I see a lot of recipes for greek yogurt dips that sound great. Someone guide me in the right direction before I waste $50 of greek yogurt trying all of them out.
Tzatziki is the king of greek yogurt dips. Lots of recipes out there, but the gist is greek yogurt, olive oil, grated or diced cucumber, minced garlic, acid (either vinegar or lemon juice), and herb, preferably fresh (usually some combo of dill, mint, and/or oregano. Salt and pepper to taste, maybe a touch of cayenne, too. Great as a dip for chips or pita, on a Mediterranean-style sandwich, topping fresh veggies, and even as a condiment to something like grilled or sauteed chicken. Unless there is a better product out there, Fage 0% fat plain greek yogurt has the best macros: one cup is 130 calories, 0g fat, 9g carbs, and 23g protein. I usually just have one cup of that yogurt mixed with a tablespoon of honey daily at lunch. It's pricier than most greek yogurt, but it's worth it.
I cannot get the large containers where I am, only the 150g single serving cups. Otherwise, I would probably do that.
Speak to me about quinoa in respect to how to prepare it and what to eat with it. I own a rice maker.
Two parts liquid to one quinoa. Has zero flavor imo, so that's where it can get unhealthy. I used water shallots salt and pepper. Eat it with anything.
Not an expert but I think you can buy steam bags of quinoa. Replace any dish with rice with quinoa. Disclaimer I eat brown rice 90% of the time.
It's not horrible I just think like as with most any grain it needs seasoning. Not starchy like rice.
last time i made red quinoa it was "gritty" like when you're eating a poorly shucked oyster. i know the quinoa was cooked all the way it wasn't like raw pebbles just there were some pieces of something in there that were chip-a-tooth kinda things. i threw it away after the first serving
I mix it with roasted butternut squash, avocado, some chopped walnuts, greens and some lemon juice. Pretty tasty side with some grilled chicken breast for lunch
gotta rinse the fuck out of it before cooking it. use cold water and rinse for 2-3 minutes. non-organic quinoa comes covered in a nasty pesticide that needs to be rinsed off. for organic quinoa, you don't need to worry about the pesticide, but you'll want to rise off all the dirt and dust before cooking. i cook mine in my homemade broths (beef, chicken, veggie), or use coconut milk like George Costanza says
Lemon juice, spicy mustard, olive oil. Whip it into a thick sauce. Toss the quinoa in that. Throw in dried fruit and nuts. Serve over a bed of spinach.
Someone has got to start a carb free healthy living thread y'all making me hungry. I went full keto on Feb 1 and haven't cheated once. I think that was the key the first week because by about day 5 I didn't crave pasta/cake/sweets/bread at all. Don't get me wrong when my wife throws a bag of fries in the table and starts eating I'm like "man, those used to be good" but I look at what I actually can eat and I'm more than happy. Down almost 30 pounds since then and my big three lifts have all stayed the same. I do not count calories or macros except for carbs...I keep it under 20 every single day. I eat until I'm satisfied and stop. I find that I do not overeat with keto because my body sends a full signal when I'm nourished rather than the dopamine from carbs and sweets sending a false hungry signal to my brain so I eat until I puke. This worked for me and I'm just sharing my experience. You might die or be twice as quick at meeting your goals. Idk.
Starting Whole 30 tomorrow (diet starts Monday). Plan on that for a month then starting a Paleo type meal plan. Concerned about no pre-workout and no whey protein.
Good luck. If tramp could manage with his insane cycling shit I think you'll get your protein in. Definitely will be an adjustment though.
Activity ITT inspired me to whip up some tzatziki and grill a ton of Greek marinated and seasoned boneless skinless chicken thighs (thanks in part to seasoning BlazingRebel got me for TMB SS). Dinner tonight and lunch for a few days during the week. Tzatziki is just so damn good.
Made these quinoa kale cakes and some pesto. They are pretty darn good http://everydaydishes.com/simple-food-recipes/healthy-kale-quinoa-patties-recipe/
I'm doing it again in May. It's not that hard to replace the protein. Stick to black coffee or green tea for your pre workout. Make egg muffins for on the go or protein needs during the day as a snack. The no sugar definitely sucks though, may not gain as much muscle mass when you're doing it but won't lose too much. I love the habit forming of Whole30. It lasts and great going into summer
If you're willing to bend the rules and still use powdered whey, I'd recommend Promix unflavored. It's grass-fed protein, minimally processed, and unflavored and unsweetened. It tastes like skim milk when you drink it.
https://truenutrition.com/p-1115-pea-protein-isolate-non-gmo-1lb.aspx srs Might need to get some lysine and add it in there if it gives you the shits. HTH
You serious? I don't know how. I think most of it is in my head but I don't feel like I'm getting near enough calories. You mind laying out a typical days worth of food for you on your whole 30?
Breakfast: 2 over easy eggs fried in ghee or coconut oil, 4 pieces of bacon or small breakfast sausages, 1/2 avocado, 1 cup oj and 4 shots espresso Lunch: 4 hard boild eggs with hot sauce, 2 bananas, baby carrots Dinner: pork chop or grilled chicken or salmon, mashed potatoes, steamed brocolli
Quinoa, grilled chicken, olive oil, italian dressing, granulated garlic, chickpeas, artichokes, Parmesan key really is to boil it in broth
I lost 13 my first time and had a similar problem to yours. For the first 7-10 days I ate about a pound of baby carrots to feel "not starving". Then my body adjusted and I was on a better clock.
