How much of the WWII museum did you get to do? I was really looking forward to going through it when I was there in October. Was there for 2 hours, went through the DDay exhibit and saw the Tom Hanks movie and then ran out of time. Soooo much more to do there, didn't even get my soldier to follow with the dogtags.

We were there for about 3ish hours. Didn't get to do the full European theater before they started kicking folks out. Great museum, and like you wish we had more time.

Nola bros/recent visitors: Helping to plan a bachelor party in May, trying to decide between a few hotels.

    Looking at:
    -Hyatt - French Quarter
-Hilton Garden Inn - French Quarter/CBD
    -Aloft New Orleans Downtown
    -Hotel Monteleone
-Royal Sonesta - Bourbon Street/French Quarter

Price isn't really a factor, as I've got a contact that's been able to get decent rates at all of them. Anyone have any insight/suggestions? Good or bad experiences?

Not a local, but I've stayed at the Monteleone and the Royal Sonesta. Would recommend both, although Sonesta is directly on Bourbon street so it may be louder. Not sure if that would be a concern for a bachelor party. Have had friends stay at that Hyatt and it isnt bad, either.

There are a lot of creature comforts that go along with a hotel that aren't as easy to find with a VRBO/AirBNB when you're talking about a bachelor party or big group. At 25, it wasn't as big of a deal for me to crash on a couch or a pullout or even share a bed. In my thirties, I don't mind paying a little bit extra for comfort.

The Roosevelt is my favorite hotel down there, but not sure it'd be the best for a bachelor party. If budget isn't a concern, the Royal Sonesta is probably ideal for a bachelor party.

If you don't stay Monteleone at least go to the Carousel Bar for a drink.

I stayed at Sonesta once. Great location and hotel.

If money is no option I'd just find out who has the best pool.

    How many people are going?

IL we rented a big house on basically the corner of esplanade and bourbon with beds for everyone and a a couple nice courtyards to hang out in. Much better for big groups to congregate imo. We had a crawfish boil catered in the courtyard, can all sit around and booze while we make plans. Houses are much better for larger groups imo

Fair. It completely depends on the house and the group. I've done both and enjoyed both.

You'd be fine at all of those hotels, but I'd stay at the Royal Sonesta. You're in the heart of Bourbon, but I'm assuming that's something you want.

It's a tourist trap that is in no way representative of the city and its charm. It's essentially Disney for drunks. Disney sucks.

I'm aware. I'm looking at it through my office window right now. But these people are on a bachelor party; when they come back with wives I'll send them on a LGD architectural tour.

Oh of course. Why I didn't offer up any outside bourbon advice. It's great for that scene, especially a big one because there's less chance a dude ends up missing rolling that deep around town.

Didn't know we had another tmb'r here. Thought it was just the resident weirdos me and PhupaPhever that lived here. That's cool.

Heading home for a wedding the weekend after Mardi Gras. Getting there Thursday morning and family activities don't start until Friday, though my brother and his wife may come in from across the lake Thursday night to hang out since the wedding is on Friday night. My wife can't go due to work stuff, so I'm pretty pumped about having 24 hours by myself. Plan on spending all day at the WWII museum since I've never made it over there and then eating/drinking myself miserable.

They've been closing Magazine at Jackson regularly to do street work. How it keeps getting worse is beyond me. Just close the mf'er and fix it and stop annoying the shit out of everyone.

My lord, this might be the best way to describe Bourbon.

Honestly the only time I go down there is if (you guessed it) guests from out of town come in.

And it's ALWAYS so frustrating because they are fixated on Bourbon and the Quarter. And let me tell you, Uptown, Midtown is a HARD sell.

I've stayed at the Ritz, Maison Dupuy, and the Country Inn & Suites. Ritz probably not the vibe but the other 2 are really well located. Country Inn across from Ruby Slipper which is key after a night of heavy drinking.

I enjoyed my stay at the Embassy Suites, but it's kind of in a odd spot. Close to the WWII Museum and casino, FQ isn't actually that far. I actually only stayed in one with one other person so we each had a bed/pullout, but there we also had a huge balcony which was cool.

That said, after staying in a airbnb in the GD this past October, I'd probably do that more often than not, now.
