Raising Valentine's affinity might be the most excruciating process I've had to deal with in this game yet. It's a shitty companion perk, and I did it mostly for completion reasons and to get the eddie winter holotapes out of my inventory, but now I feel like a monster. The only quickly repeatable action I could find to increase Nick's affinity was shooting dogmeat and then giving him a stimpak, listening to his plaintive cries and yips every time. I can't see the actual affinity number without console commands so I'm flying partially blind just looking for the conversation checkpoints and quest offering, admire/idolize etc, just forced to shoot my dog over and over again, praying for it to be over as soon as possible. I read in one place that a companion "like" meant +15 on a 0-1000 point scale, in another I read it was a set range between +7 and +15 per "like". Assuming I started at absolute 0 with Nick, and not including the few likes and loves that he has from his own quest, I still had to commit canicide 133 times to max out his affinity, for an average of just +7.5 for each time. The couple times diamond city radio decided to glitch out and require me to repeat swathes of murder time didn't help. Fuck this RNG Spoiler I would say that I actually had no problem convincing myself that it's not real, he's not being hurt, it doesn't matter, I'm even healing him, but I look at my dogs on the couch beside me and think I might be an even worse human being if I admitted that.
to be fair, what valentine likes is the healing part of it. He likes a lot of lawful good stuff, but I was way too far into the game by the time I bothered with companion perks that terminals would be a pain, and he often likes it when you accept generous type quests, but I'd missed out on working his affinity that way. I just needed a quick and dirty way to max his affinity so I could dump his quest holotapes, felt like I should record the process. Edit: I can't believe I'm suggesting it, but almost every companion (besides strong and X6-88 I think) like it when you heal dogmeat, so if you can stomach the process, you can do most of them at the same time, companion quest requirements notwithstanding.
It takes way too long to max a companions affinity for you (unless you cheat). Another problem I had with the game. You are essentially tied to a companion for nearly the entirety of the game if you want to complete their quest line.
bro pearl BlazingRebel just picked it up. never played the fallout series. came with fallout 3. time is no issue as i've exhausted my yearly 4-5 months of gamefly and dont wanna wait a month for the division so i prob have until october or nov to focus on fallout and the witcher's expansion. so my question is, should i go hardcore into fallout 3 first? just for the exp?
If you've got nothing but time, I'd play FO3 first. It is just as good if not better. Plus, you wouldn't want to go from FO4 to FO3 ... you'd feel like you regressed gameplay wise. Being that FO3 is one of the best console games ever, you should play it now to ensure you get to it. Plus you will pick up a lot of easter eggs in FO4
just beat 3 good times. 8.5/10 perhaps i expected a bit more, but also i maybe put in like 80-85% effort
I ended up just sending them all to Sanctuary. Impossible to keep up with all of the different settlements.
when you say "beat," not sure what you mean. The main story is like 1/4 of the fun of any of these games also: don't get the Fallout 4 being a major disappointment talk. some of the missions do not have the greatest story... but outside of that, I love every minute of it.
It was a disappointment because there were such high hopes for it. The fact I enjoyed 3 and NV more than 4 makes it a disappointment.
It's not one of the best games ever but I still ended up playing it for like 200 hours. Can't really complain too much.
I got it when it was like 30 dollars. I think they upped the price. Automation was enjoyable and wasteland workshop is kind of neat. Neither are must haves, though. I downloaded far Harbor but haven't gotten around to playing it yet.
Got glitched on the Mechanist fight and now have to pray for a patch or go back to a save that is at level 35. I'm currently 62.
The memory puzzles are fucking stupid. The 5th one was unbelievably tedious. It's not even difficult. Just takes forever
The mods have brought me back in. Not running at a stable frame rate killed the game for me. Thankfully these mods seemed to have stabilized that. Also, like in most fallout games you eventually become a god. It's nice using the unleveled mod to keep everything competitive.
The game tells you before you make any choices that will permanently make you an enemy of each faction so you can do as many missions for each one as possible before crossing that line.
Fired this game back up and decided to finish it. Apparently I stopped playing at level 100. I chose the Nuclear Option as a finish, but I was friendly with all 4 factions, so now I can't seem to start a war with the Brotherhood like I want. I've started the DLC. The traps/animals thing is pretty meh. Looking forward doing to Far Harbor this weekend. PAM keeps sending me on radiant quests to kill Coursers and they're all at the same damn location. I wish I could discard quests
yeah that's where i'm at. I stopped playing back in december because every choice seemed terrible. i think i might just do railroad and be done with it.
So I've become permanently invisible because I got into a suit of railroad power armor with a stealth boy torso and crouched, and it's not nearly as cool as it sounds. It has affected saves that were made before I ever even made the damn armor. My pip boy screen is invisible so it's a struggle to do anything there, although I manged to unequip/equip my armor and weapons, and even use a stealth boy, none of which changed a thing. Can anyone in this thread help me fix this? I'm on a ps4 so it's already been a shitty week hearing I won't get console mods till fuck off whenever
