    I see a few possible outcomes of all this hubbub

    - UT and OU have decided they want to stay and are filling out the conference with some lower tier schools
    - UT and OU are leaving and want to fill out the conference so it's stable-ish when they leave and UT wants to get Houston off their back wrt their new campus

    When I think of the FedEx money I think of it not as much about what they will do for the Big 12 but it's more about what fedex will give to Memphis, if anything, to offset Memphis taking a lower share initially from the Big12.

    Actually the initial big 12 proposal in the early 90s was for a 16 team conference that was basically a mashup of the big 8 and swc. Texas instead decided they wanted 12 teams and added the four Texas teams to the big 8.

    the conference still holds the trademark on the Big 16 name

    The US trademark to "The Big 16" is held by Vibrant Health Products Inc., DBA Silver Hills Bakery. The Big 12 holds trademarks for the Big 8 and Big 14, along with the Big 12 (and variations on it) but not Big 16.
