Went Fri and Sun last year. Only disappointing part was learning he covered When the Levee Breaks on Saturday
Holy shit. I just scored a ticket on the first pew row of the Ryman. Randomly checked ticketmaster and there she was. I dont know what to do with my hands.
This was my first impression, mostly due to it being one of my favorite nirvana songs. The more I listened, the more I liked it, and then hearing it in the context of the album made it brilliant to me.
Went to see Sturgill in Tucson about a year ago. $18 a ticket. If we're lucky enough to get him back down here for a show anywhere in Arizona this year I'd probably pay 3-4x that easily.
Where it falls in the album is so perfect. I'd listened to it alone before the release but in the flow of it all it took me entirely too long for me to even realize what it was.
Great follow up to his last album. Still like Metamodern better, but it takes nothing away from this album.
I love all tHree albums and for a while I thought high top mountain was the best. In the end they are all great but different. High top and meta are closer to one another, but all three are great albums
This album didn't grab me like the other two did. After a few times through, I'm having a hard time listening to anything else.
Been binging much more than the new one lately and it occurred to me that "Just Let Go" off Metamodern might be the most underrated track in the whole catalog.
fuckin A cotton. boss has a couple tickets to SS at the moody theater on friday that i snatched up with the quickness. favorite venue I've ever been to. bartscottcan'twait
I kinda like Chris Stapleton, but it bothers me that he's 'bigger' than people like Sturgill and Isbell. I guess he's just formulaic whereas Sturg and Isbell are true originals.
The Conan live version is almost as good as the Sunday Valley version. Replacing the violin part with horns on the live performance was a big improvement.
Some of Sturgill's lyrics from this old Sunday Valley song found their way into "Call to Arms." "Bullshit on my TV, Bullshit on my radio. Hollywood telling me how to be me. Bullshit's got to go." 2:10 mark 3:30 mark
I honestly thought I was one of the few people I knew (aside from this thread, obviously) that knew about Chris Stapleton, until he played with Timberlake. I had Traveller on vinyl and all that. Once he played with Timberlake, girls (and even guys) that listen to nothing but awful pop country radio started sharing his songs on Facebook. And the rest is history.
Also love how the vinyl came with CD. Just threw that in the wife's ride in case I'm stuck in her car with nothing to listen
5* Good mix of old cd and new cd and a couple from 2013 cd saw him at ACL Fest last year. Such a night and day difference if you get to see him in an intimate setting ~2700 capacity instead of an open air festival setting
He was on w/ Marc Maron today: http://www.wtfpod.com/podcast/episode-706-sturgill-simpson-john-c-reilly
Sailor's Guide has grown on me so much. It was great upon the first listen, but I like it more and more by the day. It's insane how distinct his 3 albums are yet they keep the same underlying sound. Can't wait to see what's next.
Two hours until showtime in Chattanooga. High Cotton cheddarisbetter come to the Pickle Barrel and have a beer with BIGASSTITTIES
Was in a waiting room for a presale for his KC show for 30 minutes and was only able to get one ticket. Damn
