how crazy would that be, busting out of your cell but staring at walls and tunnels and then the realization.. fuck, now what?
That moment where Sweat (heh) is chipping away at that impossible wall when he realizes that the steampipe next to him has been turned off... Don't ever give up. At least, not until they shoot you in the shoulder and drag you back to solitary.

everyone's probably read this (or is at least familiar with the story), but figured with today's news, this was worth a repost http://nymag.com/news/features/39593/
I just finished History's 2-part series on D.B. Cooper. It aired Sunday and Monday night. "D.B. Cooper: Case Closed?" It was pretty solid. . . .4 hours long, where 4 guys follow leads, old and new. Best thing I've seen on the story to date.

http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2016/09/the-original-underclass/492731/ i thought this was a good article that described certain misconceptions about the "white working class" and did a good job of explaining their perception and reasons they support Trump.

The Iconoclast JIM ALLISON HAS ALWAYS GONE HIS OWN WAY—AS A SMALL-TOWN-TEXAS KID WHO PREFERRED BOOKS TO FOOTBALL, AND AS A YOUNG SCIENTIST WHO BELIEVED THE IMMUNE SYSTEM COULD TREAT TUMORS WHEN FEW OTHERS DID. AND THAT IRREVERENCE LED HIM TO FIND A POTENTIAL CURE FOR CANCER. http://www.texasmonthly.com/articles/jim-allison-and-the-search-for-the-cure-for-cancer/ Really interesting read.

Keep telling people about this article and keep seeing shit in the new about overdoses and always think back to this. I realize with all the political shit going on this isn't selling "papers" so to speak, but its getting worse. Saw a story about an hour or two north of me where they typically had 2 OD's a month. Up until 17 days into the year they already had 9 deaths. I'll look for the article but I've seen more than a few.
Couple articles detailing the Zanesville Animal Massacre (old guy keeping 50+ exotic animals on his property in Ohio, lets them all loose and then commits suicide, cops had to put the animals down before they hurt anyone) - here's a play by play of the event, pretty harrowing shit - http://www.esquire.com/news-politics/a12653/zanesville-0312/ here's more detail and post-mortem of the event http://www.gq.com/story/terry-thompson-ohio-zoo-massacre-chris-heath-gq-february-2012
yeah there was a thread about it back when these articles came out. i couldn't stop reading the first one, unbelievable situation, felt so horrible for the animals and the cops that had to put them down. Shitty deal all the way around.

This topic has gotten talked about a lot lately but it's something I find fascinating and this is a good article on it. (The correlation between drug addiction and lack of economic opportunity/the opiate epidemic in rural America) THE ADDICTS NEXT DOOR West Virginia has the highest overdose death rate in the country. Locals are fighting to save their neighbors—and their towns—from destruction. http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2017/06/05/the-addicts-next-door
Good article. The damage that shit has done in rural America is really staggering. Obviously its being felt across the board but the places described are just absolutely decimated.
Article on the garbage fire that is Fox Sports and all the layoffs http://awfulannouncing.com/fox/jami...al.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
What's sort of fascinating to me is how different he is than El Chapo. El Chapo seemed to like the celebrity of his position. There were photos of him....and plenty of tales of how he'd go out to eat in public to good restaurants....have his men take all of the phones of the diners in the restaurant and hten pay for all of their meals when he was done. But, this fucker just runs a huge empire from completely undeground.
I especially liked the parts where when he wasn't promoted he just said fuck it and went to war. Created his own cartel and that was that. The parts regarding the submarines and the Israeli paramilitary shit was great too. Using diversion to get away. Last but not least, his career was propelled by US Federal prison. Similar to Russians, who literally have a career path in prisons within the mafia. Gets released and Mexicans hired him as a police officer. Nice process!
Touching piece, with video at bottom, of Japanese men and their silicone sex dolls. If you think of it as an early interation on the way to a Westworld type future, then it's not that creepy. These men are pioneers. https://correspondent.afp.com/close-and-personal-rubber-sex-dolls-japan
