from early this spring idk saw where he wanted a 400m contract lol but still just a topic for discussion. if money wasnt an issue, WOULD YOU WANT HIM? -- Atlanta Braves: They've spent the past 14 months tearing down and collecting young talent as they start the rebuilding process. Gone are Jason Heyward, Justin Upton, Craig Kimbrel, Andrelton Simmons and Shelby Miller. Other than shortstop prospect Dansby Swanson, acquired in the Miller trade, most of the prospects acquired have been pitchers, so there will be need for lineup reinforcement once the pitching matures. Beyond 2016, the only long-term commitments are Freddie Freeman, Nick Markakis (who would be off the books by the time Harper hits free agency), Julio Teheran and Hector Olivera. But that's only $40 million on the 2019 payroll -- leaving money to go after Harper and get Braves excited about that new stadium that will be open by then.
GM to squeezed-out Braves pitchers: ‘If you don’t like it, get better’ “We’re moving to the new (SunTrust Park) and we made this decision,” Braves president of baseball operations John Hart said, “and I’m sure there’s been a lot of banter about this: Are we better by pitching these (young) guys, don’t stand in their way, give them another chance? Or letting them go develop and be pitcher six, seven, eight (among starters), as we’re going to need pitchers as we go. And develop a finishing pitch. Develop a little better command, tighten their mechanics down, get a little mentally tougher. We opted for that (latter). Let them finish their development. As for the notion that some feelings might be hurt among young pitchers getting squeezed out of the rotation, Coppolella fairly scoffed at that. “As far as the way our pitchers feel, this may not be (politically correct), but if you don’t like it, get better,” he said. “There’s been a lot of opportunities handed out here. There’s been a lot of pitchers pitching where, frankly, I’m – I don’t want to way embarrassed for the Braves franchise, but where a gold-standard franchise like the Braves should be a lot better…. “If you feel like you’ve been slighted, or you have gotten a chance, or you’re mad that we brought somebody better, pitch better. Get better. We don’t owe anybody anything. The best pitchers are going to pitch for us, and if you don’t like it, get better.” Hart added that if they look over their shoulders, those pitchers will also see a “herd” of elite Braves pitching prospects coming up behind them in another two or three years, if not sooner.
Supposedly a bidding war could materialize between the nats and sox for Sale. Nats winning and giving up a ton is best case scenario for us.
Don't mind this development one bit. There are no shortcuts in a rebuild, be patient and stay the course.
yea, I was hoping for the Nats to completely ruin their future for him. Win a WS then become the phillies right as our studs are breaking in.
I'm not so sure that's any better than the Shelby trade. They are comparable imo. Coppy is a fucking wizard.
it is nice knowing the phillies are gonna suck for a while fuck ryan howard and jimmy rollins always batting .450 against us
Yea they got a couple of high upside, high bust rate guys it seems. I'd want something more guaranteed for Sale.
Swanson and Moncada are pretty comparable. Some think Moncada is the top prospect in baseball. He was the baseball america minor league player of the year last year.
I see Turner, Swanson, Bregman, Moncada to be on the same tier as future franchise building blocks. I thought whichever team gave one up would get him. I thought it would take way more though.
and he's had a PED suspension and isn't even a top 50 prospect on most lists. Good chance he busts. Stuff is definitely electric though.
Considering i dont see us in any world series by 2019 (end of sale's contract) I would of been pissed to give up that much of our future development for him
Alex: If I’m the white sox do I push to trade Quintana for Albies + pitching? A Moncada-Anderson-Albies-Abreu IF would be absolutely nuts. 12:05 Dave Cameron: I’d want a lot more than Albies, and the Braves young pitchers are mostly bad. Mat: The Braves were supposedly trying to have their rebuild wrap up around the time they opened SunTrust Park. How far away are they from being legit playoff contenders again? 12:44 Dave Cameron: At least another year, probably 2. TKDC: Is the return for Shelby Miller better than the return for Sale if you use hindsight to judge Incierte and Swanson (and Blair)? 12:48 Dave Cameron: It’s probably not better, but it’s close. Swanson has gained value since the trade, so it’s not really fair to compare what he is now to what Moncada is now.
