Agreed. I never thought I'd read a fantasy series I enjoyed more than Harry Potter. But honestly, this blows HP out of the water.
Here's an interesting one I haven't seen discussed yet. I'm not all the way through the post yet. This is all hazy to me bc I hardly remember any of the details of ADWD - http://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/topic/69815-piecing-together-varys-as-a-blackfyre/
I haven't read it in length, but I remember thinking at the time that the Varys-Blackfyre thing was a bit of a stretch.
Also, it may be in this thread, but I think the idea that Jon Snow could be named after Jon Connington just further reinforces R+L=J.
I haven't put it together completely in my mind, but it seems unlikely GRRM would give them the same name out of coincidence.
That Varys theory is one of the few theories I've put together on my own w/o reading other opinions. There has to be something more behind Varys' clipping too.
Completely different. GRRM is so more detailed and there are 1000s of moving pieces. JKR wrote some great books that had an entirely different feel. I will not shed a tear no matter what happens in ASOIAF... I'll gladly admit that I teared up reading parts of HP. Just different foci. Both are excellent.
What happens to the "Kingslayer" when his child/niece/nephew return? Is Jaime forgiven? His whole arc in ASOIAF has been one of redemption.
Some guy on here thinks he will eventually take the black and be the 1000th Lord Commander. I don't really know, but that would be cool. At this point, I think he is in love with Brienne and she has taken him to see Lady Stonehart.
he left something for Jon to read. he said he left a book in his room and marked a particular chapter that he thinks would interest him. IIRC, it was about a boy king or a young lord commander or something like that.
It's hard to even compare the two. Though to me, the best ASOIAF book (Storm) is a million times better than the best Harry Potter book (Azkaban or Hallows). But the worst Harry Potter book is better than the worst ASOIAF book (AFFC). HP didn't really have a weak link in the series.
HP is pretty clearly good vs. evil, while ASoIaF has that fight happen inside each character. This is much more intriguing for me.
yep. tho i was admittedly younger then. i thought it was really sad when sirius died, not in the actual moment but when he gets his hopes up to see him again in the mirror, and then again when he thinks he might become a ghost. also when dumbledore died. again, not in the moment, but his funeral.
yep. Loved harry potter but they're completely different. Toy Story is awesome but I don't know how i'd rate it against the Best Picture winner.
Jon won't know until after he's been fucking dany that she's his aunt. Will struggle with it, eventually will get back to beating it up. Kinda think the dragons are lightbringer. Tyrion, Varys, Aegon are Targ bastards.
So who thinks Littlefinger was behind Ashara Dayne's death as revenge against Brandon(or Eddard)? I don't know exactly what I believe about the whole Dayne/Stark shennanigans af the dance, things leading up to war, and post war events... But I'll be damned if Littlefinger didn't have his hand in exacting his revenge against Brandon in some self-righteous way.
Interesting theory, but I don't think Littlefinger was in a position to hurt Dayne. He wasn't in Kings Landing at this point, plus he was only a heir to a minor lordship. I read somewhere Brandon had a tryst with Ashara first, but she really loved Ned. I definitely don't buy the "jumping into the sea" story. I don't know if she's live or anything, but there's more to the story.
Yeah I think Brandon dishonored her by taking her V card and bouncing. My buddy said that some people think she's Quaithe.
She's the septa with Aegon. Purple eyes, bro. Would love to hear what evidence there is that she is Quaithe.
This is what I thought about Ashara as well. I don't know why she would have to fake a suicide though.
It might be a little long-winded but Arthur was bff with Rhaegar. Maybe they knew she'd be watched/courted so they faked her death like Jon Connington's?
Varys had Jon Connington "killed" because he had to help Aegon. This was a couple years after Robert's Rebellion. Ned went to Dorne less than a year after the sack of King's Landing. I don't know if Varys could have told Ashara or have formed a plan so quickly.
She n her family were close with Targs and she's helping Dany on her way. Also she was described as having eyes that look like they were wet/glossy and starry. I didn't even think about it till they said so. ======== That septa idea sounds better to me. U think that is where Dany will be betrayed for love by Barristan?
