It would be fucking awesome if they did but there is just a ton more profit for them if they split it into 2 seasons
Especially considering HBO is fucked once this show goes off the air. They are going to keep this on as long as they can convince benioff and Weiss to keep it going.
Or until the can get GRRM to let them do a series about Robert's Rebellion or some of GRRM other work.
Robert's Rebellion The Targaryen Conquest Hell, I'll even watch a mini-series on how Tywin Lannister dealt with Reyne-Tarbeck rebellion, thus giving us the infamous "Rains of Castamere"
Group text had a meme that 6/26 was an inside job and wildfire can't melt valyrian steel beams. Any truth? Should I tag shu?
I can definitely see HBO either asking them to do more episodes or considering a spin-off/prequel series. Sepinwall talked about HBO not really having anything else to live on besides Game of Thrones. The Leftovers is struggling to attract viewers, nobody really knows what's going on with True Detective, and Vinyl just got cancelled after one season. They have Silicon Valley, Veep, and Last Week Tonight but I just don't see them being comfortable with a half hour comedy as their flagship show. I mean HBO is so desperate that they are bringing Curb Your Enthusiasm back for a 9th season after 5 years of being off the air. They have Westworld coming up which as some huge names in it, but if nothing really takes off in the next two years then I think it's a possibility that we at least get a prequel series. They could do an anthology type series where they visit a different point in history each season leading up to the time period where Game of Thrones starts. There's so much historical material that they could use.
Ramsey's death was sadder than this cock sucker's. i guess tommen wasn't a wise King. Jaime's words to him at the end...."you'll be alright. I'll see to that." Woops
As I posted before, this site streams around the clock. If i'm bored I will put it on and I will always catch a little tidbit from the past seasons that help me grasp the current season. http://www.stream4free.top/game-of-thrones
They would have taken back Curb at any point regardless of how many other quality shows they were currently airing. Larry David has always had the green light to do another season whenever he pleased. Sure they'd have preferred it never left the air but the return of Curb Your Enthusiasm in no way represents desperation of the network.
all 3 are either cancelled (like you said) or ending this year (i'm under the assumption they've asked pizzolatto to focus on other projects after the failure that was season 2 td). and none of the other shows get even a fraction of the audience GoT gets. Not to mention no one is buying HBO for fucking silicon valley or veep or even curb for that matter, no matter how great those shows are. chances are westworld fails as well given the history of the production and the fact that almost all shows fail, effectively leaving hbo with nothing after the spring of 2018 GOT is expensive as they come, but HBO will do whatever they can to extend the show/franchise over the next couple years. going to be interesting to see what we get
it's what everyone "knew" for years, so it's not surprising. but i am a bit surprised they confirmed it. they dropped the sound at that exact moment and it certainly seemed to be for a specific reason. wouldn't be surprised if that was a lack of communication between marketing and the showrunners.
this is true and HBO has had a few tank recently, they also seem to consistently put out a lot more quality shows than any other network.
with the 3 spring shows now off the air, hbo has the leftovers as a quality, returning scripted show. and that's it. and that's done this next season. and i think 7 people watch it. td failed. vinyl failed in spectacular fashion. luck failed. they haven't put out a "hit" since game of thrones debuted 6 years ago. they do have veep (great), silicon valley (good) and curb (GOAT category) coming back, but none of those drive subscriptions and discussion the way GOT does. i get what your saying about quality programming (but would argue fx and netflix have more success recently), but hbo needs a tentpole show, and thats what i mean when they're left with essentially nothing (if westworld fails) once GOT goes off the air.
Curb coming back has nothing to do with HBO's current affairs. Larry David has always had an open ended deal where he can make a new season whenever he wants. HBO will be fine. They consistently put out better shows than any other network and it's really not close.
TL asks to much from viewers sometimes. All the hidden shit. It has spaces of being too boring to do that stuff. Especially for a post season show that it is. I wanted vinyl to get 1 more. Oh well. Westworld looks like another brain fuck.
I have to disagree about Westworld's chances of failing given its production stall. If you'll recall, this very show that we're discussing itt had to do extensive reshoots of its pilot and recast two major characters. Granted, Westworld doesn't have as devoted a fanbase already in existence but I still think the production hiccups are a poor indicator at this juncture.
That's a good point. I was also taking into consideration that most TV shows fail (especially if we're judging by got standards). I hope it doesn't and we look back and laugh a few years down the line.
The high concept without the devotees worries more than the production stalls. However, given that HBO is hurting for flagship dramas, maybe Westworld will be given extra leeway to succeed. As to GoT, as much as I'd love for them to keep making it forever, I'm cool with the smaller seasons because I think they'll go balls to the wall in those episodes. Instead of having to budget for late season battles or Pennie pinch direwolves, the show can be splurge as it wraps up.
HBO executives did not like/understand the original pilot. I'm guessing it had too many book references and wasn't as widely accessible. Cat Stark was originally Jennifer Ehle (from Zero Dark Thirty) who left the show when it was picked up. Dany was some random actress who I guess didn't seem like a long term fit.
It's pretty cool watching old episodes and catching references that show up in later season. Re-watched episode 3.9. Bran told Rickon and Osha to head to the last hearth, the seat of House Umber, he unknowingly sent them to their death. Joffery died wearing gold Tommen died wearing gold Myrcella died on a ship under golden sails
I'm rereading the books right now, and enjoying the same type of things. Grrm may very well die before he even finishes this next book, but he's laid the foundation of an amazing story.
No idea what made me start Season One, Episode One: Winter is Coming, but man, the things you see knowing what's coming next. Tyrion Lannister with the whores yelling to Jamie to "close the door" hits home because of #HODOR. You also get the deer killed by the direwolf, which could be viewed in two ways: Robert's approaching death or the entire Baratheon family getting killed off by the Starks (Cersei dying from Jon).
It was a direwolf killed by a stag. Foreshadowing following Robert to kingslanding would kill the Starks (well most of them).
So as others have noted, the show likes to drop the names of the books during dialogue. Lady crane drops "The Winds of Winter are upon us" during episode 6.5 "The Door" Cersei - "When you play The Game of Thrones" Ramsey - "We'll leave a Feast for Crows" Can anyone point out the others?
I want to say Shireen mentioned "A Dance With Dragons" at some point talking about something she had read with Davos but could be wrong.
i feel like half of the main characters have said the phrase "game of thrones" at some point. littlefinger and tyrion i can practically hear them saying it
