I enjoyed it. Not the greatest thing on tv (some of the plotting gives me pause) but pretty darn funny. Great casting too.
Steven Chow might have been the funniest part. When the main guy kept changing his name to Eugene Chow I couldn't stop laughing.
Finished. As a dark comedy it's just wildly entertaining. It's shot beautifully too. Spoiler The scene where Rick and Dennis try to explain the herpes for the wife's benefit killed me. And holy hell is Agathe stunning. And Chow's nurse? Cute as hell. Her scolding of Chow is great too. "I have a reputation!"
This show is amazing. Episode 8 is my favorite. "The guy with the girls name" "Are you adding stuff?" "No" "Sounds like you're adding stuff"
Watched it last weekend and really enjoyed it. Uproxx/Sepinwall says it's too quirky for its own good and that it's trying to be "John LeCarré by way of Wes Anderson." Which may be true; the show's a pretty fucking weird black comedy. I'd argue that a 10-episode TV show (season 2 comes out next month) stylized in that manner that is still funny and smart and compelling and sometimes hits the mark exactly is pretty fantastic.
Season two had some really hilarious moments (slave accordion kid, birdbath and the dimes, the fingers, leslie's relapse) but the dark moments were far darker (john and alice, john at the end of the show, the agathe-tom parallel). it was probably as absurb (the fence, the swim to be direct... the aforementioned accordion kid or the jump or the teeth/face bruising) but there wasn't as much exposition in this season and i missed that. that gave the show a nice warmth that, considering how fucking dark it can be, was needed. i hope it gets a third season. i'm glad i watched the second season and i watched it quickly. but the first season is still better imo.
In July 2019, Amazon canceled the series, saying they have no plans for a third season.[1] think I already knew this but sucks
Everyone who has not watched this yet still hasn't bolstered their spurge plinths with husk nuts or Jim-joists and I mean that in as insulting a way as possible. Just gonna bump this thread periodically to get more persons to view it.
Hello to the users who have been meaning to watch this program but still haven't. You're about to watch a cool show. I wish I looked as good in a sweater as John Lakeman
