The show was flawed from the start because Simmons basically told people the premise was to have famous people talking about sports. He's not a good enough host to bring on rappers and actors and have them discuss sports topics. There's a reason his best conversations on the show were talking about sports and media with people like Costas and Michaels.
if he really makes 5 million a year on his podcast, he will be fine. HBO will probably buy him out for the rest of his contract. Should be north of 10 million for one year of work.
Didn't like the show at all, but hopefully this leads to him being more active with The Ringer. I need more of his articles, and his attention to the site to make it better. There are some good stuff, but a lot of shit I just refuse to click on because I hate pop culture stuff.
I like seeing people fail miserably so I hope the website goes up in flames as well. I know HBO invested into that side too. The Ringer is basically my last stop on the Internet if I'm bored at work. I was never a Grantland guy so maybe that's why it hasn't caught on with me.
Only Ringer stuff I read is Mays. He's one of my favorite football writes, like him more than Barnwell tbh.
LOL - this is going to be fun watching people pile on with their hot takes about why it was cancelled
The Ringer has definitely been better the last couple of months His podcast network is still good Never bothered to watch the show
"I like to call this the Joe Buck Theory, which is where an entitled spoiled upper class white sports personality thinks people want to watch him do a shitty late night show" - Mike Lombardi, hopefully Don't do anything dangerous Taco Sa1ad , I know this is a real dark day for you
Did not know about this beef, but am in support of it. Hopefully they both act like children and we get to watch it unfold
I think Simmons big-timed them during the early years when Pres reached out to him. Team Barstool. I'm enjoying their podcast network much more than the Ringers.
can't speak for anyone but myself, but a show premised on talking to celebrities about sports is not interesting to me at all. those were typically the bs reports that i skipped.
Pres and Simmons were both starting their thing in Boston around the same time. Like others have said, Simmons big timed Pres and Pres took it personally. As far as I know Simmons doesn't ever engage with Barstool but Pres, et al go after him quite a bit.
They were awful. People called it weeks ago that the show has only a few to go. It was by far the lowest rated show on HBO and bc they filmed a day early, it was never fresh and never generated any discussion. When's the last time you talked to someone about a great agw piece? Never. Never is the answer.
It's really weird to me that people are so interested in a guy who does podcasts and had a half hour show on HBO Wednesday nights. Like, I get when people get sick of ESPN personalities because they're impossible to avoid. It's really, really easy to ignore Simmons.
that was really good its strange how good he can be in that setting but so awkward and stilted on Any Given Wednesday
My podcast app tells me Gucci Mane is on Bill's latest episode. Cant wait to listen to that hour of awkwardness
