thing. I always assumed they'd give me pennies on the dollar and never used it but if I get anywhere over 2/3, I'd give it a go.
Did you purchase a card or sell card(s)? If you sold one how long did it take cardpool to receive the cards? The postage they provided does not have a tracking #. I should have paid for postage rather than the free postage you're emailed once you submit your order. I sent the cards out on 12/28, still nothing and supposedly it's first class according to the site. There is no phone number for cardpool, so I'm never going to see this "check" FML I pretty much receive the same response each time I request the status of the order. Spoiler: Automated response Hello, Thank you for following up. The transactions are processed in the order in which they are received. According to our records, our processing center has not received your mail yet for the transaction #XXXXXXXXX. Your mail may have reached our Processing Center but may still be in queue to be processed. We want to reassure you of the elongated shipping time - please be advised that the USPS First Class Mail is estimated to take 3-7 business days. While USPS provides this estimate, they do not guarantee delivery within that time frame and we've been informed that mail can sometimes take up to 3 weeks to deliver if it is misrouted or has to be returned to the sender. For your future reference, as we have suggested in your confirmation email, if you would like to send us gift cards of particularly high value or more gift cards than the prepaid shipping label can afford, we recommend that you use a different shipping method that allows you to track the delivery of the package for your own peace of mind. Please be advised that our free shipping labels do not contain a tracking feature so we will be unable to locate your mail during transit. Please remember that it is the customer's responsibility to ensure that we receive the gift cards. We do not offer payment for any gift cards that we do not receive. Upon receipt of your mail and verification of the gift card(s), they will provide you with further updates on the status of your transaction. Please feel free to stay in touch with us if you have any other questions or concerns. Thank you for choosing Cardpool.com and have a nice day. Best Regards, Alexi Cardpool.com In another email I asked Alexi to respond that she is not a robot. Spoiler: Alexi is not a bot Good morning, Thank you for following up with us. TIL that Leslie Howard (Ashley Wilkes from Gone with the Wind) was killed on a spy mission during WWII. His unescorted plane was shot down by Germans. The Germans knew who was on the flight and what his mission was, and the British knew that they knew (Bletchley Park codebreakers) but to protect the secret of them knowing how to break German codes they didn't intervene in the attack.
Until yesterday, I was totally unaware that chipotle peppers are simply jalapeños that have been dried and smoked. It makes perfect sense now though given that they're roughly the size of a shrunken jalapeño and have a rich, smokey flavor.
Might have been mentioned already in here somewhere, but I learned that Women's College Basketball plays 4 quarters. I though they were 2 halfs?
In astrophysics, spaghettification (sometimes referred to as the noodle effect[1]) is the vertical stretching and horizontal compression of objects into long thin shapes (rather like spaghetti) in a very strong non-homogeneous gravitational field; it is caused by extreme tidal forces. In the most extreme cases, near black holes, the stretching is so powerful that no object can withstand it, no matter how strong its components. Within a small region the horizontal compression balances the vertical stretching so that small objects being spaghettified experience no net change in volume. Stephen Hawking[2] describes the flight of a fictional astronaut who, passing within a black hole's event horizon, is "stretched like spaghetti" by the gravitational gradient (difference in strength) from head to toe. However, the term "spaghettification" was established well before this.[3]
I learned that this arrow tells you which side of the car the gas cap is on, so if you're in a rental/unfamiliar car you will know which side it's on if you didn't look before. Why in the hell didn't I know this?
I always assumed Alf was some sort of elaborate puppet, never a small Hungarian man in a costume. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.ya...u-meszaros-dead-165000085.html?client=safari#
I was just listening to TED radio hour about lying/cheating and unsurprisingly Enron comes up. I learned that John Perry Barlow, a lyricist for Grateful Dead, later became an Enron consultant.
Gaius Appuleius Diocles was an ancient Hispano-Roman, a Lusitanian of the 2nd century AD, Emerita Augusta, born In Lamecum (current Lamego) belonging to Emerita Augusta, capital of Lusitania at 104 AD (now Mérida, Spain), died in Praeneste, (present Palestrina, Italy) and lived at Lamego (Douro Portugal) where he lived his childhood with his father who worked and owned a transport business. His first renowned victory outside of Lusitania (actual Portugal) was in Ilerda (now Lleida, Catalonia, Spain). This success gave him international fame and encouraged him go to Rome. He is known as the Lamecus and thereby brought fame and renown to the city of Lamego. Within the city, they erected a statue on top the fountain in front of the garden, known as Jardim do Campo, located in the centre of town. You can still see the tile panel painted by the famous painter Jorge Colaco where he portrays Diocles fitness as the supreme racing athlete driving quadrigas racing chariots. At age 18, he began driving for the White team. After six years, at the age of 24, he switched to the Green team. After three years there, at age 27, he finally began driving for the Red team until his retirement at age 42. Diocles’ career was unusually long—many charioteers died quite young. He most commonly raced four-horse chariots, and most of his races he came from behind to win. Diocles is also notable for owning an extremely rare ducenarius, or a horse that had won at least 200 races. Records show that he won 1,462 out of the 4,257 four-horse races he competed in.[1] His winnings reportedly totaled 35,863,120 sesterces, an amount which could provide a year's supply of grain to the entire city of Rome, or pay the Roman army at its height for a fifth of a year. Classics professor Peter Struck describes him as "the best paid athlete of all time".[2]
http://www.ksl.com/index.php?sid=42...1996-byu-football-season-was-it-the-best-ever In 1996 BYU went 14-1 when the regular season was only 11 games. There QB was a young, and presumably sober Steve Sarkisian.
Didn't see it mentioned in the article after scanning it, but how'd they get to 15 games with only 11 regular season. I assume there was a conference title game and a bowl game, which would make 13 games. Where's the 14 and 15th games coming from?
And told them "Hope your damned ol' airplane crashes", words that haunted him the rest of his days according to Jessi Colter....
http://nypost.com/2014/03/02/hotel-hermit-got-17m-to-make-way-for-15-central-park-west/ This is a great story.
BYU was able to play 15 games because of NCAA rules that are no longer in place. Firstly, a team was able to play a designated "kickoff" opening game and not have it count against the allowed game total, then they played at Hawaii which didn't count against the allowed total.
http://www.fbschedules.com/2014/03/the-hawaii-exemption-2014-edition/ The Hawaii Rule was still around as recently as 2014. Not sure if they got rid of it though.
