I was massively sidetracked on my reading and had to put Golden Sun down after I started. Restarted and about 45% now. Enjoying it more than Red Rising, hopefully you do the same.
Finished Golden Son. I'll post later with more detailed thoughts, but Spoiler Oh damn that ending. Great stuff. No idea where things go from here. The Mustang/Darrow narrative is compelling. Love Sevro. Very close to a 9 for me. Only thing that kept this at an 8.5 is I thought the middle dragged just a bit. But the final third was excellent IMO.
Finished the series. Thoroughly enjoyed that. And I REALLY think the film adaptation should be enjoyable. For the record, the entire time I read the book, I pictured this guy as the perfect actor to play Sevro: Spoiler
I really liked this series is there another anyone would suggest? Something fast paced and lots of action? I am torn on if this book would make a good movie. I agree that the budget needed would be huge to do it right.
This is funny because I just read this post last night This series is great though. Almost regret reading through them so fast.
What a fantastic series. Was sitting at 84% finished of the 3rd book like how are they going to wrap this up? Spoiler Ragnar Love the idea of them making this a mini-series, like the idea of them making a movie, hate the idea of him expanding this past a trilogy. Just let the greatness stand
just finished. series 8/10, last book was my favorite. Spoiler hated when lorn, fitchner died, really hated when ragnar got got. thought most things were pretty predictable (darrow ending up with mustang, mustang ending up sovereign). so i was seriously upset when i just knew cassius was breaking good and then killed sevro, wtf. glad he lived another day to wank off in the bushes and bang victra some more (did it ever mention her at the end??)
Just finished Red Rising today, really enjoyed it even though it took me a long time to read it. Will be getting the next two in electronic format, imagine i will be reading at my desk when I should be working and will finish each one in about a week. Great universe, really well done action, some nice twists, looking forward to starting Golden Son soon.
Haven't read anything in here yet as the thread title says it may contain Book 3 spoilers. I just finished Book 2, a few thoughts Spoiler So when I started Red Rising, I really hated the first 15% or so, basically anything up until the war games start. The plot is not very original and Darrow is very much a Gary Stu type character, especially in book 1. However I just couldn't put it down, its very fast paced and exciting, and I started to care about the characters, esp (and forgive spelling, I am listening to the audiobooks) Darrow, Sevro and of course Mustang. I liked book 2 a lot better, the betrayal at the end was foreshadowed a little too heavily, the Roque and Jackal betrayal you saw coming a mile away, but it still hurt. Interested to see how book 3 starts.
I kind of agree though (not really spoilers but still) Spoiler I thought his struggles with confidence and kind of his internal conflicts suppressed some of the Gary Stu tendencies. I agree that he was too good at everything, but at least he had some flaws that detracted from him. It's definitely fast paced. I think that's probably the biggest strength of it. It's unique in SFF as it basically doesn't have much fat in the story.
I have about 150 pages left in Book 6 of the Dark Tower series and then I'll read the final book, but I plan to read this series after. My roommate read them and said they're great.
Pretty excited about Iron Gold. Spoiler Darrow's action during the battle with Roque are going to come back to haunt them re: screwing over the moon lord
I can't believe I just started to finally read the series. I just blew through Red Rising and fucking loved it. I thought the storyline and character development were awesome. I'll be starting Golden Son right away.
Just finished the series tonight. Spoiler I really enjoyed the first one, thought #2 took a step back for most of it, but the ending was so badass that it redeemed it. Thought #3 was the best overall. Thought the twists of deaths (and Sevro returning) ended up playing really well/hurt in all the right places. Texted dcon79 after the Darrow/Cassius conversation while drinking in Morning Star that it was very reminiscent of a certain discussion in season 3 of The Wire. Great stuff. Happy so many on this board said good things.
I read and write 10+ hours a day at work. It kills my desire to come home and read. That's why it took me so long to read the dark tower. I have a 16 hours in the car in a couple weeks though so that will be one book.
I just finished the trilogy. Fucking awesome. 10 out of 10. It blows Hunger Games out of the water. Morning Star was an emotional roller coaster for me and I normally don't get quite that invested in books. Spoiler I was legitimately pissed off when Sevro "died". I continued thinking that it had to be a ploy involving Cassius, Darrow, and Mustang but when it went on for so long I gave up on the idea...pissed off at Darrows stupidity again letting an enemy live that needed to die. I let out an audible "Fuck yes" when I realized their scheme and Sevro was "resurrected".
Short story coming out May 10th about the rise of the Sons of Ares. Had no idea this was coming. Im excited. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/31178398-sons-of-ares
I misunderstood what these were. They're not short stories, but comic books. Makes it a bit less exciting, but I think I may still check it out. I dont really read comics, but I cant not know about the rise of the Sons of Ares
Shit. I thought it was a short story too. I am not a comic fan at all. But I love this series so much I have to read it anyway.
Started red rising yesterday, about halfway through Hot take Spoiler I'm thinking that the girl who called Darrow a pixie that he thinks it's beautiful, and just ran into her on the horse out in the field ends up being Eo somehow
How are the Sons of Ares comics? I've never read comics, so not sure how the story would come out like in a novel.
I DL'd the first one. Read the first 3 pages, and quit because I just couldn't bring myself to read a comic
Having literally never read a comic book in my life I just can't bring myself to read it even though I want to learn more about the origin of the Sons of Ares.
About 60% through red rising Spoiler didn't see Titus being a red coming. There's got to be something like that with sevro. Definitely more to his character than meets the eye. Somehow he's like a planted NPC put there by people trying to protect Darrow? Idk. Looking forward to the upcoming encounter between Darrow and the jackal, who I'm picturing as kind of like the Hulk right now
