Easy there. Jason Mantzoukas is hilarious. They just went waaaay over-the-top with Rafi-esque shenanigans on Brooklyn Nine Nine.
He's a male version of Leslie Jones, he plays one character that ceased being funny after he killed one show.
Meh that seems like a poor comparison. If you hear him through other mediums (i.e. the 'How Did This Get Made?' podcast) then I think you'd feel differently. Think Clown Baby and others would back that up. Also I would say The League in general became significantly less funny after the first few seasons. Not sure really sure why the blame would go to a bit character like Rafi.
I think both sides have valid points. Jason Mantzoukas is hilarious on HDTGM, was a perfect Dennis Feinstein on P&R, and has been generally funny in most bit roles he's been in. But The League became a shit show because of a lot of things. Early Rafi was great as a small, recurring character but once they started basing storylines around him (and fucking Taco too), they warped the entire show and cheapened the character. I don't blame him for that trainwreck, I blame the writers for ridiculous plot lines and increased cameos. What was once a show about fantasy football rooted in reality became basically a Doug Ellin fever dream.
Of course I am not blaming the actor for the writers that is why I said Rafi. It was the same annoying unfunny character in both shows. The actor might be funny but "Rafi" sucked in The League and B99.
I loved seeing holt just completely opposite of his personality. Saying he would skin them was great.
so this is relevant. http://uproxx.com/sepinwall/brooklyn-nine-nine-teasers/3/ interview with mike schur about cold opens. i fucking died watching this week and I loved this interview complete with past cold opens from office, parks, Brooklyn 99 (and of course probably my favorite ever from cheers)
"Why would you bring that up?" Braugher is a fucking treasure. He deserves more recognition for this role.
I convinced my girlfriend to start watching the show. Just means I get to watch from the beginning. Show has definitely grown/improved.
