The 3rd book is done per Rothfuss, it's just a shitty version he's not happy with, at least that's the gist from his podcast several months ago

sounds about right. I know he is extremely self conscious about his work. Suffers from anxiety too I believe.

He compared his amount of self editing to Sanderson's amount of writing. Same amount of words, Just being rewritten hundreds of times and the other writing numerous lengthy books.

I've read that he can revise the same section 80+ times. Look, I've done a lot of revision but if he's talking completely rewriting a piece that's an insane amount.

    I just started Elantris. :idk:

I know there is a whole cosmere world that most of his works are wrapped into (loosely right now), so I googled and found a reddit page that discussed the best order to read his currently available books. Elantris was listed as the first to read on that list and a few others.

With regards to the cosmere there isn't really a set order yet. Elantris is Sanderson's first novel. It's good but imo his weakest. Keeps getting better from there.

What is WoW? Wheel of Wime? World of Warcraft?

Once Rothfuss publishes his final book, I'll get started on this trilogy. I am pretty excited to start, but want to get all 3 back to back to back.

Finished yesterday. I was apprehensive about starting this series because outside of ASOIAF, Im really not a huge fantasy genre guy. The first book was pretty meh imo. The second was much better in the second half. I just get impatient with long meandering The Odyssey stories with side track after side track.

Having said that, I really enjoyed the second half after he left the school, and am looking forward to where this is going and seeing Kvothe b
Im not sure how long Kvothe's absence from the school was, but he was 18 when he left. So around 20 give or take a year

Lin-Manuel Miranda Boards ‘Kingkiller Chronicle’ Film, TV Series Adaptation
    NOVEMBER 29, 2016 | 10:28AM PT

Lionsgate has tapped “Hamilton” star and creator Lin-Manuel Miranda to serve as creative producer and musical mastermind of feature film and TV series adaptations of “The Kingkiller Chronicle,” along with author Pat Rothfuss.

Miranda has an option to be involved in future stage productions as well. He will serve as producer of the franchise and is expected to compose the original music and write the songs. Rothfuss is an executive producer for both film and television.

The film script is being penned by Lindsey Beer, one of the “Transformers 5” screenwriters. It will be based on the first book, “The Name of the Wind.”

Lin-Manuel Miranda said, “Pat Rothfuss’ ‘Kingkiller’ books are among the most read and re-read in our home. It’s a world you want to spend lifetimes in, as his many fans will attest. Pat also writes about the act of making music more beautifully than any novelist I’ve ever read. I can’t wait to play a part in bringing this world to life onscreen.”

Lionsgate said Miranda and Rothfuss will be intimately involved in the development of the new characters and storylines explored in the TV show. As previously announced, Robert Lawrence will produce for film and television.

“The best way to service Pat Rothfuss’ unique and ambitious view was to invent a new way of adapting it with Lionsgate’s film and television teams working side-by-side, which meant that only a multi-hyphenate talent like Lin-Manuel Miranda could do the job,” said Erik Feig, co-president of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group. “Lin is an incomparable talent and a huge fan of the trilogy and, working closely with Pat, his creative oversight of the franchise will bring an incredible level of detail and continuity to all of the projects.”

Lionsgate announced last year that it was developing a movie, TV show and videogame based on the fantasy series “The Kingkiller Chronicle.”

The series is centered on the wizard Kvothe, who survives a tragic childhood to become a notorious household name. “The Kingkiller Chronicle” series of books and novellas has sold 10 million copies, and the first two books — “The Name of the Wind” and “The Wise Man’s Fear” — were New York Times bestsellers.

    Awesome. Should be amazing.

The screenplay being written by someone who wrote Transformers 5 is a huge concern though.

Yeah, I read them a few years ago, and will probably reread sometime in the next few months (or just wait until the third book's release data is announced). I still remember most of the core storylines though.

Heck, if I remember correctly, some of you here turned me onto the trilogy. Many thanks for that.

I'll for sure be re-reading when Doors of Stone has a confirmed release date.

But, much like Winds of Winter and Thorns of Emberlain, that date continues to get pushed further and further.

    Luckily we have Lord Sanderson

Just finished book 2 and I love that there is so much left to be explained, but like others have mentioned I don't see how he does it in one book. Just finishing out Kvothe's story feels like it would take at least two books to do it justice, let alone other full-length stories in the same world.

The fan theories out there are interesting.
It definitely would not surprise me to find out Denna is Faen. I don't think it makes any sense for Kvothe to be a Chandrian/Faen but I do think it makes sense that he is Meluan Lackless' nephew.

Figured "Fuck, there's gotta be a thread on TMB about this".

I have a feeling it'll be out Fall 2017/Spring 2018 but that's just based on random shit I've read on the Kingkiller Chronicle subreddit. Supposedly draft 1 has been done for nearly a decade and it's just been years of revisions. I believe there is a Q&A session re: TDoS once his worldbuilders charity hits 2 mil and it's at 1.6 now.
