Another reason why you shouldn't watch the movies prior to reading: You get to enjoy Dumbledore for much longer before being exposed to Michael Gambon's atrocious interpretation starting with the 3rd movie. Richard Harris was perfect in the first 2 movies though.

Giving him a lot of credit calling it an interpretation since he didn't know the source material firsthand

This is a good idea and probably what I'll do, so I can avoid any spoilers itt.

I'll come back and post a link when I start the thread.

Also lost it at Truman not knowing Emma Watson is Hermione. That's like not knowing JLaw is Katniss or that Hugh Jackman is Wolverine

Except the Azkaban and Deathly Hallows of course.

HBP isn't actually that bad if you're able to block the book out of memory. But since it's the best book, it's difficult to do.

I may be in the majority, but none of the films are bad. Some of them are fantastic and some of them are good.

All of the books are fantastic, though. I'd have to really try to come up with a complaint.

 at Truman not knowing what Emma Watson's first role was. I distinctly remember the kick in the chest when I first saw her in Azkaban and how our nerdy, big bushy-eyebrows Hermione was going to transform into a princess. :lovelove:

I would watch the first 2-3 movies when you finish the first 2-3 books...they provide a great visual reference and stick close to the source material. I enjoy the later movies but they diverge more and more from the books and the books are obviously much better.

I have an unexplainable man-crush on Mark Rylance. Guy is a badass. Just based on one trailer I love his character in Dunkirk.

He was awesome as Thomas Cromwell too.

I loved Fantastic Beasts, and I can't wait to see Dumbledore and Grindelwald :)

On Order of the Phoenix right now. At this point, it is my least favorite book, but Dumbledore really saves the whole book when he shows up at the Ministry.

I'm going to lose my shit all over again when Voldemort whispers, "Can't I?" to Harry at the Ministry. Shit gets almost too real after that point, but my body is ready.

Can't wait to read the Truman thread.

Just bought Fantastic Beasts right as I was finishing up a reread...liked the movie a lot on the first viewing, but it's absolutely incredible following a fresh rehashing of Grindelwald...these movies are going to be so good.

bringing this here so it doesn't spoil Truman in his thread, but I was thinking about this while rereading the series a couple of months ago. When Harry and Hermione go to Godric's Hollow the entire village is in church for Christmas Eve services, Dumbledore's mother and sister have a Bible verse (Matthew 6:21) on their tombstones, as do Harry and Lilly Potter (1 Corinthians 15:26). I also thought I remembered Harry putting a cross on someone's grave (Dobby's?) but couldn't find confirmation.

I found it very surprising to come across these as I figured the wizarding world would be very un-religious.

Prisoner of Azkaban is solidly my #2, but Goblit of Fire is undoubtably my #1.

I loved everything about all the different schools coming together, and the subsequent subplots. And the actual tournament was one hell of a fun read.

I mean, there is a TON of Christian allegory throughout the series. The wizarding world obviously celebrates Christianity. It isn't like the muggles killing them in the name of religion couldn't have happened. Christian sects have outcast/killed other Christian sects throughout the last 2000 years.

Also, on a lighter note... Lupin really won by marrying Tonks. She seems cool and would likely let you give appearance requests every night before bed.
