Those guys are killing it. They have surgery centers and Orthopaedic hospitals in effingham county that churn out the jernts. Chatham Ortho is also a good group in town but nowhere near as big as Optim.
5-6. Doesn't matter unless you think you aren't that strong of an applicant, in which case applying broadly can do you some favors.
GF is starting rotations in a week or two and starts with internal med. Any tips y'all can pass along?
do you file together or separately. That apparently will change what the govt uses to figure out your monthly payments. Im curious as to how that affected her amounts
We filed separately because it makes the payments substantially less. But it dq's you from being able to use Roth IRA and from getting loan interest refund. If we did it again knowing what we know now we'll file jointly probably
When you are a med student there is no such thing as scut work. Anything you can do to make the resident's job easier, making copies, getting signatures, bugging social work, illegally consenting patients etc. Also she can never ask to leave, the correct way to see if you can go home is the magic phrase "Is there anything I can be helping you with," and they'll say, "oh...no. Why don't you get outta here."
For the first few months, the nurses know more than her. It'll flip once she gets comfortable and all that schooling kicks in.
That was a great feeling. You're pretty much done with tests; Step 2 was cake unless you really need to crush it. Still much more relaxed than Step 1.
Just put in my first medicine consult for medical management. Feels even better than I thought it would
Be yourself, be interesting, see if you fit in, don't bullshit them. But do tell them you'd love to come to their school.
As cliché as it sounds, be yourself and make sure you can talk about your own strengths and weaknesses. Also, why you are interested in their program specifically. Try to explain why you want to do medicine a little more than because of your desire to "help people."
Starting year 3 of my job and I still love it. Perfect fit for me. I think organization matters as much as specialty.
Step 3 next two days. 196 or bust! Finally getting to do some bones starting next week when I get all rauma'd up. Intern year has been pretty cake thus far
US citizen graduating from med in the Philippines (family ties) in June. School calendars don't match up with the US, so haven't taken my steps yet. When should I shoot to have steps 1 and 2 complete? I have a handful of publications in ophthalmology from my research time before med school. Can that make me competitive for ophtha despite graduating abroad?
Yeah I understand the weight of step 1 vs 2. I'm trying to figure out if I can get everything I need completed in time to apply for next year's cycle or if I'll have to take a year for exams + an externship/observership/whatever you call it.
Assuming you've been to payroll then I would say the next step is downtown. All the answers are downtown.
the gf had a great interview at johns hopkins for a picu fellowship (humble brag, i think). have any of you medical nerds done a fellowship; is it 3 years of her working all the time?
Fellowships are different depending on specialty. Mine is only a year, but my residency was also longer so it evens out.
Really weird now being a preceptor for medical students. Really weird feeling. When I started posting on this board I was still in medical school. FeelsOldMan
