Not at all my uncle before he passed away was the Director of Economics at UNAM (largest university in Latin America ) and had written seven books on the Mexican economy, we had this discussion several times. Till Mexico cleans up its pervasive corruption that reaches into every aspect of life it will never leave the Third World, and guess what corruption in Mexico isn't going anywhere nor are the cartels. PRI was able to keep the "peace" somewhat for so many years because they were outright on the take and had silent truce with the cartels.

How nuts is it that they are top 15 in the world in GDP even with that level of corruption? If they ever got their act together they might be a downright economic powerhouse.

Fuck yeah. I am down for that

Yeah, I agree the ingredients for a economic power is there. Great location, access to ports on Atlantic and pacific....oil, timber, tourism, precious metals, neighbors with the USA (easy access to the worlds strongest market).......but Mexico is way to corrupt, and the gap from the have and have nots is still large right now (lack of a strong middle class)

I want to write a sweet movie about a war between two rival cartels and the personal vendetta between their two leading hitmen played by Javier Bardem and Del Toro. I feel like that would be cool

Notorious drug lord Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman Loera has been recaptured six months after he staged an escaped from Mexico's most secure prison, according to the country's president.

Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto wrote on his Twitter account on Friday: 'mission accomplished: we have him'.

'My appreciation to the Security Cabinet of the Government of the Republic for this important achievement for the rule of law in Mexico,' he added.

Mexican marines captured El Chapo during a raid in the city of Los Mochis, located in the kingpin's home state of Sinloa. Five people were killed and one marine wounded in the raid.

The Mexican Navy said in a statement that marines acting on a tip raided a home in the town of Los Mochis before dawn. They were fired on from inside the structure. Five suspects were killed and six others arrested. The marine's injuries were not life threatening.

This is the second time that El Chapo has been recaptured after using his influence to break out of prison

At the home marines seized two armored vehicles, eight long guns, one handgun and a rocket-propelled grenade launcher

Guzman faces multiple federal drug trafficking indictments in the U.S. as well as Mexico, and was on the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration's most-wanted list.

After Guzman was arrested on February 22, 2014, the U.S. said it would file an extradition request, though it's not clear if that happened.

The Mexican government at the time vehemently denied the need to extradite Guzman, even as many expressed fears he would escape as he did in 2001 while serving a 20-year sentence in the country's other top-security prison, Puente Grande, in the western state of Jalisco.

El Chapo has been on the run since July, when he used an elaborate underground tunnel to break out of a maximum-security prison in central Mexico.

Altiplano, considered the most secure of Mexico's federal prisons, also houses Zetas drug cartel leader Miguel Angel Trevino, and Edgar Valdes Villarreal, known as 'La Barbie,' of the Beltran Leyva cartel.

Guzman dropped by ladder into a hole 30 feet deep that connected with a tunnel about 5 feet-6 inches high that was fully ventilated and had lighting, Rubido said.

Authorities also found tools, oxygen tanks and a motorcycle adapted to run on rails that they believe was used to carry dirt out and tools in during the construction.

The tunnel terminated in a half-built house in a farm field, according to radio transmissions among authorities, who cordoned off the structure that sits atop a small rise with a clear view of the prison. They would not confirm the location of the end of the tunnel directly to the AP.

Guzman's cartel is known for building elaborate tunnels beneath the Mexico-U.S. border to transport cocaine, methamphetamines and marijuana, with ventilation, lighting and even railcars to easily move products.

This is the second time that El Chapo has been recaptured after using his influence to break out of prison.

He was first caught by authorities in Guatemala in 1993, extradited and sentenced to 20 years in prison on drug-trafficking-related charges.

Many accounts say he escaped in 2001 in a laundry cart, although there have been several versions of how he got away. What is clear is that he had help from prison guards, who were prosecuted and convicted.

During his first stint as a fugitive, Guzman transformed himself into arguably the most powerful drug trafficker in the world. His fortune was estimated at more than $1 billion, according to Forbes magazine, which listed him among the 'World's Most Powerful People,' ranked above the presidents of France and Venezuela.

He finally was tracked down to a modest beachside high-rise in the Pacific Coast resort city of Mazatlan, where he had been hiding with his wife and twin daughters. He was captured in the early morning of Feb. 22, 2014, without a shot fired.

Before they reached him, security forces went on a several-day chase through Culiacan, the capital of Sinaloa state. They found houses where Guzman supposedly had been staying with steel-enforced doors and the same kind of lighted, ventilated escape tunnels.

I get this sentiment but obviously the big players aren't who get hurt the most by torrenting movies. It's actually the writers who get hurt most because they get residuals based on rentals and purchases, not the theatrical release. That said a movie like this the writers probably did fine, but torrenting indies can actually have a tangible affect. That said I still visit that SoCal city from time to time. L

Mexican hitwoman claims she has sex with corpses after beheading them and drinks the blood of the dead
    • Juana claims to have sex with beheaded corpses and drink their blood
    • 'La Peque' hitwoman worked for one of Mexico's most dangerous cartels
    • The convict made the startling declaration from her California jail cell
    By JENNIFER GUAY FOR MAILONLINE

    PUBLISHED: 11:16 EST, 13 July 2016 | UPDATED: 12:09 EST, 13 July 2016

A hitwoman for one of Mexico’s most notorious cartels has made a stunning confession from her California jail cell: she claims to have had intercourse with beheaded corpses and drank their blood.

Mexican media reports that 28-year-old Juana – also known as ‘La Peque’ (the little one) – of the ruthless Zetas cartel made the admission from a Baja, California prison.

Juana said: ‘Ever since I was a little girl I was a rebel, and then became a drug addict and an alcoholic.’

Juana was born in Hidalgo, near Mexico City. She became pregnant at 15 by a man 20 years her senior.

To support herself and her child, she worked as a prostitute – until delving into the dangerous cartel world.

Juana said she got her start as a ‘halconeo’ – a lookout for police and army patrols, according to Central European news.

Her job entailed standing at a lookout point for eight hours at a time. If she failed, Juana said she was tied up and fed a single taco per day.

During her time working for the cartel she bore witness to a host of gruesome moments, including a man’s head being smashed open with a mace.

‘I remember feeling sad and thinking I did not want to end up like that,’ said Juana.

Her aversion to blood did not last long, however.

28-year-old Jauna worked as a prostitute until beginning her cartel career as a lookout for police and army

At first, Juana was put off by the blood and gore involved in Mexico's perilous cartel world – then she claims she became excited by violent scenes

Local news site Denuncias claims Juana began to ‘feel excited by it, rubbing myself in it and bathing in it after killing a victim.’

‘I even drank it when it was still warm,’ she alleged.

Denuncias said Juana ‘insinuated’ at having ‘had sex with the cadavers of those decapitated, using the severed heads as well as the rest of their bodies to pleasure herself'.

‘La Peque’ is still awaiting sentencing in California.
