he's a switch hitter so I'm hoping he'll play at least 3-4 times a week right now and hopefully give Esky a break
I really don't see what Mondesi can do right now that Colon couldn't do, besides steal bags. Colon is a career .280/.342 OBP hitter at the Major League level. Granted, he has no power and isn't really a running threat but he's not gonna kill us out there if he plays every day and hits ninth. I'm really excited to watch Mondesi but I think this just feels rushed. How is he supposed to progress with his hitting approach when he is continually rushed through the minors?
I know I'm dreaming here but maybe we're lucky and they're thinking of trading esky before next year. Move Cuthbert to 2nd. I dunno.
I already want to kill myself with all the "Lindor never hit in the minors" comments. Lindors like the only example of a player hitting better at the MLB level. Quit expecting it with RMJ.
Gotta love the blind optimists. Mondesi has 453 K's in 418 career minor league games. Lindor had 264 K's in 416 career minor league games. One of those guys had a Major League-ready approach. The other is not quite ready for the bigs.
This has to be it. Which is why Whit was essentially handed the 2B job after Infante was let go and why they're calling up Mondesi to presumably play 2B since Whit fell apart.
Feels like misdirection to me. "Hey guys, stop asking us why we're sucking and how we're going to fix it when we just won the damn world series, and also hey look we called up our top prospect, talk about that!"
It's too late of a move to be for showcase purposes, isn't it? As in, dangling him in front of other teams as trade bait.
yes plus we aren't really in the position to be giving up a prospect like mondesi, especially when the future of our 2B/SS is uncertain
If they were showcasing him then they wouldn't be exposing him to Major League pitching. Gotta think he's as close to untouchable as it gets in our system. He's our everyday SS, possibly as soon as next season if we let Esky walk.
dozier might be expendable if they feel cuthbert can hold down 3B and they can resign moose and/or hosmer. moose probably has a future at 1B
brb gonna go find a gif of a rollercoaster derailing, then exploding, then a bunch of gypsies coming to piss on the fire.
who would've thought that trotting out Dillon Gee, Chris Young and then Wang would lead to less than positive results
Was at tonight's game, it was not tight. Expecting to hear more trade rumors in the next couple days.
Perhaps Papelbon blowing another save will make the Nats more eager to acquire a closer, such as Wade. Dusty has already said he doesn't know what he's going to do at closer now. I love Wade but this team is going to be awful after 2017 and we need to replenish the farm with some guys who will be ready in 1-2 years. If we could somehow snag a Joe Ross + Trea Turner + Robles, I think we gotta do it.
Only problem with Morales and Esky is that I'm not sure there is a market for them. All of the potential playoff teams are set at SS. If a team were terrible defensively at SS then I could see some interest in a non-hitting Esky, but that doesn't seem to be the case. All of the potential playoff AL teams are set at DH and I don't see an NL team giving up anything significant for a pinch hitter for the playoffs.
I guess Texas could potentially want Morales. They just called up Gallo and he started at 1B last night so it probably depends on whether or not he hits for them. They've been mixing and matching 1B/DH all season. Profar has seen some time at 1B as well.
If there was a return I guess. Problem is we need someone to pitch the rest of the year. We only have 4 starters right now. Minor and medlen are in purgatory. We have little to no farmhand pitching that can fill in.
MLB.com scenario write up Spoiler Edinson Volquez makes a ton of sense for Texas, and not just because he was so effective (one run over six innings) against the Rangers over the weekend. Volquez has Texas ties, having initially been signed by the club out of the Dominican Republic and made his debut with the Rangers in 2005. He's having an inconsistent season, but his Fielding Independent Pitching mark is nearly half a run lower than his ERA, and he gets a lot of ground balls. Kendrys Morales is a rental, too, and he's rebounded from a rough start to the year to post a .352/.423/.656 slash going back to the middle of June. Though the Rangers might ultimately value a more versatile player like Pearce, given the injuries that have hampered Shin-Soo Choo in the outfield, Morales would be a perfect fill-in for the injured Prince Fielder. And in the bullpen, Texas could make a play for another pending free agent in Luke Hochevar. The key question: Could the Rangers do a double dip with Kansas City without giving up Jurickson Profar, Joey Gallo or Lewis Brinson?
Boddicker said that on 810. He wouldn't name a source or give any info other than he heard it "through the grapevine". Unless we double our highest contract ever I don't see Boras letting Hos do that.
That's what Strasburg did so it's not unimaginable even with a Boras client. The Nationals paid him $175 million though.
You're joking right? Gordon just got a 4 year contract at $18 million per and it was considered he took a hometown discount. You think Hosmer is going to sign for 2 years longer at $3 million less per year? Boras is leaking that they want 10 years and $200 million. No way he gets that but it's going to be close to $150, someone out there will pay that.
Whatever the "it" factor is that scouts love to talk about, RMJ seems to have it. He's got a long way to go but there's definitely talent there. Even with the 0-fer yesterday I thought his ABs looked good. Same with the errors, you can tell he's got defensive skill and obvious elite speed. If he can add some muscle to his frame without losing a ton of speed/range he should be a good one.
Side note: was that the least impressive 4-RBI game of all time? A well-executed sacrifice bunt that exploded all over the Angels' tits, and then a swinging bunt...that also exploded all over the Angels' tits.
It was absurd how long those umps let him rant. Let him say his initial point and rave a bit, then either get him back to the dugout or eject him. No one came to the park or turned on the TV to watch Mike Scioscia gesticulate emphatically.
@JeffPassan: Sources: Royals trying to package Ian Kennedy in a potential Wade Davis deal. Dodgers a strong match. Covet Davis and can take on Kennedy $.
Omg that would be amazing. No way they'd give up Urias but they've got quite a few really nice OF and pitching prospects. Lose wade (rip), get rid of the bad Kennedy signing and get a few promising studs. Yes please.
An ace with 3.5 years of control is much different than a closer with 1.5 years of control. Also, I pray that Puig wouldn't somehow be involved in any potential deal with LAD.
yeah right u don't know would be nice to have someone with a little power but I'm sure dayton would rather target thompson if they were gonna get an OF
