I have a reservation made with MyCar for my trip at the end of May. My total is $268 for 4 days and I liked that I didn't have to prepay it for the best rate.
Also I'm sure you've seen already but if you can drive manual then you're looking at a much lower rate than that. Automatics are more expensive there because apparently they're not as common
Is the 268 for an automatic or manual? The cheapest prices from keflavik are anywhere from $100-150 for two days for a tiny little manual car.
My reservation is for an automatic Toyota Yaris. All their cars are very new Toyotas and include theft protection, gravel protection (was told this one is key), and CDW along with an additional driver. These are add ons from what I could find most other places. www.mycar.is
Looking at traveling to Spain with my wife this September; probably three nights in Madrid, one night trip to Granada, and then two more nights in Barcelona. Looks like a few people have been - any recommendations?
I have been to Barcelona. Sagrada Familia and Park Guell are can't miss spots. Sagrada Familia is absolutely amazing. Make sure to buy your ticket online beforehand because the line gets really long. Camp Nou is pretty cool if you are into soccer; the tour takes you all over the stadium and there's a nice museum too. The monastery at Monsearatt is sweet, but it takes a whole day since you have to take a train out there so if you're short on time you might want to skip it. The Picasso Museum has some spectacular art. Also, take some time to just walk up and down Las Ramblas, it's touristy as fuck but there's good food and it's a fun environment. I don't really recall eating anywhere spectacular, but ask some locals where they go for Paellas and go there. Just don't eat anywhere immediately next to any of the main tourist spots. Miscellaneous shit watch out for pickpockets, my uncle got his wallet taken on the subway. Also, the vast majority of people are incredibly friendly but a few got really mad when I talked to them in Spanish; they would only speak English or Catalan. I'm going to Madrid in May so I will post some stuff about that this summer.
Awesome, thank you. We're hoping to see a match in Madrid (Real or Atletico; hopefully one of them is home the weekend we are there) and hoping I can swing a trip to the Nou Camp museum. Gaudi architecture is definitely high on the list as well.
Booked for September. Flying into Bergen, Norway and out of Dublin 11 days later. Time to fill in the middle, most likely Scotland and England. Looking for a good hike somewhere along the way. Debating if we should rent a car at any point or stick to train, bus, plane, etc.
Hoi An is pretty cool, really touristy/caters to backpackers, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. But it's famous for their high quality, cheap tailored suits. Just got fitted for 3 suits, 2 jackets, and 4 shirts, all custom tailored, for less than $900. Upgrading the wardrobe.
We used Sixt. Had no issues except for a speeding ticket. Lol. Got a little 4x4 SUV similar in size to a Ford Edge.
Yea, will be the 3rd fucking package I've shipped home. Got some nice stone/ivory/whatever it is from the Taj, and some huge Chinese masks and murals from Nepal. I guess still better than lugging it around the whole time.
€5 bottles of chianti at the hostel bar made for a tough morning. However, I got up, showered, dressed and walked 35 minutes across town to catch the van for my Tuscan wine tour. It was then that I found out my tour was scheduled for Tuesday, not Monday. Oh well.
jumped on an AA sale and picked up flights to Paris for $431 Sept 29 - Oct 6 taking recommendations on anything and everything. deciding on hotel rn. I have status and points with Marriott and could do Hyatt with some vouchers I have
Starting a 3 day trek through Colca Canyon tomorrow. These Peruvians love making you wake up at 2:30 to start your tours. Spoiler
Sitting in a priority pass lounge waiting to leave thailand. All in all, besides about 18 mishaps that nearly ruined a trio, country is pretty dope. People are all really nice. Overall it's really cheap. We need tuk tuks in places like new Orleans. One "adventure" I didn't post about....about 5 min before we leave on a speed boat day trip around three phi phi islands, wife is missing phone. Left it on table at restaurant. Where is the retaurant? Like a half a mile away. 90* already and estimated 4000% humidity. Ran bare foot to restaurant, they held the phone, then ran back and jumped in boat as it was pulling away from the beach. God damn wife. I'd rearrange my trip and try to group days in Bangkok vs a day in the front and end. We didn't really get to enjoy and explore the wild ass city that it is. Kinda disappointed. Went to Asiatique Market night 1, but not much else as we had a early flight the next day. Last night didn't do shit after little sleep from after a late night on Phi Phi and a long travel day. Going to the 2nd hospital of thr night last night (1st one was a bit scarry) and our uber driver dropped us off down an alley from the Silom red light district instead of in front of the hospital. Dick fucker. Wasn't mentally prepared for that. Interesting non the less.
I think my big trip next year will be Africa. Start a new job in mid-May, so need to earn some goodwill for a bit before taking a few weeks. Batting around a small trip Spain for NYE, then a few weeks in Africa for fall 2018. Obviously want to eventually do South Africa, but saving that for its own trip. Want to the mainland---Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia. Really want to see the Congo but I realize how dangerous it can be. Need to do some homework.
My feet were tore the fuck up. I have numerous blisters. Probably Rio and Buenos Aires. Over Thanksgiving probably. Would really like to do Uruguay and their beaches but not enough time
We just visited Paris. Incredible city. Lives up to the hype. Lucked out on phenomenal weather w/ no clouds, all sun, 70 degree temps. Stayed at Hotel Therese in 2nd Arrondissement. We like to walk most of the city so wanted a central point. That entire section between Palais Royal and the Marais looked to have tons of good hotels. Our favorite neighborhoods were St Germain and the Latin Quarter. Favorite things we did: make reservations for a restaurant called Le Perchoir. Its in the 11th Arrondissement. You need the reservation to bypass the line for the bar....But skip the restaurant and go up a floor to their rooftop bar. Its basically only parisiens. Grade A cocktails, music, atmosphere, etc. They have a pseudo food truck thing selling really good food and charcuterie. Get there before sunset. Spoiler go shop the markets along Rue Mouffetard. The shop owners will hook you up with a Bottle of Wine (uncork it for you and give cups), cheese selection, and baguettes. All at separate shops. Then take that haul and set up shop at Jardin Luxembourg. Just phenomenal. Spoiler Spoiler there are countless solid bakeries, pastry shops, cheese and wine vendors around St Germain. My favorite bakery was Gerard Mulot - croissants for breakfast. Also go to an oyster/seafood shop. They just deliver absurd amounts of food on towers. We went to Huitrerie Regis. Phenomenal spread and also very parisien. Or you could try Le Dome. Heard that was solid as well. Spoiler our first night we went to a cool underground bar called Lockwoods (we got in too late for their dinner). Played basically all 60s/70s rock. But, and I will have to rummage through my suitcase to find the name, the best part is we went with bartenders to some late service restaurant where all the bar/restaurant industry ppl go. Very very french but incredible food at this place. Edit ^^^^ this place ^^^^ is called Chez Denise http://parisbymouth.com/our-guide-to-paris-la-tour-de-montlhery-chez-denise/
Sigh. Flight out of China to LAX is 1.5 hours late. Gonna be a tight connection especially with customs/checked bags etc....
The Phi Phi Islands were really cool. Beaches were pretty chill. Couple you could take an easy long boat to, some you could hike to. The town was pretty solid. Mix of bars, restaurants and markets all jammed into a smallish area. Only went one night bc we were tired from beaches and old, but was a good chill party scene around. Koh Phi Leh was really awesome. Did a speed boat tour around Phi Phi, saw monkeys which dumbass tourists were petting. I stood way back bc rabies. Snorkeled at 3 spots, one was Shark point that has black tip reef sharks. Didn't see any . Stopped at a few outter Islands and ended the day at Koh Phi Leh where The Beach was filmed. Real sick. 2 or 300 foot vertical cliffs and a big Bay (Maya Bay) on one side, big Blue Lagoon in another cove and a few smaller beaches. Just real pretty and picturesque.
Is Jax Teller updating the OP with these write-ups because one day* I am going to need all of this info. *"one day" being when I am not a poor
Student loans and bad credit card decisions in grad school killing my credit score. CC companies would just send back a sticky note saying "lol" if I applied for any good rewards CCs.
For those of you who have been to Munich/Germany which of these day trips should my girlfriend and I do? We're going in September and are are trying to decide which two places to go. - Salzburg - Neuschwanstein - Nuremburg - Berchtesgaden/Eagles Nest - Rothenburg
Guy who I flew back next to was from LA and flew to BKK for under 500. Think he was there fucking thai women.
I'm staying at the Park Hyatt with the 2 free nights from the Hyatt Chase card. Leaving on May 24th You traveling around at all or just Paris?
We met people from all over the world that had Thai 'wives' for a week or so at the beach. It was weird, there was this Swedish guy talking shit about this American dudes 'wife' about how it wasn't his real wife and she was a prostitute he was paying. Next day the motherfucker had one of his own You also see tons of middle aged white dudes dressed in business casual at the brothels on soi cowboy
Yeah we got upgraded to premium, right after 1st class, to Bangkok and there were 2 or 3 random 60 y/o white guys talking about their thai girlfriends and how Trump is messing up the marriage visa rules. Was kinda gross tho
I know Thailand gets lots of love around here (and I really enjoyed it), but South Africa and New Zealand are definitely a tier above in my book. I think Uganda to see the mountain gorillas would be an awesome trip.
Chinese folk have zero sense of their surroundings. Screaming constantly, blasting videos and talking loud as fuck on speak phones. They were up walking around the cabin as the plane was taxiing....just a different culture. Pretty wild and annoying too
I did neuschwanstein, Berchtesgaden, and Dachau. I recommend all three. Also look up zugspitze and Oberammergau. Konigsee was a pretty neat town too.
Sounds like my flight back from Hong Kong. We left late because the massive tour group on the flight kept switching seats and wouldn't stay seated. After takeoff they then kept yelling at each other across the plane to have full discussions about how to piss off the Americans, I'm sure. They also kept their lights on to piss everyone off too. I hate every last one of the people in that tour group.
Sitting in day two of three days of meetings thinking about how I'll be in Croatia in three weeks. Can't get here quick enough
And now a nice musky Arabian man has decided to sit next to me and play techno from his phone. These lounges need a headphone music only rule. This
Did Salzburg last year for the sole reason that my wife loves sound of music and just "had" to do a tour if we were going to be in that part of the world. City is pretty cool though, the fortress is pretty dope. The sound of music tour was actually pretty interesting and had a ton of bad ass scenery. Here's some shots I got: Spoiler At the fortress On the SOM tour
