Going to Kentons for the first time for brunch. I've been jonesing since it recently opened. Has anyone been yet or have a recommendation what to order?

I'm thinking the grilled flatbread with a steady flow of hound dogs

What not to do in New Orleans... go with your wife... leave hotel for hookers... go missing... have it plastered on the news... be found alive, and presumably broke

Grab a beer and start walking away from canal and go to port of call on esplanade and get a monsoon. Drink that on your way through the Marigny past Washington square across Elysian Fields into the other side of the Marigny and into Bywater. Enjoy your big ass drink while enjoying a side of the city you may not experience with a group. Go to hanks supermarket on st Claude for a dank ass po boy.

I recommend the roast beef, shrimp or Philly. Also buy a 22oz of something you like and eat your po boy outside the C store and when you finish head back across Elysian Fields and get two drinks at the John on Frenchman.

It's a shitter themed bar where they fill your cup with booze then spray mist your mixer.

Walk down Frenchman and go left at esplanade and then a right where it dead ends and walk through the market.

By then you'll be nice and buzzed with three hours killed, destroyed an amazing po boy that didn't cost you $15 at some bouiggie ass French quarter spot, will have seen some dope architecture, some weirdos and some local shit. You can also take the river street car down to canal if you were tired of walking. Just make sure you finish your booze before it picks you up.

You can also pm me if you wanna smoke a bowl as I may be downtown around that time.

    Good luck!

Also at some point hit up blind pelican for $3 doz oysters with beer purchase.

Also if you need a cab from bourbon during your stay, it's worth it to walk a couple blocks away to a one way in the direction you're going. Cabbies love getting stuck around bourbon and the quarter and truth be told, you could walk faster than hopping in a cab.

Also, would highly recommend renting bikes and ride around getting drunk and check out the entirety of the quarter and cool shit around it exerting minimal effort.

Riding a bike in the city with a beer in hand is a goat Nola experience. Just make sure the bikes come with locks lol.

Walked past bourbon a couple nights ago- it had a great smell of piss and vomit. Do not recommend that area, but to each their own.

Ate at Palace Cafe, it was good

In 2.5 days I hit up:

    Cafe du Monde (x2)
    Mother's
    Atchafalaya
    Ruby Slipper

Then we went watch Book of Mormon at the Saenger - which was equally awesome

The Corporation is very good dive bar near the WWII museum, get the Chicken Fried Steak. This is a true dive bar though, you will will leave smelling like an ash tray.

Mother's is a good option for a Po-Boy in the CBD. If you are willing to travel, go to Parkway.

A couple unmentioned places worth checking out:

    Coop's Place
    Killer Po Boys
Willie Mae's Scotch House (best fried chicken I've ever had)
    Irene's

And if you want something fun (in a non-perverted, adult sense), go to M.S. Rau Antiques. Just an amazing amount of great antiques, like a museum with lots of price tags.

We saw an authenticated strand of George Washington's hair and fragments of his casket made into a plaque - for only $22,500 - among other amazing items. I overheard someone say "We already have a Monet," then disappear into a hidden room around the corner.

Just fun ass random shit everywhere.

Don't understand the mothers love, honestly.

Parkway is bomb as fuck. Get the surf n turf.

If you have a car, take a trip to bears in Metairie.

    image.png image.png

Also, take the street car uptown to the Carrolton stop and go to cooter browns and get fried oysters and Mac n cheese. The oysters are so huge n juicy they look like chicken tenders.

Also if you end up in the Bywater or Marigny late night, go to hanks for a real Nola corner store po boy with an eclectic crowd. If you go there, make sure you tell the fat little Spanish lady that el gringo gordito says 'te amo'. Get the chicken tender po boy and a piece of $0.50 catfish.

there are so many great poboy places that everybody has a favorite

when I was a kid my dad's office was in Kenner and we'd get poboys from Check In Check Out at the corner of Loyola and Vets. Not even sure if it's still open but I still lust after those poboys and it's been at least 15 years since I've had one

I'll answer for him: NOLA has some of the worst infrastructure/planning in the country.
    • The roads are terrible and impossible to be maintained mainly due to awful soil conditions
    • The water system leaks 40% of the volume that flows through it and has to maintain pressure to not be contaminated, so when an inevitable power loss occurs at main pumping station, a boil water advisory occurs that lasts 24 - 72 hours generally - this happens like twice a year
    • The road system is nowhere near a grid in NOLA proper due the fact that it is crescent shaped
    • Public transportation is awful for a city of this size, the street cars are nice if you happen to live and work on one of the 3 roads they service
    • If there is heavy rains, there is going to be street flooding and a lot of it as the system can only pump out 1/2" per hour after the first hour of heavy pumping
    • The city has to constantly pump out water out areas to not get flooded
    • It is a pretty dangerous city - only safer than 5% of the nation according to this site
    • The bureaucracy of the City of New Orleans is actually pretty good and has a progressive mentality but they are having to deal with one of the most poorly planned, scrapped together cities in the nation on top of being surrounded by idiotic state level policies due to being a red state (see Bobby Jindal)
The city has plenty of character, places to eat/drink, etc. but the bones/infrastructure of the city are just awful.

If you're in the mood for a burger and fries, the Company Burger is as good as it gets. I heard they opened a second location closer to downtown, but I've only been to their location off Feret. No fuss burgers, and they make 5 or 6 different aiolis in house.
