Yeah I gave those two 5s and nothing else higher than 3. I hope this survey, with mostly die hards, only cares about winning and a rowdy crowd
There's no meeting today, he's going to the Merkel-Obama dinner. Also the word is there's been talks between USSF and Vermes and Arena.
http://www.si.com/soccer/2013/03/21/bruce-arena-us-national-team TL,DR; Bruce wants more American born players on the team, not so many born in other countries.
TL,DR Bruce is dumb. Bring in the best players to have the best possible team. Jurgens problem hasn't been all the foreign players he's brought in, it's that he's not playing them at their best positions and it's causing the team to not play up to its potential. Jurgen is a great motivator, very likable and being from Germany he seems to have a much better idea of how the youth systems in our country should be set up. He's never been anything special tactically though and he way too often just does stuff based on feel. Sometimes it works out and he looks like a genius, other times it fails miserably and he looks like an idiot. At the least he's improved our youth setup and improved the overall talent on our roster. If we brought back an old timer like Arena I fear he would cancel out any good Jurgen has done by making everything go back to the way it was. If they fire Jurgen I want a new voice brought in who would also have new ideas, not some old retread who's already coached the team for 8 years a decade ago.
I completely agree. Going back to a retread would be a disaster. The only way it would work is if it was as an interim coach. Basically get us qualified for the world cup, coach the world cup, and then you're out.
I see both sides. Some people see a National team as the extension of grassroots soccer and foreign players help a team win but say little about a country's player development. The extreme example is Algeria where most of the team was French born and raised. If they win the world cup you can't really say Algerian grassroots soccer development is on the rise. However, as a fan, I'd rather get the best players. Canada just got Scott Arfield who has never lived in Canada and I don't care because he can help us finally make a World Cup while I'm alive (in 2022 ).
I don't care if they burn American flags and put ketchup on their hot dogs in their free time. I just want to win.
Would rather keep Jurgen than Arena. Why would Arena be any different this time around? We've seen what he can do already. No thanks.
JK always says he welcomes discussion, but when there's criticism, he likes to drop the whole Americans don't really understand the sport. And he does it again here. “I’m not afraid,” Klinsmann said. “What you need to do is stick to the facts. Soccer is emotional and a lot of people make conclusions without knowing anything about the inside of the team or the sport. I still believe we will get the points we need to qualify, and I am even confident we could win the group.” He added: “The fact is, we lost two games. There is a lot of talk from people who don’t understand soccer or the team.” http://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/21/sports/jurgen-klinsmann-national-team.html?_r=1
Unfortunately it taints any of the success. Assembling a team of players from all over the world is why club soccer exists. The only reason to have International soccer is if you have teams made up of players from one country. If we don't care where the players are from why even have registration rules?
teams in Europe do the same shit. how many guys who played for France were born in Africa over the years?
I don't like the rule either, but while it's in place I hope the USMNT continues to take advantage of it to get the best players possible in the pool.
Your nationality >>> where you were born. I want Americans on the US team. Don't care where they are from.
I'm not arguing against people who were born elsewhere that grew up in America. I'm talking about guys who've never lived in the US, played for Germany, then decided to play for the US when they're 28. It's absurd. Imagine if college football worked that way. "Yo, I know my QB goes to college at Oregon State, but his grandpa went to UofO so it's cool if he plays for us."
If he transferred you'd embrace him though See: Trevor Knight, Brett Favre, Johnny Damon, Kevin Durant, Cesc Fabregas, a billion others
That's true. I already said if they had moved here and grown up here that is a different situation. Edit: I just looked at your examples and they're mostly pretty poor examples.
I will gladly accept anyone who wants to play under the red, white, and blue. I don't care where they were born, where they grew up, etc. All I care about is that they will give our national team 100% effort and dedication when they're called upon.
So why are you committed to rooting the US Men's National Team? Why not just root for the German Men's National Team?
I wish FIFA would make the rules stricter. You should only be able to qualify through your parents not your grandparents. You shouldn't be able to naturalize and play unless you lived in the country as a youth and moved there for non-football related reasons. Now as the rules are written I don't have a problem with using them to our advantage. Everybody else does as well.
