This is amazing on many levels: the outfits, the host [who died from lung cancer] smoking on the air, the confrontational set up, the chanting, the host talking about the size of Ron Paul's balls, Ron Paul's rip on the fat guy, etc. The whole thing is worth a watch but the last few minutes are probably the best.
I'm only 4 minutes in, but what in the holy fuck even is this show? This is like watching TV in the Watchmen universe.
Morton Downey show, not sure if that was the name. It essentially the progenitor of the in your face talk show
So now that there's no longer an economic conservative party in the US, what may be the next couple steps for people with that mindset?
Time for your weekly shaming, Libertarians. You were not left enough to stop this, you are an enabler. Now prepare to be showered by platitudes.
I wasn't shaming them? Usually there are a lot of good discussions with Nelson and Rabid and co., though they sometimes end on bad tones. Unless they voted for Trump (they didn't), there's not really an avenue for shaming right now against the libertarians that I'm angling for
Web forums generally aren't a good place to claim safe spaces. If any Lefties or GOPers want to criticize Libertarians (which I'm not really sure Spliff did or tried to), they're more than welcome to
To continue our conversation...my point is that things proceed as normal. Nothing has changed for Libertarians, in truth There may be some things accomplished by this government that Libertarians can laud, and many more than we do not. That's pretty typical of any government in my lifetime. The Libertarian criticism of the GOP has always been that it panders for small government votes, then frequently increases spending and attacks civil liberties. This appears par for the course
Spliff was asking a legit question, imo the taxation-is-theft guys will come in and out occasionally, I suggest you save your vitriol for them
A person selling blue hats that say "MAKE FASCISTS AFRAID AGAIN" would probably pull in at least $100K in the current environment
Though, come to think of it, asthma's 'shaming' post is actually a lot more telling about what his priorities are with regard to how someone in his position chooses to side with the current goings-on. That is, perhaps more of his identity is tied in with the party than his principles. This tends to hint at my usual criticisms of free-market stuff, ie fanboy-ism with a product or group or ideologue, rather than learned, sober evaluation of these things. It's good to see y'all are taking pains to not fall in to that trap
I can't help myself from seeing the exact same situation in Washington, presently, as I'm reading about from Cuba's second crisis period in 1900-1930: "But the names of the candidates or the parties do not mean very much. The real essence of politics, the interplay of programs and ideas, did not exist. Conservatives changed positions with Liberals and vice versa; the political struggle was limited to differing slogans and the personal appeal of individuals. The real objective was to gain power in order to distribute positions and privileges among followers. Speaking in the Chamber of Representatives: José Antonio González Lanuza, a professor at the University of Havana and an honest man, acutely defined the political mechanism in Cuba: 'Our political parties are merely cooperatives organized for bureaucratic consumption.'"
Hasn't been a conservative party in a long time and I doubt we see one again, which is a shame because we desperately need one. Conservative seems to relate more with morals than fiscal responsibility.
yall did nominate and elect him but I'd try to distance myself too is this where you insinuate that my wife has had an affair
I would love some conservatives. Look after the environment, be wary of wars, cautious and slow. Ha nah, let's scrap our alliances and trade partnerships and blow it all up woo while we write checks.
While acting terrified of countries a half a world away with no air force or navy who couldn't possibly wage any semblance of a war on our soil but they are extremist
