Going in three weeks for my second straight October visit. Last year it was a bachelor party, this year my wife and I are going together. Looking forward to exploring more of the food selections and stuffing my face all weekend:feelsgoodman:

Will be in town Friday and Saturday. Wedding Saturday night.

Have a dinner reservation on Friday night for this place:
    http://toupsmeatery.com/

Staying in an AirBnB somewhere on First St.

Hoping to be in town early enough on Friday to hit up the WWII museum for a couple hours.

Anyone know of a good way to track bands/events around town? I use the BandsInTown app, and while I can see there is a lot going on, it's not the easiest schedule to navigate.

Eat at Cochon Butcher if you go to the WWII Museum (it's two blocks away). Went there last week and was blown away.

Yeah good call. I think I'll be getting in right around noon or so, which will probably be a few hours before everyone else, so it sounds like it will be a good afternoon.

Garden District seems like an odd location to stay; I would have gone with the CBD considering what you are wanting to do, but if you are on First St. I would hit up Stein's and District Donuts. Great beer selection and sandwiches at Stein's if you aren't familiar. Parasol's is also very good nearby.

I didn't have anything to do with the booking, just got asked if I wanted to join in after the fact. It may be closer to the venue for all I know. Appreciate the tips.

Yeah, plenty of churches in that area. It will be a cheap Uber/Lyft to the CBD, less than $10 with no surge.

Que Pasa Fest is happening this week/weekend if you want to get your culture on: http://www.quepasafest.com/index.php/ct-menu-item-3.html

How is using the streetcar? Our house is a block away from a stop. I know they can get packed, like any public transit. I'm more asking about timing/schedule.

It only gets packed for events like a Saints game. I can't imagine it being jammed up this weekend.

The main problem with the street car in my experience is that it is slow because jackass drivers will cut across the neutral ground and cause it to stop. It shouldn't take that long to get to the CBD from the Garden District though, particularly if you aren't riding during morning or afternoon rush hours. You just have to be patient at the stops because they can run slow due to aforementioned jackasses.

Use Google Maps Schedule Explorer feature to determine the timing and options; the NOLA RTA website is pure shit for route planning. Schedules are also posted here: http://www.norta.com/Maps-Schedules/Streetcar-Schedules-Maps.aspx

You can buy a one day pass for $3.50 with the app (http://www.norta.com/Rider-Tools/Mobile-RTA.aspx).

Street car is great. Used it all the time. If it doesn't come. Get a uber. Fuck u for not coming while I was there. If you have time. Rent bikes for a few hours and ride thrubtge quarter.

If you want to move more quickly (and still cheaply), use the bus on Magazine for downtown. It comes every twenty minutes and has a good mix of business people so you probably won't get shanked. Will go pst the WW2 museum and stop across the street from the Quarter. Surprisingly, the Transit MSY app is easy to follow,

Read the thread. Gonna be in town with 11 college buddies Friday. Busing to Baton Rouge Saturday so don't need recs for that unless you have tailgate/food options.

Any thoughts on lunch Friday (Cochon Butcher?), dinner Friday for 10 that would take a reservation (looking for authentic New Orleans and/or Cajun at a place that's trendy and fun--not stuffy or super fancy--and reasonably priced say $30-50 for food). Would greatly appreciate any bar recs, boozy brunch spots for Sunday, and lunch/bar spots to watch the NFL games Sunday too.

Sounds like Frenchman street for live music.

Staying at the Aloft hotel 225 Baronne St, New Orleans, LA 70112.

Cochon Butcher is great, and y'all will enjoy it for lunch. For dinner, I love August. It' can be a little bit more expensive than $30-$50, but it's bad ass. Atchafalaya is where you want to do brunch.

    Cochon Butcher - Friday Lunch

    Jacque-Imo's - Friday Dinner

    Elizabeth's - Saturday Breakfast

Atchafalaya - Sunday Brunch ( I still haven't been here to be honest, but really want to go)

Lunch for the games - since you'll be near Magazine head to Tracy's

We went to a place called Toup's Meatery at the beginning of the moth. I highly recommend it. Think our res was for 8 or 830, for 8, they had another 10 or 12 top in the other room so they can make it work. It's not quite all NO/Cajun, but the boudin balls were amazing, and so was everything else. We just got a bunch of different plates and shared. Might be late in the week to get a reservation, but definitely worth the look, imo.

Got to Port of Call for lunch and drink your way back through the Quarter. Warning, the first couple of blocks will be a littttle... different.

Cochon Butcher has good food, but there aren't tables for big groups and there isn't much else to see/do in the Warehouse District.

Feel free to get a monsoon at Port of Call, but do not eat there. Their burger is overrated to straight up bad; if you want a good burger near downtown just go to the new Company Burger location. Getting a to go drink and walking around the area surrounding Port of Call is nice though.

The Jacques Imo's dinner suggestion is a good one as well. You can hit up Maple Leaf bar before or afterwards.

Id say the burger is awesome to straight up awesome. And it was more about the experience - its a fun stroll for out-of-towners, especially compared to Butcher.

Boucherie, around the corner from Jacques-Imo's, is a great option too. Then you can venture down Oak St. for drinks.

Id go watch the games at My Bar, which is on Bourbon, and is relatively close to you.

Thanks, all. August is probably a little fancy for our drunk asses, and Toup's res is looking like a problem. A guy in the group suggested Acne oyster house or red fish grill. Anything objectively wrong with those for Friday night?

    I'm planning to do:

    -Friday lunch: Cochon
    -Friday dinner: ?
Sunday brunch: Atchafalaya (doesn't seem like we can get a res. is walk-in feasible?)
Sunday late lunch: Tracy's or port of call or somewhere else

Acme and RedFish Grill are both pretty unremarkable/touristy. Not bad, but you can do better. The Gumbo Shop is right around the corner and IMO better.

It was all sooo good. BBQ goat was probably the least good thing and it was still good to me, just some others at the table didn't enjoy it. Meat board was amazing, chicken liver mouse, deviled eggs, bbq shrimp, lamb neck, sweetbread poutine. Bone marrow was maybe the best. Even the pickles were good. Candied and fried pork skins were both awesome. Had a pretty tasty Manhattan too.

Friday lunch - Cochon is a good choice, but stop by the Butcher which is next door when you leave. Both are Donald Link resturaunts
    Friday dinner - Jacque Imo's
Lunch - Tracy's Irish Pub (really it's a sports bar) Ton of poboys or creole cuisine and what not. http://www.traceysnola.com/
    Sunday Brunch - Dante's Kitchen. http://danteskitchen.com/brunch-menu-test/

Most my recommendations are in the uptown area, so I'm not sure how convenient it will be for you since you're staying downtown. You should really to go to Dante's if you can.
