I'm in on this theory. Jacobs videos are great, truly mind-blowing because he reads and studies the series far, far above me. But they're frustrating because after they're over I feel like a freshman that just sat in on a panel of doctorate-level discussion. "Yeah, uh, it's important but I can't remember why."
I enjoyed reading this: http://www.vulture.com/2015/12/50-biggest-asoiaf-and-got-theories.html And now I want to reread the whole series. Plan on reading Dunk and Egg around the time the new season drops for sure.
thanks for giving me something to do the rest of the afternoon. also read Dunk & Egg as soon as you can. they're quick reads, and awesome.
I bought the book back in October and I still haven't read it. Then I stumbled upon a Deadspin article bout Dunk and Egg the other day and was reminded of it.
I have not. I've been reading so much/have so much to-read that I don't want to until I know when book 6 will for sure be out.
It's crazy how obvious the foreshadowing is once you know exactly what will happen. Part of what makes it so great
love Preston, but some of his are really out there, then again maybe if fat ass would put another book out............
Spoiler Ian McShane on BBC today basically admitted he's playing Septon Meribald and he nurses the Hound back to health
https://www.reddit.com/r/asoiaf/comments/498phx/spoilers_everything_who_is_the_elder_brother_of/ Extremely long, but worth the read. Basically the Quiet Isle is where a bunch of old famous knights went to hide after the battle at the trident, mostly Rhaegar's kingsguard. Also some connections with the Martell family that make you question everything.
I've always wondered why there isn't a bigger deal made of the fact that so many main characters are the product of relatively recent incest, especially given that the crux of the story is incest. Cersei's/Jaime's kids obviously Dany's parents were brother and sister. Jaime's, Cersei's, and Tyrion's parents were first cousins. Ned's parents were cousins.
Dany (and Rhaegar and Viserys) is the most inbred being since Aegon the Unworthy. Aerys and Rhaella's parents were also brother and sister (Jaehaerys II and Shaera). I guess outside of brother to sister, incest is generally frowned upon but accepted in the major houses in order to mediate the formation of lots of cadet houses. Just a guess.
Plus I'm assuming Jon will have a 'KINGINDANORF' moment and will just declare himself King Jon Stark. I don't see why he can't do that imo
I think that the small folk are going to rise up and overthrow the high houses. All the focus has been on the high lords and the moves they make to try and ascend to dominance while the commoners pay the price. I think GRRM has been playing hide the ball by having us guess which noble house ends up on top and who will ultimately end up on the iron throne. I think the seven kingdoms will come undone
good video, worth a watch Cliffs: CotF had magic that let them manipulate ice before the First Men First Men interbred with CotF Evidence of human babies being given to the Others and humans and Others interbreeding Night's Watch celibacy vow was put in place to stop interbreeding with Others Wights are controlled by individuals within the Weirwood Net Others are dead souls of CotF from the Weirwood Net that want to live forever, so they created this magic ice body Night's King's wife wasn't an Other or a wight (not sure what this has to do with anything) House Farwynd (First Men house and westernmost house of the Iron Islands) has warged into animals that have gone beyond the Sunset Sea and saw a land without death or winter. If you believe that Westeros actually connects to Essos (Land of Always Winter on one side is actually the Gray Waste on the other side), then somewhere in the middle might have been what Gylbert Farwynd was tallking about at the King's Moot. Basically, Gylbert Farwynd or his family have seen the Land of Always Winter and it's not awful, it's paradise. The Others are protecting their immortal paradise. I believe some of his premises (firm believer that CotF and Others are working together against humans), but I don't believe his conclusion. I still think that the Others built the wall and that there was an agreement to supply them with humans, so they would stay in the LoAW. When the Nightfort was abandoned, the Others stopped getting their babies, and since humans weren't meeting the Others' terms, the Others are saying fuck it.
Any chance that the red witch is actually the night's queen or is she long gone? (Not sure if that's come up at all)
