they'll do literally anything besides hold Colorado to four goals or pull the goalie early when losing
Seems Avs fans really believe shit like Nelson said. They’re in for a rude awakening playing the best (whichever team wins) team left in the west next round. Both teams are about 2 lines deeper than the Avs
simmer jets had Colorado’s number all season and is the exact type of team we struggle against. Vegas, too, to a certain degree.
That doesn’t matter in the playoffs tbf. Stars lost 6 straight games to Vegas, despite playing better in the first 2 games, then went on the road and won back to back. I wasn’t just talking about you though. Avs fans have been real weird today, including one of my irl friends
Probably not. He’s a good coach too. But after fucking it up with Dallas, and if he were to blow huge leads back to back years, he probably wouldn’t get another chance for a while
The Bruins window isn’t getting any bigger. Blowing a 3-1 series lead to a Toronto team that now doesn’t have Matthews is a huge issue. Back to back first round exits will get Boston antsy I think.
Yea, that comment made no sense. Avs are looking at a path of Winnipeg, Stars/Vegas, Edmonton, Carolina/Florida/Boston. I'd call Winnipeg the worst team in that path pretty comfortably.
I couldn't disagree with this more. That roster is playing way over its head based on a strong system and elite goaltending. Their 1st line center is Charlie fucking Coyle. After you get past McAvoy, Pasta, Marchand, and Swayman/Ulmark, that roster gets thing VERY quickly.
I think it’s more so Boston fans would riot if they blew 3-1 leads in back to back playoffs. No way they can keep him.
Stars situation is pretty funny. If Dallas comes back to beat Vegas, Deboer will be a hero. If they lose, I think it’s 50/50 he’s fired
oh sure, but a fanbase being dumb as shit shouldn't cost a very good coach his job. I think Carolina is a tier above the Rangers. Rangers only advantage in that series is Shesterkin. I will maintain that Deboer is as mid of a coach as it gets. He gets put into a good situation and is just barely able to keep the car from crashing.
I agree but it happens more often than not. Just like dumb Leafs fans are going to push them to trade Marner
I don’t disagree but shitting the bed against Toronto would be a real tough one get past. Especially when they fired a much more accomplished coach than Montgomery. I’m not big on the NHL turning into the EPL with coaches fired every year or two but I struggle to see Boston not overreacting if they somehow blow the series.
I mean I want a summer of chaos in toronto so badly. I thought the panthers gentlemans's sweep last year would be enough to cause it, but nope. And that coach immediately went on to win a cup. They got lucky as shit that Montgomery got his alcoholism under control because he has dragged that roster to be way more competitive than it has any right to be.
I agree. It really sucks having such a talented roster for so long to go from Bowness to Deboer…. Both coaches are so average
There’s absolutely no way the Jets should’ve looked that bad btw and they crashed last year too. Bowness absolutely should be on the block
Let Boston fire Montgomery, Deboer gets canned if they don’t make it to the WCF. Wholesome reunion after a terrible time before
If we win, I can’t wait to make fun of everyone for putting so much stock in high number of low calorie shots like they did the last time the Rangers beat Carolina in a series If we lose, well we were the underdogs anyway My opinion on Carolina is they’re not built to win a Stanley Cup, Brind’Amour’s system is not conducive to competing at the highest level, and they’re propped up by #statbois more than anything else. The bigger question, in my mind, is whether it’s the Rangers that prove that to be true or Florida in the next series like they did last year
Both Carolina and Florida look better on paper than NY but you can’t deny the results I’m not a doubter in them. Except for Trouba fuck that guy
Lol I had no idea this happened. Jesus. And apparently Dallas and LA can’t watch their games today unless they have ESPN, which a lot of people don’t.
We didn’t play a single complete game against the Isles, and got away with it on talent. That will get us swept against the Rangers. Canes fans are kind of blindly hoping we lock it in for the 2nd round but they looked like shit for large portions of the first 5 games.
Yeah, I watched way more of that series than I thought I would. Islanders pissed away at least 2 of those games. Carolina needs to be much better next round.
Frankly, the Rangers were similar. We played average hockey against a shitty opponent and found our way to a sweep. Which is typical of the Rangers, who seemingly always play up or down to their opponent but then find ways to win in 3rd periods. Its why I think we’re dangerous against anyone but likely aren’t consistent enough to win it all.
Yeah, it sounds like a shitshow. But, tbh, I'm surprised people have/had Bally access and not ESPN. I haven't had Bally since switching to YoutubeTV a couple years ago. Clay Travis is bitching that he now can't watch the Braves, so there is some silver lining there.
This is a very 2017 look at Carolina. Back then they were a team that had very good analytics but you could see that they lacked the high end talent on the roster you need to win in the playoffs. In 2024 they have a handful of All Star Caliber players and have the depth to support them. Carolina is absolutely a dangerous team and calling them statboi frauds couldn't be more wrong. See to me this is a much bigger flaw than claiming the Canes are analytics merchants. You are basically admitting that the rangers are a team that plays 50/50 hockey and relies on 3rd period "clutch factor" to win games. When you are a team like this, eventually the coin stops landing on heads. Sometimes you can ride that kind of magic further than anyone expects, but the vast majority of the time, it runs out sooner rather than later.
Just changing everything all at once, I guess. I like Dorofeyev in, I love whitecloud out. I’m interested to see if the Barbashev move helps to balance things across the entire lineup. Without looking at data that 4th line felt invisible, and Barbashev has felt mostly absent compared to what you generally expect to see out of him. Carrier just ain’t it anymore. Theodore is underperforming, and made a few noticeable mistakes last time out. Missing Hague more that I anticipated as he’s not great, but he’s generally not a problem, either.
their entire team has underperformed outside of eichel, marchessault, thompson, and mcnabb. They won the first two games but they certainly did not play better. Pietrangelo and stone have been 2 of the worst on the team. Pulling Thompson is objectively stupid imo
