I've used Kronovi's forever since he was the first pro I watched play. I hadn't looked at the stats for the cars in a while but I switched to the Takumi probably a couple months ago and it's funny seeing how poorly it rates overall. What I like about it is that it's small. As Mel Gibson said in The Patriot, "aim small, miss small." I've gone much more aerial over the last couple months and I'm more likely to get a nice, solid aerial hit with the Takumi because it forces me to be more precise. Also to get up quicker and if it's a high enough ball do a double jump to get yourself going off the ground quicker. When I first started going up for aerials I would save that double jump/dodge ability because I wasn't in the air that long and a dodge at the end of my arc towards the ball was what allowed me to hit it all a lot of the time because I wasn't as accurate. As I've improved and started going higher and being in the air longer I'm trying to remember to do the double jump but it is so much quicker that it can throw you off so like anything in this game it takes a lot of practice to get used to.
Started to get the hang of wall dragging/air dribbling last night. So much fun when you actually start pulling some of that shit off in a game. Still a ways from shit like this though.
Couple of my best plays from when I actually remember to save shit. Sorry the vids are crappy, too lazy. Me and this rando had a beautiful moment An OT save that led to the game winning goal.
One week I thought it was 2v2 only, but I thought I saw some 3v3 in the clip. Found a nice training exercise too that has helped with my touch and dribbling quite a bit. Do the Aerial all-star training, try to catch the ball on the top of your car as it lands without letting it hit the ground, and try and balance/dribble it on top of your car and into the goal without it hitting the ground still. I've only managed a few no-bouncers, but quite a few 1 and 2 bouncers.
has this game gone complete lag for anyone else the past couple of weeks? every single game, no matter what region or anything it ends up lagging so badly it's made me stop playing
LOL basketball mode for non-great players is ridiculous. Played 4 games and pretty sure every goal was an accident with over half the last touch is by the wrong team. Pretty fun tho. The small court is really fun.
The way the camera zoomed in on me as I scored this goal really made me wish I had the pixelated "Deal With It" sunglasses on at the time...
RLCS tournament on the rocket league twitch site right now. It's bizarre, they have like an NFL announcer panel and then a commentator and color guy during the games. https://www.twitch.tv/rocketleague/mobile These guys are insanely good btw, down to the top 8 today.
I've been following the pro leagues closely. They do a great job with it. Insane skill, EU is worlds better than NA.
Both mock-its were disappointing. IBP Cosmic still probably better than the EU at the top, but top 4 no contest. Next week should be good.
I don't know, IBP individually are as good as anyone, but they break down defensively. They send multiple people for way too many balls. Against most of NA outside of KOU and maybe Vexx it doesn't cost them but against We Dem Girlz/Flipside/Kapow really any decent EU squad it will.
Still think Gambit is the best overall, NA or EU, so maybe they don't send him up as much when they meet. Low5ive and mockit probably my favorite to watch cast, but they are light years behind those overall top 8. Rizzo getting better, but Intolerance is a mixed bag. Kind of laughing typing this as I am discussing competitive RL like I would football, bball or soccer.
I find it extremely entertaining and it's awesome to be able to watch high level gameplay whenever I want. I work and have a ton of down time and just stream RL. I agree on Gambit, but a lot of people would say someone from WDG or Marky are better than Gambit. Lach and especially Kronovi both think they're gods and go for crazy, often times stupid shit in games and therefore put themselves out of position. If they can tighten up their positioning they can be the best by a significant margin. Jacob/KOU are my favorite streams to watch, they are legitimately entertaining. Low5ive is solid but he gets douchey at times. I enjoy watching Rizzo a lot more.
Been playing more competitive lately trying to finally get out of Challenger. In randoms, I keep running into these couple types of annoying players. - Always grabbing boost guy. Up front for a kickoff ((take the shot)), I need full boost at all times so I can keep whiffing every aerial. - Teammate S U C K S guy if we go down 1 in the first minute, then sits still while PS4 typing why his teammate sucks while they score again 2 on 1. - Finally, no rotation ball chaser guy. MUST TOUCH BALL! Then spams what a save or nice shot if every hit isn't perfect. This game is getting vastly more popular, but I'll be damned if he community isn't trying to out-do Cs-Go and League of Legends for a shitty player base. Anyway, don't be these guys. If I could turn off PS4 players, I probably would. 9 out of 10 times, it's someone with a picture next to their name.
Just played doubles today, ranked, with a guy who wouldn't take face offs. If I was placed in goal and he was on the corner, he would backflip to boost while I frantically either try to aerial ricochet or play goal sitter. I scored 5 of our 6. We lost 7-6 and he types "teammate was crap, reported" and leaves. What in the actual fuck?
I'm not a good ranked player but one thing that annoys the crap out of me is faceoff roles/awareness. As in if you should stay back or go forward. It's really not hard to figure out on 'default' formations (i play standard 3v3) when you arent playing in a set party/team/group.
Well, what I think happened is the top top players bitched about too many players getting up to Grand Champion levels and RL was the 3rd most downloaded game on PSN last month so there's a ton of new players filling up the prospect spots and there is just a logjam in Challenger. I will win 4 straight and not climb a division, lose 1 and drop so something is wonky with the rankings for season 2. They need more ranking imo, the descrepency in Challenger makes getting out of solo standard next to impossible.
Even though I am not that good - i would go to a Rocket League live eSports event once it exists. And I'm betting it will.
BTW, I am 200 hours in and just figured out to switch air roll from the square button to left bumper. I'm like ohhhhhhhh, this is how you freestyle. ((Face palm)) It makes changing directions in the air so different, basically have to start from scratch on aerials. Now, I basically just run an hour or of open play and practice now until I can do it without thinking, also, not playing while boozing helps a ton. I am like prospect 1 if I have more than 6 drinks, just awful. Dropped to Challenger 2 division 1 in doubles after a bar night last week. I was 3 division 4 when I logged on.
I made the mistake of switching my boost to LB (L1) on when I first started the game. I tried to switch my air roll to RT (you don't accelerate in air) but it fucks me up. Thinking about trying RB. Also, here are all the vehicle stats, very helpful: http://imgur.com/a/atGYR
Converted to Octane from Dominus. Venom is my fuck around car and bring the Merc out for booze cruising so it's known that things aren't being taken seriously. Miss the front end hit box on the Dominus ( and the freeeeedom eagle paint), but far better on the walls with Octane.
I keep boost and jump together on X and O. Unless I am in goal or need to hang up to get a ball in the air, I never take off without both at the same time. I moved powerslide to LB too and scoreboard to square. I've been accidentally checking the score about a dozen times a game. Damn muscle memory.
Had I think my best goal ever tonight... As for controls... I made fun of my friend for changing his air roll to LB last summer when we were playing on PC because I was like, you think you're Kronovi or something? I did eventually change it myself and aside from freestyles it's really, really important for making sure you recover and land well after going for an aerial or flying off the wall or getting nailed into the air and whatnot. RWisoursavior definitely don't make air roll and accelerate the same thing. While you wouldn't think accelerating in mid-air will do anything it actually does. It keeps you moving just slightly forward for some reason (engine/wheel momentum? who knows). I caught a pro RL streamer explaining that sometime shortly after the game came out on X1 and it was what really helped me click with hitting aerials. I was getting some but missing a bunch by a hair. May have been placebo effect but once I started remembering to let go of the gas in the air I started hitting aerials more consistently.
I started with Breakout/Dominus but have converted to the Octane. The Octane has better side roll shots (i.e. My car is parallel to the goal), I find dribbling much easier (way easier to pop shots off your roof) and the extra height is nice.
Working on air dribbling tight now, shit is tedious. Have to boost a little just after hitting, roll your thumb to jump and then kind of feather boost. Just resetting the pro striker one that rolls the ball to you over and over and over ...
http://www.engadget.com/2016/06/02/rocket-league-success/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter 'Rocket League' keeps adding players and making tons of money Add to that a further 5 million DLC purchases across PC, Xbox One and Playstation and the company has earned more than $110 million -- not bad for a game that cost just $2 million to build.
Link to Rocket League training mod. Some guy created it and Psyonix was really cool about it. Haven't used it yet, but good stuff on reddit about it. http://www.rocketleaguetrainer.com/pages/download edit: pc only
yea it's legit...you can pretty setup any situation with the ball in free play and have it repeat it as many times as you need. Roll it to you softly for dribbled practice, roll it up the wall real quick for shots, redirect setups. Pretty legit.
Guilty of being always grabbing boost guy.... That is if I think the other team is more likely to use it. I'll tap boost and drive over them just to get the 100% fills back to reloading. UNLESS I know a teammate is behind and might need it. Gotta take every advantage you can get iyam. Ball chaser guy is by far the worst to play on a team with though imo. There's also opponents that think they are the bash brothers, hardly play the ball and go for demolitions as much as they try to score. I usually laugh, because it seems avoidable, but after about 5-6 demolitions that I didn't see coming I start to get sliiiiiightly irritated.
