Larin was on his game last night. That was fun. Defense needs to work on its cohesiveness but Bendik was enough to bail their asses out.
Didn't get to see the dynamo match last night. Know the results. Good to see we fought back from an incorrect penalty given up. But just to weak in the back to see it out. Either way, our attack is legit.
If you think the penalty you gave up was incorrect then the one Portland gave up was incorrect as well.
I can't even tell if I should whine about that penalty because Fox can't manage to show a decent replay
Both were incorrect calls sucks for both teams. That ref is the same one that missed red cards against Portland last year that were given retroactively. He sucks dick, or at least does for Portland matches. Was a well matched game, Portland's halftime adjustments and home crowd made the difference. You guys look like a playoff team.
Who are the rookies making an impact in the league so far this season? Julian Gressel is a fucking stud for Atlanta
Gressell and Nick Lima are the two best looking rookies thus far. Lima was W1 Best IX and scored in Week 2 as a RB. He is an RB though, so that isn't a sexy position. Ian Harkes for DC is a rookie who is also getting minutes in an attacking role, which will give him an edge if he starts bagging goals and assist. Not sure DC has even scored a goal yet. Atlanta's attack is much better, so Gressell figures to get more space on the ball and ability to rack up assists and goals albeit from a deeper lying position so that helps him. Derrick Jones got brought up from Bethlehem Steel (Philly USL Team) and has played well through 3 games. Not sure if he counts as a rookie since he played season as a pro in USL, but is a U20. Same with Alphonso Davies for Vancover. Davies got signed to USL late last year and played a couple games with Vancover late as well. He is only 16 and a beast. Lewis and Ebobissee were with U20 and haven't been fully integrated into the team yet, but they could make some waves especially Lewis. Ebob is probably buried behind Adi, but if Adi gets injuried then Ebob could bags some goals with that attack around him.
Also strong rumors Zlatan to LAG and Iniesta to NYC in the summer transfer window. Then Chicarito to LA2 as their first DP.
Red Bull rumored to add some bench warmer from Leipzig or Salzburg on loan. Also whispers that they might be in talks for a no-name player from a crappy central American league.
Nice to see the Chicago owner start to give a shit about his club by getting Juninho, Dax, and now Bastian.
Yeah, three central mids....Don't know what they're thinking tactically but they can't be worse than last year. Also, hasn't Chicago been looking for new owners for a couple years now?
I feel like this move would annoy me if I were a Tire fan. All around the league you see teams sign lower tier named guys in the prime of their career that can take over this league, while proving you dont need big names to sell tickets. Then you go out a get Bastian at 32 years old and plan to make him your #10?
SugarShaun grabbed my tickets just now for the Riverhounds opener tomorrow. Guess I'll get the chance to see Swanson, Hollingsworth and Martinez from Columbus. Although I have no idea who will feature and who won't. However I'm really just going to watch Corey Hertzog score some goals.
Nice. Would love to hear what the crowd is like there, Pittsburgh never struck me as much of a soccer city but good turnout for Man City/Milan a few years ago so who knows
Under, missing some key cogs for Portland. Of course, 1/2 of those are defensive cogs so who knows. I'm guessing 1-1 with a goal in 65th min by Columbus to tie match and Timbers holding off a furious final 15 to get the point.
But seriously, under. Feeling like 2-4 goals. 1-1, 2-1 to either side, 2-2. Somewhere in that range depending on who finishes their chances
No. Meram would've been the only one but he made a statement about not being able to play for them right now with the political stuff Last week we changed formation though to a 3 man back line and it put Finlay on the bench
RSL/NYRB about to kickoff on UniMas. A few youngsters starting: Tyler Adams, Brooks Lennon, Sebastian Saucedo.
Columbus supporters section has prided itself on being capo free and letting cheers/songs/chants starting organically but that ends tonight. Very interested to see how it goes. The Nordecke has typically been pretty disjointed and at times weak so I'm not opposed to it
What I am opposed to is that the stadium is at the state fairgrounds and a few weeks ago they made us share parking with people doing park and ride to the Arnold (and they paid less) and tonight with the circus. Fuck that. Hate the fairgrounds
SugarShaun Hollingsworth started and played okay, nothing great and seemed lost at times to be honest. Swanson came off the bench a little before the 60th minute due to injury. I thought he played very well, really controlled the midfield when he had possession and made some good passes. I actually liked what I saw out of Swanson much more than the starting midfield. Martinez didn't play or make the bench. Crowd wasn't great and wasn't horrific. I'm not sure how the USL does attendance wise though. Stadium seats 3500-4000 and I'd say it was at worse 60% full but at times it seemed as much as 80-85% full. I wouldn't say that for an opening match at home it was all that impressive regardless. Riverhounds supporter group was pretty decent for the size of the ground and they made pretty solid noise all match rarely going quiet. A lot of kids and families for sure.
