Definitely thought it would be funnier when I picked it up but was a very interesting book and a good read even though it wasn't very humorous.

I thought it was pretty funny. But it was really cool to see the data/science behind some of the experiences we've all had in the dating game.

Yeah all the graphs were interesting and surprising to me as I thought the book would be mostly comedy, but it was clear from the first few pages that it wasn't, there were still funny parts to keep the book moving but not a lot of horribly ending stories to make me feel better about my experiences

Ran to BN during lunch to pick it up.

Do most of you dudes use an eReader? I see a ton of talk about .mobi so I assume free files are being shared on certain books.

I liked my Kindle when it worked (like 2009 model) and am considering one solely to take advantage of Kindle Unlimited. Anyone have experience with that?

I don't use kindle unlimited but most of us do use ereaders and may or may not share files. I cannot confirm or deny anything. Best bang for your buck is the Kindle Paperwhite (pretty much consensus here I believe) Highly Recommend.

Why does everyone prefer the paper white over other ereaders? I have a kindle fire and set the background as black and text as white, which is nice for reading at night.

Because it's easier on the eyes. You it doesn't fatigue your eyes like a glossy screen on a normal tablet does. It's more like reading a book

I could see that being nice. Never had an issue with the fire with how I use it.

By the way, I scrolled through your list and picked out a few books I'm going to check out. Quite a few books id never heard of between everyone in this thread.

I do this on my Fire as well.

I prefer the Fire over the Paperwhite because I get Bon Appetit and The Economist delivered to it and I like the full color images. I also play Madden Mobile on it. If it was just for reading books I'd have a Paperwhite.

I enjoy reading outside a lot whether that be on my porch, at the lake or on the beach, and the e-ink of the Paperwhite and other kindles doesn't have glare in the sun like the fire. That and because it's easier on your eyes is why I prefer it

    10. Slade House - David Mitchell (7.5/10)
    11. Red Sparrow - Jason Matthews (9/10)
    12. Here & There - Joshua V. Scher (I have no clue what to rate this book. It's either the worst book I've read in years or one of the coolest. It singlehandedly killed my reading for six months. Most of the time I started to read I ended up playing Madden Mobile on my Kindle instead. It's dense, it's boring, and it's flat out genius. Can I Spliff it it's right up your alley)
    13. Palace of Treason - Jason Matthews (7/10)
    14. Band of Brothers - Stephen E. Ambrose (10/10) :americafuckyeah:

    1. Outer Dark, Cormac McCarthy (9/10)
    2. Elbow Room, James Allen McPherson (short stories) (7/10)
    3. To Some Women I Have Known, Re'Lynn Hansen (lesbian poetry) (5/10)
    4. Gun, with Occasional Music, Jonathon Lethem (re-read--dystopian detective noir, very fun book) (9/10)
    5. Hairstyles of the Damned, Joe Meno (7/10)
    6. Once Upon A River, Bonnie Jo Campbell (re-read) (9/10)
    7. Ghost Stories, anthology edited by Roald Dahl (not kids' stories, some good stuff) (7/10)
    8. Vanishing, by Gerard Woodward (9/10) (story of a failed and naive artist turned military camoufleur in WWII, really good book)
    9. Billy Ray's Farm, by Larry Brown (essays) (7.5/10)
    10. Foreign Babes in Beijing, by Rachel DeWoskin (7/10) (memoir of the author's time as an accidental Chinese TV star while over there as a marketer; better than I expected)
    11. Eating the Dinosaur, by Chuck Klosterman (essays) (9/10) (how have I not read this guy before? really enjoyed this)
    12. Laughter in the Dark, by Vladimir Nabokov (9/10) (stuffy, middle-aged German takes a mistress, disaster follows. simple, direct plot, lots of fun)
    13. Pnin, by Vladimir Nabokov (7.5/10) (mostly plotless character sketch of a Russian emigre professor. lots of Nabokovian fun with language)
    14. The Confidence Man, Herman Melville (7.5/10) (more cynical than I usually care for, and a slog of speeches in some parts, but overall a really interesting book)
    15. Fargo Rock City, Chuck Klosterman (9/10) (just as fun as the other Klosterman I've read, will read more)
    16. Benito Cereno, Herman Melville (8/10) (crisper than The Confidence Man)
    17. Billy Budd, Herman Melville (7/10) (good parts, but as a story didn't grab me much overall)
    18. Hold It 'Til It Hurts, T. Geronimo Johnson (8.5/10) (rich writing, story examines race, identity from the POV of a soldier back from ME, set against Katrina)
    19. Hey, Liberal!, Shawn Shiflett (7/10) (based on true experience, story of a white adolescent in an all-black high school in 1968/9 Chicago. interesting look into the time period)
    20. White Jacket, Herman Melville (8/10) (not so much a story as an accounting of what it was like to serve on a mid-19th Century American war ship. the flogging scenes stand out.)
    21. Day of the Locust, Nathanael West (9/10) (short novel set in Hollywood during the depression. life is hard and everything is fake, but a much better book than that simple theme)
    22. The Dream Life of Balso Snell, Nathanael West (6/10) (some funny stuff, but ultimately just very weird)
