Bitter over not being married, yes. Intrigued, gushing, wooed, yes. I cant go to say she was obsessed and in love. That's been her feelings for Jaime since she was like 5. Rhaegar excelled at everything he did. He wanted to be a musician and he was a brilliant musician. He wanted to learn about history and became an expert on history. He did everything perfect. He read he needed to be a great warrior so he trained and he studied and he became a great warrior but he never had a warriors heart. Robert hated Rhaegar with every ounce of his being. Rhaegar may have been a better fighter than Robert but there was no way Robert was leaving that ford without killing Rhaegar.
Top 5 goin back how far? If RR and forward I'd go with. Dayne Selmy Robert Jaime Mountain If you go back to include like Aegons landing forward I have to put Daemon Blackfyre top overall. He's like GRRMs version of the create-a-player where you just max each stat and attribute to 100.
I stole these teams (except C, I changed it a bit but I may have made it worse) from another board. On that board, I argued "D". "A" won on that board. The vote is pretty close in this thread but it seems like most 'in the know' folks think "D" wins easily
How have we not mentioned Gerold Hightower? I'm betting he got the nickname "the white bull" for a reason. He was also Lord Commander of a Targ Kingsguard which actually meant something. Plus he's specifically described as better than Jaime in his prime.
Can you cite that, fam? From Jaime- She is stronger than I am. The realization chilled him. Robert had been stronger than him, to be sure. The White Bull Gerold Hightower as well, in his heyday, and Ser Arthur Dayne. Amongst the living, Greatjon Umber was stronger, Strongboar of Crakehall most likely, both Cleganes for a certainty. The Mountain’s strength was like nothing human. It did not matter. With speed and skill, Jaime could beat them all.
I think it's not clear to this point where Jon stacks up. In the show he just demolished 30 dudes in one battle and killed a white walker 1v1. I think he ends up in the Jamie tier. Other than when faced with Fire, the hound is a beast too, he is right up there with the mountain. I'm projecting Jon to go down as one of the greats (not even counting the fact he can warg, commands a direwolf, and can maybe ride a dragon), so that along with Dayne being the GOAT swung me to A.
The Unsullied are all very good individual fighters, but what makes them great is how they fight as a unit. They're raised to be very disciplined and incredibly tough and they put those traits to use by fighting in a phalanx. The show has done a poor job of portraying this.
Even with Jon on the level of Dayne, Selmy, and Jaime, you're still left with the problem of Robert being better than The Hound. That's what swings it to D imo.
I don't see this as a huge selling point cause everyone on this list could do the same. Robert tore through Rhaegars army and personal guard with ease to get to him. Jaime took down dozens when ambushed in the whispering wood tryin to get to Robb including Robb's honor guard, I'm pretty sure Robb even says he'd be dead if it wasn't for one of the Karstarks blindsiding Jaime.
Then if anything, he is approaching that same level as those guys. If Jon could take Jamie and we assume Dayne mops up Selmy, both could take Robert after he finishes the Hound.
Is he different in the books than the show? Granted, we never get to see him fight anyone else with a lot of skill, but he seemed like a total beast on the show. He apparently never lost a battle, and he was bigger than almost anyone else on the show. Is it just a question of formal training in your mind?
Yeah but did dem niggas charge solo into an entire army? I ain't fuckin think so. I'm feeling like the point of Jon rn is letting us witness a legend. Not the tales of old, but our own legend that we get to see/read about wreck shit.
This is the reason I voted for A. I looked at it as if all 3 were fighting at the same time, who would leave victorious? Dayne v Selmy would have Dayne win. Hound v Robert would have Robert win. And from what I've seen of Jon, I think he'd stand up just fine against Jaime, especially with Longclaw and Ghost on his side. So then we'd have Dayne plus Jon versus Robert and that would be a slaughter in favor of Dayne. Even if Jaime did beat Jon, it would take a while and by then Dayne would've already taken out Selmy and Robert, which would lead to him taking out Jamie too. So while I could see someone thinking D, Dayne is walking out of this battle victorious.
The idea that Dayne is going to easily beat Selmy is ridiculous. It's more likely to be Robert and Selmy vs Dayne, and Ghost shouldn't factor in to this. Having a full grown dire wolf obviously tilts the scales in favor of A.
How is Ghost not one of Jon Snow's best known weapons? The OP stated each would have their best known weapons. Jon isn't going to go into a fight against those 3 without having Ghost nearby. Thread title is 3 v 3 battles not 3 v 3 sword fight. And GRRM straight up said Dayne with Dawn would beat Selmy and without Dawn it would be a good fight. To me that means that with Dawn, Dayne would win that fight in less time than Jaime or Robert would win their respective matchups.
I don't think when dude said that Dayne would mop up Selmy he meant it would be an easy win. I could be wrong but consider it him saying that Dayne would win. Which is true.
It took Dayne a while to kill the Smiling Knight, but he's going to be able to beat Selmy before Robert beats the Hound?
Lmfao at Ghost fighting with Jon. If that's the case I'll nominate the unbeatable trio of Hotpie, Patchface, and Dany.
So why would Khal Drogo lose so easily compared to most of the others? He seems pretty unbeatable on the show.
The Dothraki are horse warriors that use no metal armor and swords that give the largest benefit on horseback. Old ass Jorah Mormount was able to defeat a bloodrider in single combat because of the advantages of his armor. Dothraki destroy everything in the open field on horseback, but close quarters sword fights aren't their specialty.
Yep, literally just comes down to armor. The Dothraki don't wear any and their curved blades really can't do shit to anyone that does.
So Dayne > Selmy, Robert >> Hound, Jaime > Snow IMO. Either Robert or Jaime wreck their guy and then double team Dayne with Selmy and win.
