http://www.cnn.com/2016/02/08/asia/india-leopard-attack-bangalore/index.html Three people were mauled when a leopard entered school grounds in the Indian city of Bangalore, leading officials on an all-day mission to subdue the animal. Surveillance video of Sunday's attack showed the big cat chasing terrified men around the private school's swimming pool, leaping on them and mauling them as they tried to escape. The 6-year-old male leopard, suspected of straying onto the school grounds from a nearby forest, was eventually tranquilized and taken to a wildlife park for treatment. The ordeal started at about 4.15 a.m. Sunday when a security guard at Vibgyor International School in the Bangalore suburbs spotted the leopard, according to S. Boralingaiah, police chief of Karnataka's Davangere district. The animal was next spotted on surveillance camera about two hours later but then vanished until midafternoon, he said. Officials were on the brink of calling off the search when they spotted the leopard at about 3:30 p.m. in a bush behind the school, the police chief said. But it managed to escape through a ventilation duct into the swimming pool complex, where the attacks took place, Boralingaiah said. Officials finally managed to strike the big cat with a tranquilizer dart at about 6.30 p.m., but it did not take full effect until about 8.15 p.m., he said. Ralph said an estimated 1,500 leopards were in Karnataka state but that they rarely strayed far into urban areas. India has some 12,000 to 14,000 leopards, according to a study the Wildlife Institute of Indiacommissioned.
I had a pretty good friend from India that actually became really close with a tiger when they journeyed to America together. It was a pretty crazy story and I'm not sure what if any of it was true, but I guess it's kind of up to whoever he shares the story with to determine what really happened.
Trying to fight off a leopard while simultaneously treading water sounds like it would be a bad time.
I believe you can rank the big cats however you please as they are all awesome... BUT, the leopard is the most beautiful animal in the world.
Ya but just fucking imagine being that guy. For the rest of your life, you can tell people that you fought off a fucking leopard and survived. In a way, I envy him.
the leopard wasn't hungry or he would be dead though but yeah i would make it seem like i was some kind of fucking badass
We need to make sure that these animals are not driven into extinction- they are absolute wonders of evolution and I hope all of the big cats and exotic animals find a way, man.
Perfect rankings. #1 is obvious, but only true big cat people put the Jaguar in its rightful place at #2.
fuck living in a country where a big cat can just fuck you up at any moment think about being at work and a MOTHERFUCKING LEOPARD just comes out of nowhere and rips your ass apart
I would go- 1. Lion 2. Leopard 3. Cheetah 4. Jaguar 5. Bengal Tiger 6. Tony the Tiger 7. Siberian Tiger
North American mountain lions and Cougars and such are awesome and underrated as well- just don't ever get to watch anything about them because you can't find the fuckers.
Look at Pelican in here with his fucking tiger propaganda bullshit again. No one refers to a goddamned Bungle(!) Tiger as the king of the jungle. Lions are teh only big cat that possess the regal qualities that the lesser species of big cats only dream of having.
Yeah, I don't even know how to talk to people that rank Tigers ahead of Lions. Yeah, 1v1 they are the ultimate killers, but lions living in prides and killing cooperatively is so amazingly cool... If I want to check out a solitary cat that kills stuff via stealth, then leopards are my go to.
I thought about the pool for a hot second too while watching the vid... but then the images of saber tooths on mammoth backs in tar pits came to mind. Don't care if kitty like to swim, I don wanna be her island in the stream. (Good blues title?) Then seeing those videos of them nabbing baby crocs or whatever just made me glad I only have to worry about stupid, relatively stationary snakes.
Well, yeah, but that's like saying a boxer would beat up a basset hound... You can only compare them to their environment. Mountain lions skill elk and and mule deer- they are amazing.
