I would prefer a book on the backstory of Susannah. I read all the books while waiting to start my job post law school. Agree though would love to see a full power Roland. Spoiler Book 6 was so fucking bad. I just kept waiting and waiting for it to get good. Then Book 7 with the Crimson King just being erased was so anti-climatic. I was thankful just to be done after reading 5-7.
I would like a story about the adventures of The Tet Corporation going up against Sombra/North Central Positronics
They are making a movie on the Dark Tower, starring Matthew Mcconaughey and Idris Elba. I need to start and finish this series. I got 50% into gunslinger but couldn't get into it at the time.
RonBurgundy LKRFN88jp Its a lot of fun. The 6th book sucks but its short. 7th isn't up to par either but its better than 6. I enjoyed 5 but some people didn't like it either. 1-4 are really great. Completely worth reading all 7 even if it there are some points at the end I have a problem in. It doesn't lag though so you'll have no problem finishing. Don't read backwards in the thread as there are some spoilers that aren't in spoiler tags. I'll try to clean it up later and make it safe to start at page 1.
It's on my list, which will happen after I finish the last 2 Brandon Sanderson books, Saturn Run, the Slow Regard of Silent Things, finish the last book of the Partials series, and finish the audiobooks of the Wheel of Time series (on book 2 now lol).
Finished The Gunslinger last night. I guess The Drawing of the Three is out of publication and they're reprinting it starting in early May so I'll have to wait on that.
If you can't find it at a local bookstore buy it for super cheap at abebooks.com Or I'll send you an e copy
Question for those that read The Wind Through the Keyhole. If you're recommending the series to someone where in the order would you tell them to read this? I never got around to reading it.
What books do I need to read before getting started? I've seen 'Salem's Lot, The Stand, and The Eyes of the Dragon. Just want to confirm. The Stand is like 1500 pages (though it's on the list since it's supposed to be one of King's best). I've read 'Salem's Lot Thanks
Yeah The Stand is great and a must read. I read The Dark Tower series before ever having picked up another King book and went through it just fine. I guess I enjoyed it in the opposite order, catching the characters and events that show up in The Dark Tower series in the other books after the fact. I'd say read it whenever you want.
Thanks. I'm backlogged. Even with Malazan, I have a bunch of things I'd like to get started on. Not a bad problem, I suppose. But I'd like to read this prior to the movie coming out.
You don't "need" to really read anything prior. I read maybe 7-8 of his books before reading the Dark Tower series and then went back and read a bunch of his stuff that tied into the DT series.
If you wanna crank out a book or two before starting...I would at the very least suggest Eyes of the Dragon. Great story, quick read, etc. Like The Blackfish said, The Stand is fucking great...and I'll add that it would explain some things in the DT series but that's one looooong book to read while anticipating what you're gonna read next.
The books mentioned are a great start. Eyes of the Dragon was the first King novel I ever read, and it still may be my favorite. If you're looking for other books that have direct tie ins to DT: Black House (read The Talisman first, BH is the sequel) Hearts in Atlantis Insomnia
Just finished Book 2. Book 3 will be arriving on Tuesday. I thought the Gunslinger was meh, but everything really picked up with Eddie in the second book. Fuck Detta though
The Gunslinger will make more sense when you continue reading...your first re-read of Book 1 will make much more sense...Susannah became one of my fave characters
I really can't blame anyone who is a little hesitant after only reading The Gunslinger. It's definitely one of the weaker books in the entire series, IMO. If I had to rank: 4,3,2,5,7,1,6 Wizard and Glass is probably one of my favorite books of all time.
Stephen King just posted this on Twitter: Spoiler The Dark Tower is close, now. The Crimson King awaits. Soon Roland will raise the Horn of Eld. And blow.
meh. Just not what I picture when I think of Roland. I'm sure he'll do a good job with it but not liking the urban cowboy look.
just keep plugging away...it doesn't make a whole lot of sense until you start your first re-read. Trust me on this
