Because they hate that we want to protect the rights of the individual, the least represented minority, that they mostly ignore.

the left thinks about issues in terms of power and libertarians think about them in terms of freedom. i don't think it's hard to see why those two schools of thought would produce some fierce disagreement.

    I going Johnson/Weld.

Sick of the bullshit the R and D keep trotting out. I cant vote for either candidate because while I dont agree with everything Johnson says, I agree with him on more than the other two.

In reality I believe both Trump and Clinton would be equally bad. Im sick of the way the country is going.

Of those 5 choices not sure I fall under any certain one. Raised catholic in the Midwest, went to catholic school for 12 years and just had enough of it by the time I left. I've never voted by "party" per se as much as I vote for the person. I voted for Mitch Daniels twice, some local election votes (voted for a Dem in local mayoral elections twice), but have never voted for a president. I'm tired of the two party system, until we have a relevant 3rd party nothing is going to change in Washington. It's only going to get worse. I'm tired of the NRA & religious right controlling the Republican Party. I feel like left continues to go further and further left. I don't give a damn about gay marriage or any other personal choices people make. Weed should be legal and taxed. Smaller government but realize it is necessary. I'll admit I don't know enough about trade or taxation to make a relevant argument one way or another. The PC culture is out of control. I'm sure I have more to say but that was long enough.

You're right that both Trump and Hillary would continue expanding the federal government and infringing on individual rights. If forced to vote between the two, the only reason I would vote Trump is to maintain balance on the SCOTUS. Over the next 8 years, we're probably going to see Kennedy, Thomas, and RBG step down/die. With Scalia, that means there could be 4 (and I'm willing to bet at least 3) vacancies to be filled, and the possibility of a 9-0, and at best 7-2 (fuck Roberts and Alito), Court that is very anti-federalism, anti-separation of powers, pro-"living, breathing Constitution," anti-individual rights, expansionist, and political. The harm that would result from a generation of a Court rubber stamping ever-expanding and otherwise unconstitutional executive action and legislation would be irreparable.

Original statement was a bit tongue in cheek, but yes, you can make an argument that the individual is the smallest minority in a society.

This seems more like an argument against the state and its monopoly on violence than against taxes. Maybe even an argument against democracy.

An individual is a single, independent entity out of a population of over 7 billion on our planet, therefore the smallest minority

Honestly I don't think HRC would be able to get in anyone on the scale of Kagan/Sotomayor, given the climate. Hell Garland was pretty neutral and no one is budging on his nomination because of bullshit

The GOP should have accepted Garland with open arms. Trump ain't winning the election, and HRC isn't going to nominate anyone anywhere close to as moderate as Garland.

Yeah agreed. Uh I think he is, I don't trust the voting block. And I feel like she isn't nearly as liberal as most think. She's going to pick people who are bipartisan, corporate friendly, and restrictive of the 4th and 5th amendments

The idea of what the public thinks a "conservative" (or classical liberalism) is, has been a farce for some time, at least since Neo-cons hijacked the GOP

I wrote in Kurosawa, Chaplin, Tarkovsky, and Hitchcock for 4th congressional district Republicans who were running unopposed. It also absolved me of any responsibilities for Eastern WA being a shitshow. You and I are going places. Time for others to step up and take note that it's that easy

Political threads are political. Things that pertain to politics also become political. Crazy shit. It's so weird that people are into that sort of thing.

One of the nicer parts of libertarianism, my understanding of it at least, is libertarians' appreciation for quality work. In my mind, I like to think that if there were an excellent janitor at a major company, law firm, research, etc, those that run the company would do their damnedest to make sure that janitor is paid in the top percentile of janitors, and not just treat that particular worker like a cog that can be easily replaced just because of perceived status

I'm talking about the Libertarian Party, in response to Bo Pelinis opining that Dems seem to hate Libertarians more than Republicans. My assumption is it's because Libertarians are father right than your run of the mill Republicans on many issues.
