The last half of the first ep of the "Love Me" podcast had me laughing audibly. It was supposed to be funny, but it's not a comedy podcast.
Reveal is really good https://www.revealnews.org/episodes/ It takes topics that maybe touched on briefly in mainstream press, and tries pretty well to flesh them out more comprehensively

Any good podcasts about politics that are strictly issue based? Like for example if I wanted to hear intelligent, level headed debate from both sides on gun control or abortion...anything like that out there?
It's exceedingly rare, even during the 80s and 90s, to have well prepared people arguing honestly and thoughtfully considering each others' points, with an even-handed presentation. Good luck on finding those.
Well someone should make one then and become rich. But I don't even need it debate style...I'll take an episode for each side.
I think Dan Carlin's common sense is pretty good but he typically mirrors my thoughts so I might just be biased.
It may have been mentioned earlier but "You Must Remember This" is excellent. Just finished the pods on the Manson Family. Fascinating.
It's been mentioned, but I only have done the Manson season. What others are close to as interesting?
Additionally - for those that have the Howl app, and are ASOIAF and Hardcore History fans - Hardcore Game of Thrones. Some dude does an impression of Dan Carlin and in the style of Hardcore History tells the story of the War of Five Kings. It's really fun. Highly recommend. THe first 3 episodes are free on any podcast app, but you have to be a member of Howl to get the rest. I Just signed up for a free trial month and then cancelled after finishing them. Huge props to lazy bum for turning me on to this Also - ESPN just started a new pod called Pin Kings. Serialized story about 2 high school wrestling teammates. One went on to be a kingpin in the Colombian Cartels, the other a DEA agent. Listened to the first 2 this morning. Pretty interesting so far. The story telling isn't as tight as Sarah's from Serial - it's just the journalist and producer talking about the story. They're releasing 1 a day for 2 weeks, then doing an hour long special on ESPN on it.
Listened to the first two episodes of Pin/Kings. The two hosts are terrible but the story seems interesting so I'll keep listening.
A PhD in history catalogs the descent and fall of the Roman Empire in this podcast https://fallofromepodcast.wordpress.com/
I'm really liking the new Caravaggio ep of History on Fire. Talks a lot about street life in Renaissance Rome and it's a subject I know little about. Already better than the Crazy Horse eps, imo.
Hi yes, I'm new to this so shower me with things. What app do people use? I'm currently only on The Ringer stuff: 1600 and Simmons, so I downloaded Stitcher for the time being and set up a few to auto-download. I'm willing to give most things a shot and have already added Common Sense, Lore, & Sword and Scale based on this thread.
I just use the iOS app but I'd be curious to hear if other people use others and what additional features they add. My current recurring list is Tim Ferriss Show Pardon My Take Start Up reply All Planet money All really good but very different subject matters so a lot depends on what type you're looking for. Then I will mix in a few randoms if I have time. The Great Debates is good for an absurd laugh
I listen to a few.. Some are: -Fitzdog Radio -Robert Kelly You know what dude -Artie Lange Quitter -Tiger Belly -Misery Loves Company -Ku and the Gang -Monday Morning Podcast (Bill Burr) -Joe Rogan Experience -Your Mom's House (Tom Segura)
One of the better ones I've heard this year. PFT and Scott's laughter after Janice Cramps' intro was great.
Megustalations, good sir. Edit: did you know if you Google search Megustalations, the third result is the Wikipedia page for Hail Satan. That's a very fun fact.
Overcast is the best app for sped up playback. It eliminates dead air and also allows you to speed it up to 2.5+ speed without it sounding like a chipmunk. You can also upload audiobooks. Highly recommend.
I wish I knew what you're talking about. It is weird to get tagged in a thread I've never posted in. I hope someone understands your reference.
Bryan Callen may be the worst recurring podcast guest out of any podcast I listen to. It feels like Rogan has him on once a month and every time I have to stop it and smh that I even bothered. The guy hardly ever knows wtf he's talking about and his shitty opinions are always based on misinterpretations of things or falsehoods. Latest podcast he tried to start a tangent about what is considered rape and sexual assault and was basically trying to say trump grabbing a chicks pussy isn't really assault. Fucking moron.
Probably why him and Joe get along so well. In other news, "The Forward", Lance Armstrong's podcast, is pretty good and has good guests.
Intelligence Squared US Debates. Takes two teams of experts and debates on a specific subject (gun control, climate change, big pharma, even cognitive life after death). The debate is properly moderated (each team gets an opening statement, a counter statement, and the ability to answer questions). The podcasts are done live at places like college campuses. They take a vote at the start to see where people side (pro, against, undecided) and a vote after (pro or against) and declare the winner based on which team had the largest % increase in people siding with their argument.
Based on this thread, I went ahead and tried listening to The Last Podcast on the Left. I find it completely insufferable. It feels like I'm listening to a Morning Zoo-type show on top 40 radio, complete with main host, sidekick, and third guy whose apparent job is to laugh constantly at any comment said by the other two guys.
