xavi may not play in the group stage with a torn calf muscle

    then there's fagregas' issue

    and torres'

if you take xavi away from spain they lose like half of their power, no wonder they've struggled so badly in friendlies

also didnt know chile ran a 3-4-3

    wild

"El Loco" Bielsa runs a 3-4-3 where 2 of the mids help a lot on defense. Actually everybody including wingers help a lot on defense. His style is very disciplined and players know exactly where to be at all times. He also never backs down and came out on attack even in away matches during qualifiers....really like the confidence it provides the team but it scares me sometimes with teams that are able to beat defense or are patient enough to not get too flustered. Also toward the end of the game when the team is tired is hard to keep coming back and helping and mental lapses have caused a few goals.

The Spain news is good news for Chile though so I am not mad at all.

yeah i read the espn breakdown of chile, it says that they basically have only 1 holding midfielder in addition to the 3 defenders and use 6 attack minded players to try and outnumber the defense quickly

p cool strategy imo, though risky. should provide some entertaining games

kinda pissed about all of spain's injury woes because without them they're one of the greatest national teams in history, and id loved to have seen them at their apogee play portugol and then brazil, very interesting match ups

Chilean. I played FIFA WC the other day at a friends and for some reason chose Chile. Do they really run a 3-4-3? I didn't think to mess with formation and what not, and was getting diced up

Yea they do but like I said we have a holding mid and all mid/wingers are expected to help back. When I do play with CHile I either change the formation or if I do run the 3-4-3 I play on defensive tactic. Plus the starting XI on the game is really messed up so I move players a lot.

jogi low released a starting 11 (at this point) for germany

he's confident miroslav klose will find his form, but if he doesn't, hopefully cacau is starting by the end of the group stage

mario gomez is apparently on fire in practice, but all that means is that he's on fire in practice given his shit performances during actual games

shown are position battles, not subs. for example, marko marin would sub for any number of forward positions

I would prefer Marin to Muller, but I guess Low likes Marin off the bench

Muller did look good against Bosnia though

yeah the theory is that marin being 5'5 130 pounds is too small to start against fresh and physical peeps

but coming off the bench against tired defenders he's a good asset

i hope they can get back into form. i don't care if they win or lose, but they play some very entertaining football and it would be a shame to see them exit so early.

JOHANNESBURG, June 8 (Reuters) - Portugal winger Nani was ruled out of the World Cup on Tuesday with a left shoulder injury, the federation said in a statement.
"After tests we conclude he is unfit to participate in the World Cup," it said. Nani picked up the injury in training on Friday in Lisbon before flying to South Africa.

    Iniesta may miss opener:

"Midfielder Andres Iniesta is a doubt for Spain's World Cup opener against Switzerland after a scan on his right thigh, according to the Spanish FA.

"He has a small oedema (fluid swelling) in his right thigh. It is not a serious injury and there is no tear," the FA said.

"There isn't a fixed recovery period so he is not ruled out of the first game of the World Cup in South Africa, which takes place against Switzerland in Durban on June 16."
