Re: World Cup Rosters Thread England's World Cup preparations have been hit by a new injury worry after defender Stephen Warnock limped out of training on Thursday. The Aston Villa left-back twisted his ankle during the session and is now doubtful for England's friendly against Japan in Graz on Sunday, a match in which he was likely to play some part as coach Fabio Capello chooses between him and Leighton Baines as Ashley Cole's deputy in the position.

Re: World Cup Rosters & News Thread (German 23-man squad & Camoranesi injured) hahahaha what a fag!!! this is truly great news...gonna make a thread.
Re: World Cup Rosters & News Thread (German 23-man squad & Camoranesi injured) #1 Michael Neur #2 Marcell Jansen #17 Per Mertesacker #3 Arne Fredrich #16 Phillip Lahm #6 Sami Khedira #15 Piotr Trochowski #8 Mesut Ozil #7 Bastien Schweinsteiger #10 Lukas Podolski #11 Miroslov Klose with Sami Khedira playing half CDM, half central midfielder as Lahm will undoubtedly pull up, Podolski join as a second striker, and Schweinsteiger scooch over as a winger. So it's a 4-5-1 that can flip into a traditional german 4-4-2 easily. the obvious concerns are youth, experience, and no real established defensive midfielder. one could also ask questions of the CBs, but mertesacker has played well and friedrich is typically german (sucks at club, overplays for country), so im going to give them the benefit of the doubt until they concede goals. is how i think Germany rolls out its starting 11, with - #5 Serdar Tasci the principle CB sub - #4 Dennis Aogo the principle sub for Jansen - #21 Marko Marin the principle sub for Trochowski and best candidate for "super sub" - #18 Toni Kroos the principle sub for the other 3 midfield positions striker is the most interesting, as Stephan Kießling was given the #9 shirt, although shirt numbers mean less for the German team than basically any other national side (Klinnsman was 18, Ballack 13, and there's no history of a #10) and some media have reported that he's struggled in training. id still prefer he and definitely Cacau or even #13 Thomas Müller to take Klose's spot should he struggle to find form over #23 Mario Gomez tbh age note: - Michael Neur is 24 - Phillip Lahm is 26 - Per Mertesacker is 25 - Serdar Tasci is 23 - Marcell Jansen is 24 - Dennis Aogo is 23 - Piotr Trochowski is 26 - Mesut Ozil is 21 - Bastien Schweinsteiger is 25 - Lukas Podolski is 25 - Marko Marin is 21 - Toni Kroos is 20 - Thomas Muller is 20 - Stephan Kiessling is 25 so the obvious strategy for the germans is youth, speed, and creativity over experience. and it appears they're really gearing for the 2012 euro's and 2014 world cup more than anything
Re: World Cup Rosters & News Thread (German 23-man squad & Camoranesi injured) early indications are that for holland ibrahim affelay could be starting over both rafael van der vaart and dirk kuijt making the starting XI look like: #1 Maarten Stekelenburg #2 Gregory van der Wiel #3 Johnny Heitinga #4 Joris Matthijsen #5 Giovanni van Bronckhorst #6 Mark van Bommel #8 Nigel de Jong #11 Arjen Robben #10 Wesley Sneijder #9 Ibrahim Affelay #9 Robin van Persie First subs: GK: Michel Vorm CD: Andre Ooijer or Khalid Boularouz RB: Khalid Boularouz LB: Edson Braafheid the 2 DM spots: Demy de Zeeuw the 2 winger spots: any of Rafael vd Vaart, Dirk Kuijt or Eljiro Elia (pretty jizzable depth here) the #10: Rafael vd Vaart or kicking Affelay inside and inserting another winger Striker: Either Dirk Kuijt or Klaas Jan Huntelaar Basicly every spot on the 11 is penciled in outside of who the third offensive midfielder is to start alongside sneijder and robben.
Re: World Cup Rosters & News Thread (German 23-man squad & Camoranesi injured) "England's World Cup squad is oldest ever Fabio Capello's England squad is the oldest and most capped ever sent by the nation to the World Cup. Despite the absence through injury of 35-year-old David Beckham, Capello's squad still average out at 28.7 years old. That beats the previous record set in 1954, according to The Guardian, when the presence of 39-year-old Stanley Matthews lifted the average age to 28.4 years." http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/blogs/world-of-sport/article/5187/

Didier Drogba will rejoin the Ivory Coast World Cup squad on Monday after weekend surgery on a fractured arm. However, it is still not clear whether the African Footballer of the Year will be fit to play in the opening Group G match against Portugal in Port Elizabeth next week. Drogba fractured the ulna, or inner bone, of his right forearm in a warm-up match against Japan in Switzerland on Friday, the federation said. The striker had surgery in Berne on Saturday, an operation Swiss doctors described as successful. A statement from the Ivorian federation said Drogba would rejoin his team mates at their Swiss hotel on Monday.
The latest on Gareth Barry's injury courtesy of the News of the World's Neil Ashton: "I've been told I'm not playing v USA to give me more time, back in full training with team from tmrw."
I dont know if I like the news or not. If England replaces him with Carrick then I like it. If they put Milner in, then I dont like it. If they move Gerrard to Barry's spot and put SWP, A. Johnson or even Milner on the left I dont like it either.
